Test Drive for April 2015 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for [community profile] high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

See you during the application round!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

Titus Alexius | Magi

[A - Stranded]

[There's sand in his hair. He's pretty sure there's never been sand in his hair before. It was kind of novel, how the dampness of the ends of his hair held the sand in, but now it's drying and it's getting kind of gritty and unpleasant. He probably should have thought ahead and done something to tie his hair up before making sandcastles on the beach, but he kind of hasn't gotten used to having, well, so much of it. So now he's holding an armful of it and poking through the ends with a despairing expression on his face.]

I'm going to have to wash this...

[He looks out towards the ocean. Maybe in there...? He's going to be stranded here until the rest of the crew can find him. He's going to have to figure out something.]

[B - Treasure]

[Titus has been "digging" on the beach all morning. This mostly consists of using winds spells and a variant of Aladdin's sand giant spell to move sand without getting his hands dirty, but holes are getting made and that's all that counts. Somehow, he's actually managed to unearth a battered old treasure chest. Now he's hunched over it, eyes wide and sparkling.]

A treasure chest! An actual treasure chest! Like in the stories! Look!

You found one? Buried in the sand and everything?

[He's never gone digging for treasure. Sure, he's seen chests, but now that he's read some pirate stories, this seems all the more amazing.]

Right here on the beach! I haven't even moved it!

[Titus is practically vibrating with excitement. He's read about treasure chests and heard about them in stories other students as the academy told, but he's never, ever seen one himself. He's seen no shortage of treasure, of course. He rules Reim now, after all, but that's different from seeing actual buried treasure in an actual buried treasure chest.]

How are you supposed to open one? Is there something special you're supposed to do?

[personal profile] heartismyown 2015-03-29 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Roxas leans over and peers at it carefully as though he's studying something of great importance.]

Well, when I do it, I just whack it with a keyblade, but I don't know what normal people do with them.

Do you think they buried a key nearby?
childofreim: (:|)

[personal profile] childofreim 2015-03-29 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Titus looks up and down the beach, especially at the huge piles of sand he's moved and all the holes he's excavated. If that's true...

He looks over at Roxas in dismay.]

I was supposed to be looking for a key, too? I didn't know you needed a key.

[In the stories, brave explorers just open the chests. What's inside is what's important, so maybe the authors just gloss over that part. If it's true, though, they might have a problem.]
heartismyown: (Pondering)

[personal profile] heartismyown 2015-03-29 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
You know...I don't know!

[He seems to think this over.]

How else would you unlock it?

[Roxas pokes at the chest, thoughtfully.]

I don't know how it's supposed to work, but I can unlock it for you if you want.
childofreim: (IT'S A CAT)

[personal profile] childofreim 2015-03-29 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Titus tugs at the lid of the chest, but it is indeed stuck tight. He can see a latch and there does seem to be a lock, but he can't figure out just by looking at it where the key would go in. Actually, he's not sure he's ever had to unlock something himself. If Roxas can unlock it, though...wait, is he going to unlock it with...?

Titus brightens considerably.]

With your key?

[He's never gotten a chance to see the key in action! The way Roxas has described it, it doesn't sound like any magic tool he's familiar with. He's not even sure how it would work in theory. And now he'll actually get to see it!]
heartismyown: (Gentle Smile)

[personal profile] heartismyown 2015-03-29 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, with my key!

[The prospect of opening some buried treasure is way more exciting than finding a chest lying around Twilight Town with a potion in it, although having a bunch of potions wouldn't be a bad idea, considering. Who knows what kind of treasure it is?]

I wonder what it is.

[Only one way to find out really. He summons Oathkeeper and points it at the keyhole. Come on keyblade, work your magic! A little stream of light leaves the key and bursts into the keyhole.]

There! Try it now.
childofreim: (blush)

[personal profile] childofreim 2015-03-29 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Titus hunkers down and watches the lock with rapt attention. His hair has to be full of sand at this point, but he barely even notices that. This is a sort of magic he's never seen before! He can't even piece together how it should work. It looks like Light Magic, but he's quite good at that himself and there's no way he can think of that would allow light to act as a key and undo a lock. Maybe if he understood better how locks work, he could figure it out, but all he knows is that they need a key and the key moves something in some way (that clunks!). You shouldn't be able to move something with Light Magic. Gravity Magic, yes, but not Light Magic. And of course there's no point in asking Roxas. He's not a magician, no matter how much magic he's capable of using. The Keyblade, as far as Titus can tell, is some sort of Magic Tool that enables him to cast the spells he does.]

That really unlocks something?

[He can't help but be a little skeptical, but he tugs at the lid anyway. It's old and rusty, but with enough force, the lock falls away and it creaks open a bit.]

Ah! It's opening!
heartismyown: (Smirk)

[personal profile] heartismyown 2015-03-31 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Roxas nods with a grin.]

It unlocks anything!

[He vanishes the keyblade again and leans forward to peer closer.]

What's in there? Is it gold? Or a treasure map?
childofreim: (wtf dude)

[personal profile] childofreim 2015-03-31 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
A treasure map wouldn't be in a treasure chest! That's what you use to find a treasure chest.

[Don't you read, Roxas? He's a little disappointed in you. To his credit, though, he just leaves it at a pointed remark and doesn't make a face. Instead, he starts carefully moving aside the old, musty packing material to try to see what's inside the box. He can already tell it's not gold coins because those are supposed to fill the box up to the top. It must be something else, but honestly, he's not sure what else gets put in treasure chests.]

It's all wrapped up.

[When he does unearth a parcel, it's wrapped tightly. Whatever it is, whoever packed it away wanted it secure and wanted to keep it from breaking. But why did they hide it away? Why go through so much effort to keep something safe and then bury it under the sand on a beach where who knows what could happen to it? He'd really like to ask.]

Should we unwrap it?

[Akira hums to himself as he paces the beach, his own crew having made landfall on the other side of the island. He always takes it upon himself to get the lay of the land, in case there are angry locals.]

Hm?

[He squints as he focuses on the figure.]

You seem a little overdressed for a beach trip.

[While someone people had been making sand castles on the beach Sparks had been surveying the island. there weren't desert islands on Mars but planet was still mostly arid. He didn't need to be no Martian tracker to find water on this island.]

So not only have you wasted time makin' sandcastles when ya could have been watching the horizon for a ship, but you'er all breaded up n sand like a porkchop?

[And people though he wasted time doing nothing.]
childofreim: (:|)

[personal profile] childofreim 2015-03-29 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Pork chop? They bread pork in sand where you come from?

[Because that's the important question that needs to be asked. It seems like a strange thing to coat meat in. It's certainly not a common practice in Reim. Heliohapt, maybe. Yes, he could see it being done in Heliohapt, especially because they're too poor to have the luxury of letting bread go a bit stale for crumbs. He would ask Sphintus about it if he were here.]

Yeah, yeah I see. Step aside.

[Taps the chest with his keyblade at it and unlocks it. He then turns away, because he's not really interested in the treasure.]

[Any excitement Titus would have had for the use of a mysterious Magic Tool is dulled by the sheer rudeness of its owner. He's not used to being treated coldly for no reason and it rankles. He can understand someone being rude because they dislike his station or his personality, seeing as he's felt that way himself, but he barely even knows this other boy. It makes no sense and he doesn't like it.

It dulls his enthusiasm for the chest a bit, but he still tugs at the lid. He wants to see what's inside, after all. That hasn't changed. He's just...not really feeling it as much anymore.]

There's no need to be rude. Didn't anyone teach you manners?

Nope.
