Test Drive for September 2013 Apps

Welcome to our first Test Drive for

high_seas! Here is where players can test out their characters' voices, try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

[He understood the meaning, it was just that the way he was planning was probably far less painful then what Kaname had to offer. He was still a creature, he had a fear response, he couldn't help that.]

If you're asking when I died, it was just over three weeks ago.

[He closed his eyes and sighed.]

My life has no meaning. I died already. I don't know what you know about Shiki...so how can I tell you I'm different? I'm...I don't know where to start.

Despite the laughter, there was something in his tone that said Link knew this from experience. Still, it wasn't his place to go prying when they'd only just met. Archie agreed to looking around and followed to the recently made path. The sunlight still streamed through the canopy of the trees and there was sounds of the wildlife calling from within. No tall grass though, so best to stay on their guard for anything. He took one of the pokeballs from his belt, and brought it close to his lips with a whisper.

"Come on, girl, let's do this." He gives it a toss as a dim flash of light emits from the capsule in a beam taking the form of a large dog-like creature on the ground. The Mightyena looked around for the battle first, then turned to her trainer with a tail wag as she awaited orders. "This here is Link, and he's going hunting with us, so you better play nice." Strangely, the dog actually seemed to understand this as she went up to the stranger timidly sniffing at him.

That recent...

[Kaname said softly.]

[Not wanting to sound like a Myna bird, Kaname refrained from repeating the word right after Yuuki but he didn't know what Shiki was in reference to either. The word itself had several meanings.. this was getting a bit tiresome. It could even be a combination like "shi" as in death and "ki" as in spirit...]

From the beginning. All of us have been brought here from various locations. While there are similarities- there are also differences. There may be equivalents of the shiki or jinrou in my world.. however those words are not how we refer to them.

If the two are interconnected then please enlighten me.

All I know of your kind so far is from observing you. You're unable to enter without being invited... you don't require blood as sustenance, and you weren't always like this. That combined with the fact that you don't have a human's scent gives me very little to go on. [He admitted. The fact that Yuuki "had died before".. was the most troubling fact but he could be some other creature altogether. Though Yuuki hadn't been surprised when blood had been brought up... he just could find the practice of drinking blood distasteful. Not uncommon for new creatures of the night..]

There is some lore where I'm from about certain creatures not being able to enter when they are not invited but it's only a story... or so I thought.

It's too late to regret it now, either way. I'm here, now. Whether I want to be or not.

[Natsuno looked thoughtful, trying to decide his options. It seemed just as likely that he would have to answer. It was Shiki as in corpse demon, although he didn't know the girl who had named them that.]

Shiki are the demons that have ruined the village. They prey on the humans by sucking their blood over a course of days until they die, trying to get as many of them to become the Risen as possible. They cannot go out in the sunlight, they require blood to live...

[He seemed to be remembering something, eyes clouded in sadness.]

He said it was a hunger I could never understand. They die when decapitated or with a stake driven through their hearts. They are monsters.

[Natsuno nodded a bit, exhaling. That was right, monsters. Just like him.]

Jinrou are a subspecies of Shiki. Unlike a Shiki, I am breathing and I have a pulse. I'm warm as though I am alive, but I am not. Jinrou do not die for nearly as long as Shiki, they become Risen within the day. There are three others like me. I can walk around in the daytime, and I can eat normal food to survive. Tatsumi told me that unless I drink blood, I will remain weak. I can't deny wanting it, but...it is nothing like what...he told me about Shiki.

[There's an inflection on the 'he' again. It's not Tatsumi he means.]

...Did a dog just come out of... Link stared in awe, startled at what only could have been magic. He accepted it quickly, though, unquestioning. He had seen plenty of bizarre things in his time here. This was just another one of them.

"Hello, there." Link smiled, reaching down slowly to brush his fingers behind the dog-like creature's ears. He was quite fond of animals, and domesticated dogs had, unfortunately, become uncommon in the dying country of Hylia. Had any made it into the heavens? He hoped so...

"Is she s tracker?" Link continued down the path, sensitive ears wary for signs of wildlife.

[He listened quietly to the explanation, it confirmed earlier suspicions. There was still one question burning in his mind. The Shiki sounded more in keeping with Level E vampires... only they were also able to turn others.]

The Jinrou, are they also able to create more of the "risen"?

[Natsuno nods.]

And the Shiki...but not everyone rises. It seems to be the luck of the draw, actually.

