That is my exact line of thought. It wouldn't due to get lost in a strange land, and while some may be more willing to jump into such things, I'd rather know where I am going and what to expect. It would not due to find myself in a pinch because I was unprepared. I may even prove useful to a crew in need of someone more knowledgeable than most newcomers.
