Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[Finnian looked a little happy for a moment, he's never really seen magic to when someone offers to show him some, he was a little excited.]

I would like that very much. I do admit though staying on the ship with people can be fun to. [But staying at home was always something he did at home except for the odd occasion where he didn't need to do his real job.]

mitsuzaki yosuga (deadman wonderland)

A: Yosuga has never been good at these sort of things. Even if she's supposed to have wonderful self-confidence. (she frowns at her feet and squats in the sand of the island, pushing her toy gun into the warm surface. well. she's definitely stranded here on this island with nobody else in sight. a sea navigation gone completely wrong on her end. she should have never set out alone.)

B: (there are small grunting sounds coming from behind a tall tree, followed by the noises of fussing leaves and vegetation. when you look closer, there's yosuga, her pigtails caught up and tangled in some branches she'd been climbing through.) Yosuga...can definitely get out of this one. She definitely can...

C: (yosuga has just arrived and boy are her jimmies all rustled. she's in the town center as to be expected, her head whipping back and forth as though she's searching desperately for something specifically. when she catches the stranger's eye she makes no hesitation in going up to them.) Excuse me. Yosuga is looking for somebody.

[Shishio looks her over for a moment, trying to assess her at a glance. She didn't seem dangerous, but he was sure that she wasn't helpless, either. He chews on an apple taken from the nearby market.]

And why should this matter to me?

It shouldn't. But it's important to Yosuga, so she would appreciate the help. She would look by herself, but she just got here. (as in she just woke up. of course she was confused, startled-- whatever negative emotion bubbles up through waking up in a foreign world, but that wasn't her main priority.)

His name is Sakigami Toto. Maybe 'Mockingbird'.

As I've just arrived myself, you can hardly expect me to know anyone here. Rest assured, I've never heard of such people.

Yosuga can't stay here, then. She has to...she has to get a ship. And money. And... (she pauses, looks away, and then back at the stranger.)

She needs to find the treasure so she can get back home. If she doesn't find Toto, she can't finish what was started.

That's a rather single-minded pursuit. WEhat possible meaning does this person have to you? Are they really that essential?

Yes. Yosuga is Toto's big sister. (or so their delusional world says. they aren't related by blood. IT'S COMPLICATED...)

You don't have anyone you need to find?

I find the idea of being too reliant on others bothersome.

Even if they're all that you have?

[There is a Mermaid in a fountain. A very shocked and startled one. A fish out of water no less. She flaps her fin in the dry water fountain and moves, pulling herself behind it, not that there is a behind when it comes to a thing like this. Like...]

[What IS this?]

[Her green fin flapped, her hands grasped the stone of this thing and she pulled herself up into a sitting position, peeking past a tier of the stone pillar, staring out at the people. Humans! Oh gosh... that’s not good.]

[She was just fighting with her father too! But her father is SO going to KILL her if he finds out. She’s not even sure THIS is her fault!]

[You’ve got a mermaid on your ship. A curious one. She’s curled her fin under her, leaning over the railing. What a strange sight it was to see the ocean from THIS view. How curious! She wants to go swimming, but she wants to go talking to you humans, and other people, as well.]

[Looking sneaky, peeking over her shoulder, she’s spying around to see who might BE around. No fear right now. She just wants to talk.]

[Under the sea! Under the Seeeea! Darling it’s better down where it’s we--wait. Well, maybe not BETTER, but this water IS different. The crew she’s sailing with is exploring an island. Ariel? She’s exploring the ocean around it. Swimming in the deep to see what else might be found down here.]

[Well, that's...interesting. Fish-lady. That's pretty cool. Gene takes a sip of his beer before addressing her.]

You...do realize there's no water in the fountain, right? I don't think it'll get a refill anytime soon, either. Even if it did, you'd be waiting for hours. Seriously, the ocean isn't far from here.

[Oh, because she dragged herself out of the ocean on her own and plopped herself in a dry patch of stone in the middle of... Land!]

[Shhh, she was a little panicked. A human saw her! Trying to round in the dry fountain and hide behind the stone more she peeked out at him, holding her breath a moment. It's a human... talking to her.]

[Bright blue eyes peered out at him, questioning.] I... I didn't put myself here. [she said, timid at first. Oh yes, her father was going to kill her. Talking to humans...]

I don't doubt that. We tend to have that problem. I ended up here the same way...minus the fish tail.

[We? Did he mean humans? Why would humans have that problem? They live on land, don’t they? OH! But he said he ended up here the same way! But he had legs!]

[Her curiosity was grabbed, making her move, pushing herself over to the edge of the dry fountain, hands grabbing the edge of the ledge and pulling herself closer, looking]

You lost your fin? But how!? Was it the sea witch? [Look, she had just been headed over there actually... and he SAID he had ended up here without a fin...]

[caster_blaster]

Whoa, whoa! Take it easy, you're gonna' scrape yourself up, moving around like that.

[He looks around for a moment, scratching his chin as he tries to come up with a solution. After a quick jaunt, he snatches up some linens from a nearby laundry line.]

Alright, raise yourself up a bit. I'm gonna' use these sheets to put something between you and the ground.

[Huh? She hadn’t even really noticed. Her fin wasn’t made of paper after all. it flapped as she looked back to it, then back to him. Her arms pushed up, lifting herself up to sit on the edge of the fountain as he walked off. Why didn’t he have his fin? He said he showed up without one.]

[And there were other humans around, in the distance. She leaned a bit over, peeking around at them. She raised a hand to wave at a woman, who ducked her head and walked the other way. Her hand drew back, surprised, and frowning.]

[When the other came back with the cloth she looked up at him, curious, but letting him help with the sheet? It was soft. Not at all like sailing canvas that she finds under the sea.]

[He moved slowly, careful to show he meant no harm. He cut a few holes in the sheet, forming it into a make-shift poncho of sorts, that draped over her head and trial over most of her body and tail. He shortened up the end to make sure too much didn't trail behind her.]

Just push your arms through these holes. I don't know if mermaids need to stay moist, but if you soak this it'll keep you wet longer.

[He sat down besides her when he was finished, trying to think up something else.]

Well, it's functional, but not very flattering attire. What you need is some sort of fish-tank on wheels, or something.

[She looks so very confused as he pulls this over her. The girl is far too trusting. When he says to put her arms through the holes, she does, looking down at it confused like. Human clothing? How interesting!]

[She ran her hands down her sides, looking the clothing over. So baggy!]

Flattering? It’s lovely! [wait, blink blink] A... fish tank? Wheels? [her tail flapped again, hitting the ground hard and looking around] Do you keep fish in tanks and wheels?

Well, no. We do keep 'em in water-filled tanks, but the wheels are because you need to get around. You won't be moving too fast on a fish tail.
