Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[it wasn't a trick. Just an assumption. Either way, boo. That's okay though]

No. We can ask Sanji. [which meant they'd have to go back to the ship which meant Law was effectively kidnapped. Not that that wasn't a foregone conclusion anyway. He tries to think if he remembers the name...]

Mmm. Davey Jones I think. Does it matter? Do you know him?

Aragaki-kun! Pleasure to meet you. ((He gives a salute, which - as he spins around - turns into a gesture towards port.)) Our ship is docked over there.

((He's about to run off when he hesitates and turns back to Aragaki.)) And, uh. I guess. If you were... with someone from your world or something, I guess I should let you know. They won't know you're gone. The people back home, I mean.

Starving. Thanks.

[Free food. ... Law's even sure to mind his manners here, because if the guy's giving out lunch, he might be further helpful, and that can only improve his situation.

Then he points up.]

A pirate from up there? At least that's what I think that's what you're saying, right?

[Which is somewhat of an appealing (if foolishly romantic) thought. It would be interesting to sail a sea of stars. If that's what he's taking about, anyway, when he means space.]

Not really. I've fought plenty of space pirates, though. Outlaws are more like...in-betweeners, I guess. See, out there, there's really only three roads to take.

[He marks them off on his fingers.]

You're either working under umbrella of the Federation, which governs the "civilized" areas, you're with the space pirate guilds, or you're an outlaw. We don't owe allegiance to anyone but our ship and those on it. Outlaws do what it takes to get by and we end up with enemies, but I like it better than answering to someone.

I'm Gene Starwind, and I'm the Captain of the Outlaw Star...Not that I can show you, considering it's orbiting a world that's probably a long way from here.

Kidnapping, huh? B| Oi, oi... there will be no kidnapping here. Law goes where he pleases, thank you very much. That said he'll hang around, for now, because you're damn good at being in the right place at the right time and he's secretely fond of you and your crew SHUT UP and there's the D. The D always brings the storm and he wonders what that will mean here.

This is so bizarre...no way they could have pulled this off in one day...

[She (or he if you feel like it) is wandering around the Town Square, mostly without any caution to her person. She (he) seems to think that all this is staged, as Haruhi keeps making abundantly clear by poking and prodding at things and generally marveling at quite benign objects. Like the fountain! It's very detailed!]

[In the center of the town square, Coby's eyes darted around as he looked for someone familiar.

He was right in the middle of giving his men a briefing about their next patrol. Coby, his hands raised in the air in vain, looked around with a baffled expression after he got up.]

What am I... Was that a black-out!?

This is odd. Had I been dreaming? [He paused, recalling everything vividly.]

...About my patrol, none the less?

[JUST ANOTHER DAY ON THE SEA]
[Though Coby loathed the idea of being a pirate, he was a practical person. He went to work, doing as much as he could to keep the ship in top shape and the decks clear so people could move. Not a moment was spent relaxing, because he didn't want to be considered a pirate. No--pirates relaxed and slept off the day and he was a member of the Navy.

He'd work every hour of the day if he could look much more the part of a sailor. He could be found just about anywhere on deck, doing just about any chore. It was just his means of coping with that one little issue of his.]

No, just Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, Robin and Brook. [he folds his arms behind his head]

... Zoro-ya? [Frown. You. You were alive last time he saw you. (Also. Mad props from him for getting his name right.)] If this is not death, what is all this?

Hm. [Archer made a face, surprised that he actually heard that sort of answer. Given what he just read and on the fountain, he was certain a place like the one he was in hadn't eaten him up yet, bones and all.]

I commend you for your fortitude. And, no, I don't mean that. Forget it, you don't need to worry about strange questions.

[Hearing that, Ania can't help but chuckle. She steps out of the alley where she'd been people watching, boots clicking on the cobblestones. Eyeing the speaker up and down, she wonders who told him that hat was a good idea.]

Heh, that's because it's not hell. D'you think hell would have shops?

They're blaming it on Davy Jones, but it's not like anything I've heard he can do.

The Davy Back games are named after him, right.

[Okay, not totally ignorant, alright.]

Davy Jones is the keeper of the Locker, Mister Strawhat. It's where the souls of dead sailors go if they don't make it to heaven or hell. They say a lot of things - he commands a number of evil spirits of the sea, he has many wierd and mystic abilities, and so on. Most everyone at home considers him a legend unless you're really superstitious.

Hearing he's real is... something...

[Turning. Hello there stranger from the alley. He guesses you've heard this before?]

Yeah he's kind of annoying. I'm gonna kick his ass. [picks his nose] Wanna help?

[She meanders a bit closer and offers him a nod.]

The book has some explanations, leads me to believe that we're not dead, at the very least. Just...not where we're supposed to be. Blown off course in a bad jump or something. The whole thing's a bit weird, but believable enough.

Well, as believable as mystic pirate land can be, anyway.

I see. [Thoughtful.] That sounds kinda like how it works back home, though we have no guilds. Though more... organized crime syndicate type organizations under the Yonkou.

[He's going to find a crate to sit on and nibble his takoyaki.] Trafalgar Law. Captain of the Heart Pirates. At least back home, anyway...

[Which means... no, it means the same thing, even if he's dead. He's still what he is. It hasn't changed.]

A pirate. I see.

[His hand twitches at his side for the moment. There are no happy go lucky pirates in his sector of the galaxy. Not that he's ever met. The pirate guilds are an organized, efficient horde of killers.]

Now by pirate, I assume we mean the same thing. Thieves and murderers who waylay anyone unlucky enough to be in their line of sight.

[Hm. Might as well. Apparantly there's a ruby that grants wishes that everyone wants to hunt down. Strawhat's crew would probably be the best at that and hanging around probably would be beneficial.]

I don't have anything better to do, so sure. We can work together.

[By the way, this doesn't mean you're his captain, you know.

This is an alliance.]

[At least there's that. He breathes out in a snort. He'd agree with you there. This is rather major stuff and the stories don't go like this back home.]

The guy actually here? He's a myth or so I've heard.

In my case... [And he stops right there and leaves that sentence in the dust. It's probably not hard to cotton on to what he was going to say, though.] Well mystic pirate land is a hop and a skip away from what my own home is like, so I have no problems there. It's just jarring.

I think I have a more broad defination of that. A pirate is anyone my world's government considers an outlaw and sails the sea. And since my world's pretty much all ocean...

[His eyes fall on those twitching hands. Might be having problems soon. Alright...]

Yes, there are pirates who do what you just described. But then there are ones who like to do things rescue children. We come in all walks.

Is that so? [Ania snorts in amusement, her lip curling into a grin. Mystic pirates, new worlds and hyperspace accidents? Yeah, this was definitely going to be a weird day.] So you're actually familiar with sailing around looking for treasure? That explains the fashion choices, at least. Also why you don't look quite so freaked out.
