Test Drive for September 2013 Apps

Welcome to our first Test Drive for [community profile] high_seas! Here is where players can test out their characters' voices, try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

See you during the application round!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

"Nope, the ship isn't on fore. Would you be happy if it were? On the other hand, dinner is served, and you're later for it." What, he's the chef, he wants to make sure everyone eats. And humans are much more fragile than most races the space pirate has come across in his travels. "But I can put the ship on fire if that's what you really want."

"That won't be necessary, no." Which was Hijikata-speak for do it, and I will personally feed you to the sharks.

He glanced at the small, round window--it was that time already? His workaholic tendencies were no better here than they had been in Kyoto; he had completely lost track of time as he sat immersed in maps, nautical charts, books of naval theory and local mythology... There were a lot of unfamiliar things here that he needed to master to do his job properly, and damned if he was going to let himself stay so behind on them.

Shutting his book and setting it aside, he rose to his feet and followed Basco out. He wasn't any use if he didn't take care of himself, either, was he? Souji had always scolded him about that, behind closed doors, and Ayumu as well, when she was feeling bold.

But wouldn't it be interesting to see him try~? "Such a pity." Because he's an asshole.

At least he was trying, in comparison to what someone that Basco knows would be doing if he ended up here. In the meantime, Basco was being interested in any type of food ingredients that might be found in this world.

He twirled so his hat almost flew off. "Now, do you drink port, or do you prefer water?"

With his taste for simple elegance, Hijikata found the new world's fashions nearly unbearable. The clothing was frequently bad enough on its own, but God, the hats, they were in their own awful category! He had taken, out of necessity, to some of the Western fashions--well-fitted breeches, loose white shirts, and understated but flattering waistcoats, in particular-- but there was no way in Hell that he was going to start wearing one of those things. The twirling, well... Hijikata was beginning to wonder if he wasn't just a magnet for eccentrics.

"Port will be fine." He could hold his drink well enough, and didn't much trust what water was available on a ship at sea.

Now what is wrong with the clothes pirates use? Basco has used them for years - the same with the hat, it's his original. However, if they found a tailor, he could likely have some of his more preferred clothes made for him. As for eccentric; yes, very much so. But there is a thin line between 'eccentric' and 'insane', and Basco often crossed the line. The type was just maybe charmed by Hijikata's own personality.

"Very well~" There is nothing wrong with the water on this ship, should he only ask if it was.

They did seem to gravitate to him, one way or another. His best friend was a great leader-- and an idiot who liked to show people how he could fit his fist in his mouth when he got drunk. Souji was a genius swordsman and frequently got mistaken for a particularly outgoing girl if he wasn't in uniform, Saitou had his mystical nonsense, Ichimura was Ichimura... Really, the Yamazakis were the only remotely normal ones of the lot, them and Sannan. He had thought it to be just a case of happening to fall into a particular crowd, when he was at home, but it seemed like it happened even here, so maybe there really was something that drew them to him.

He raised an eyebrow, strolling across the deck at an unhurried pace. "You're in high spirits."

What is normal, it can be awfully dreary. But it's also possible to make it fun. And BAsco always makes the most out of each situation.
Odd people flocked together, didn't they?

"I always am." Well, most of the time. He has his annoyed moments as well. "It makes life a little more fun to look at." And then he's almost always teasing people, because it's the most entertaining pasttime.

[personal profile] smoke_and_haiku 2013-08-27 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm," says Hijikata, with a tone like he doesn't even know what the word "fun" means. He glances Basco over, quietly calculating, wondering what's going on behind that carefree smile. If there's one thing he's learned from the company he used to keep, it's that how useless someone acts and their actual capability have very little relation.
silvergoldengun: (!smile)

[personal profile] silvergoldengun 2013-08-27 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
In that case, Basco will just have to teach him! Right? "Do you never smile, Hii-chan?" Yes, he just called him that, and he doesn't seem like there should be anything wrong with it. Calculate on, but his true form, or his sadistic side, is not possible to spot.
smoke_and_haiku: (But the pigs won't quit)

[personal profile] smoke_and_haiku 2013-08-27 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
What an awful nickname. Hijikata found himself reminded all too strongly of the things about Souji that drove him up a wall... Though even Souji referred to him almost religiously as Hijikata-san.

"There was a rumor I did once, as a child, but it's disputed."
silvergoldengun: (!smirk)

[personal profile] silvergoldengun 2013-08-28 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
But nicknames are fun and endearing. They also drive Mabe-chan insane, which was another bonus. Anything that, anytime in the future or close time, is an objection to the nickname, will be ignored.

“Such a pity you don't anymore, a handsome face should wear a smile at least once in a while.”
smoke_and_haiku: (Once upon a time I had control)

[personal profile] smoke_and_haiku 2013-08-29 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hijikata fights the urge to roll his eyes--yes, definitely reminding him of Souji. He withdraws a long, thin pipe from a pouch at his waist, filling the bowl of it with tobacco and fishing for a match.

"A damn shame. Maybe if my crew weren't nothing but trouble..."
silvergoldengun: (!smile)

[personal profile] silvergoldengun 2013-08-30 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
“Not everyone’s gonna be trouble, I’m sure.” He smoothly fish matches out of wherever Hijikata had them. Lit it, and lit the pipe for him. He grins. “Different people have different use.”