[What a horrible thought. A world where every vampire could turn humans into monsters. His frown deepened. That really left him with a quandary of his own. Had Natsuno said no... then killing him might not have been as necessary, but since he could turn others he was a threat to Kaname's objectives]

It's not so random where I'm from...

[Was all he said at first. He briefly closed his eyes as he struggled for a decision. Opening them once more he looked back toward Yuuki]

If the one that changed you arrived here, would you be subject to his demands?

[Yuuki might seem peaceful enough but his "master" was not. This guy could still be used as a weapon if he was beholden to someone else]

[At the mention of the one who changed him, his eyes widened and he looked away.]

With any luck, he's been killed.

[He sighed.] I don't know. I didn't see him afterwards, and if I did, he doesn't have any demands for me.

[He lowered his eyes in sorrow.] If he came here....I would kill him. [Natsuno's hands trembled.] Even if he speaks to me. I would.

[Knowing the subject was a sensitive one, Kaname still didn't shy away from it.]

[That's different. A vampire couldn't kill his master where Kaname was from. As much as they may want to. Zero had tried to break free of Shizuka's hold but was unable to... could this kid actually accomplish his claims? If that was so different perhaps the process of turning a person was different as well]

How does one change a human into a shiki or a jinrou?

[Natsuno blinks and flinches a bit, remembering the experience.]

They bite the person and suck their blood. Shiki don't seem to be able to drink very much at a time, and the person has to be bitten three or four times to actually die. It took five days because....he was very unwilling.

[That synched it. If this was his world, he couldn't over look that Yuuki could turn others no matter how long it took.... but in this foreign location, so long as he kept an eye on the other such severe actions may not be necessary. It's not as if removing this creature world aide his own world or protect those he cared about either.]

So that's how it is...

[Dropping his arms to his side, he spared a glance to the side before moving for the door. He had what he needed to know and it had come without having to expose much about himself.]

So long as you refrain from indulging in the populace, I have no further reason to detain you any longer.

[As far as Natsuno was concerned, he hadn't revealed anything too personal anyway, skills and methods weren't private. He just nodded his agreement and moved to leave himself. That had been annoying enough.]

(ooc: whoops, I got sort of sidetracked with RL and the game starting- sorry for the delay!)

I think I'd prefer to be hallucinating.

[Okay, she has to ask.]

Hey- have I seen you somewhere before?

Yes it does seem quite magical to someone who isn't used to this, but at the same time it is hard to imagine someone not used to this. Archie smiled at the friendly gesture, the dog certainly did too.

"She is one of the best. I've had her for years and she's never let me down."

The path stopped where the water passed through, showing the extent of Link's travels so far. Now was where things would get interesting. But first, a brief break to fill up the bottles they would be taking on the ship.

"What is your specialty? Are you a trainer by any means?"

"A... trainer? Meaning working with animals? Or men?" He had done both- worked with domesticated dogs used for hunting, as well as with men. It had been a hard and warlike time, in the era in which Link had lived.

He leaned over the stream, taking a leather pouch off his hip and lowering it into the water.

Curious question as it was, Archie decided not to get into the details as if Link had been a trainer, he would know it.

"Animals." He said calmly as he stroked the Mightyena. "I always found them easier to work with than people. The animals of your world are likely far different than mine though."

"Mmm, I would be inclined to agree. We do not have those... storage devices, if you would call them so." Whatever that odd, red and white ball from which the dog had emerged was to be called. Link reattached the now full pouch to his hip and stood.

"But we did have tracking dogs, where I am from. I worked more often with soldiers, though."

Not familiar with the pokeball? Archie isn't surprised, but instead quite amused as back home even the youngest of trainers would know what that is. "Its a very specific type of storage container. Its only meant for the capture and carrying of pokemon, or creatures like my friend here."

Now that the two were ready, he gave a bit of a whistle to the Mightyena to get her attention from the water and told her to lead the way.

"Are you a soldier?" A fighter it was pretty obvious, but to actually be part of a troop was something else.

((unless I just jinxed myself fffff))

"Yes. A knight, specifically." Though his rank had become less of a matter in recent time, with the chaos that had consumed the Land of Hylia. It was less of a matter of authority and more that they simply needed him.

Link continued through the woods behind the Mightyena and beside Archie, inspecting the plants and looking for tracks on his way.

Oh yeah 8D I'm in a crew of mostly game characters right now, I'm sure Link would fit right in. >3
