Welcome to our first Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where players can test out their characters' voices, try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

That's strange, everything sounds right to me.

Only right part's the geography. We don't speak French 'n we're not isolated. World's melting pot 'n all.

Now that sounds more like Canada than the Union, though I'm sure some people would say the Empire's a bit like a melting pot too.

[Ash tries not to stare too obviously. She'd swear she's seen this person before, she's just trying to remember where.]

If I knew, I wouldn't just be standing here.

And yet, I am forever amused by him XD

[Sure you did, kid, sure you did. Just keep telling yourself that.]

You're a hazard to us all. Is that clear enough?

[He's still enough of a jerk to want to laugh at the boy's face right now. Seriously, he looks even more like a pampered wet dog than before if that were even possible.]

If you can't sail, you can't swim, and you can't rationalize your own safety, then its a wonder you've survived even this far. [Amused, and after a thought] You're... not a fire-type specialist, are you? [If so it would explain a few things.]

[Ash walks alongside, keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings.]

Things are kind of complicated right now. But until lately, it was mostly groundside postings. Working on colony defenses, that kind of thing.

... I swear I responded to this. How strange o.O;

Link? There's a name one didn't hear often, though it came as no surprise given how out of place his companion appeared to be.

"A pleasure it is then. I'm Archie." The man said as he held out his hand for handshake.

Stocking up seemed like a smart idea and Archie had a few empty containers to fill. Munching on the fish for a bit, he made up his mind how to go about this.

"Water would be good, food would be too. I see you're quite skilled in fishing, but can you hunt? We'll be needing some supplies in having another mouth to feed." Of course, he could go by himself since he had to head to the stream anyway, but a bit of exploration of the place and getting to learn more of what his new friend was capable of would be nice.

[Rather than being offended, Izaya's eyes light up with unadulterated amusement. That's humans for you: always interesting... presuming rubber boy still counts as human, of course. For now, Izaya will give him the benefit of the doubt. It's a such a typically human thing to do, after all, complaining about the little things when surely rubber boy's own crimes are far worse than Izaya's... well, as far as rubber boy knows, anyway.

Hypocrisy is one of Izaya's favorite things to deconstruct. After all, the bigger hypocrites people are, the more they care.]

That's a pretty rude thing to say to someone who just saved your life.

Hmm... I'll leave the cooking experiments to you, then.

[Izaya has neither the skill nor the inclination. The more time he spends cutting up the lizard, the less hungry he becomes. It really is back to the caveman days... The lack of technology is bad enough; the lack of convenience stores is an outrage.]

This is just about done... Do you happen to have a lighter, or are we supposed to rub sticks together until we drop?

[He's not childishly whining. He's not childishly whining at all.

All right, he's totally childishly whining. And he really shouldn't show Akabayashi even this much weakness, but he's underfed and slightly dehydrated, not to mention just plain done with being stuck in this world. Even that boring little town he first woke up in seems interesting, compared to this island.]

[Izaya chuckles at that, and throws his coconut into the air just a little before catching it again.]

I see! That does seem like a step up from little green men. Unless the stories about them experimenting on humans are true, I suppose...

What Empire?

[Below decks is a very bad place to be for someone who still gets seasick, even after a few weeks on the ocean. Above decks is a lot more preferable, with the added bonus of the open air making the thoughts on the ship seem a little less claustrophobic. The Larrikin Deuce doesn't usually take on this many people, but they were shipwrecked and Skulduggery had grumblingly bowed to necessity.

[As withdrawn as Sefton is physically, that's how much his mind broadcasts. Not fear, exactly, but anxiety at the state of being stuck on a ship. Which would be why he had taken up position in the crow's nest. Now Descry's seen to everyone else. He's spent enough time over the past few days absorbing Sefton's fears.

[The mug of what smells remarkably like hot chocolate, with a tinge of honey, is set quietly on the table a good couple of feet away from Sefton's elbow.]

This will warm you up better, for when you go back upstairs.

[polarization]

[ Sefton glances over at the mug, his nose already picking up faint traces of the sweet smell over the terribly-salty atmosphere of the ship. He can't help but perk up slightly when it hits him, though he tries to hide it. His mind is less sheltered, if only because the teenager doesn't know he needs to hide his true thoughts from anyone but himself. ]

Where'd you get that?

[Descry smiles, the sort of smile more visibly seen in the crinkle around his eyes than anything else.]

I found an island with chocolate trees. I prefer tea with honey, myself, but most people will trade a lot for chocolate. And most of those, I've noticed, are teens.

[He leans back against the bulkhead rather than sitting. One, there isn't a whole lot of room. Two, leaning implies he might leave at any moment, which will only help settle Sefton's mind.]

So I've seen to everyone else, and it's your turn now. Where are you headed?

[polarization]

[ Sefton watches the mug for a moment before deciding to pull it over and give it a stronger sniff once he's satisfied that Descry is settled in enough that he won't reach for Sefton. It isn't something outright noticed, but peripherally approved of that it looks like the redhead won't be staying very long. ]

Same place's everybody else. [ He mumbles into the mug as he takes a tentative sip. Homemade chocolate straight from the tree, huh? ] We're on a ship together.

[Bear in mind, Sefton, that when Descry says 'chocolate trees' he is not actually talking about cocoa, but actual real chocolate trees. You're technically drinking bark. Chocolate-tree bark, but still.]

Everybody else is going to various and sundry islands to find new ships for themselves or meet up with friends who already have ships. Some of which we're having trouble actually marking on the map, but I'm sure we'll get there in the end.

[Once Descry has been able to sit down, meditate on their thoughts and plot a backtracking course for Skulduggery, anyway.]

[Sefton, what rock have you been hiding under, seriously.]

[ That's too weird. Everything about this place is weird. Don't tell him that, silly, he'll just stare at you. ]

So... same place's everyone else. Various 'n sundry islands.

[polarization]

[ He's kind of been doing the opposite, actually. ]

... Y'mean the United Kingdom?

[jawsthatbite]

[Jabberwock seriously facepalms because really?]

No, I mean the entire empire, not just Great Britain.

[Hence him not saying it out loud. Descry's eyes crinkle further with unvoiced humour.]

Any one of them in particular, or should we just roll a pair of dice across the map?

S' not just Britain. It's got other territories 'n Ireland 'n stuff.
