Sydni Surana is a Grey Warden Mage who is a lot better in a swordfight than most would give any mage credit for. But he's had mystical ghost training, so he's kind of special in that super-snowflake-mary-sue way because PROTAGONIST. He is not, however, chosen by destiny as DA:O makes it very clear that half a dozen other people could easily have taken up the same role he did if only Lady Luck had been less kind to him.

He's not super egotistical, but he can be a right ass about things. He makes up for this by being useful! Also, he might be looking to get his own ship and captain it because he's used to leading a literal army at this point... but he'll be open to joining an established crew if they seem competent and like they have goals.

He does come with a small ego.
