Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

Exactly. We've been doing everything possible to find him or smoke him out, but nothing's worked so far.

And how do the turtles come into all of this? Ninja wars or was it just bad timing?

[Hesitation. She's not sure whether she should tell Cynthia that the turtles KNOW who killed her mother... No, best to save that for a time that would make Cynthia take Karai's side instead of theirs.]

They get in the way of our trying to find him. They're fun to fight, but in the end, they're an obstacle.

No, I get that they "get in the way". But why are they there in the first place? I mean, you don't just fight random people for no reason. That's a little messed up.

Hold on. So far, it's been all give and no take.

My mother was murdered, because she loved my father. That man set my father's house on fire. It burnt my father's face and nearly blinded him in one eye. I was lucky to survive. All I have left of her is a photo, and even that was ruined by the fire.

[Perfect way to grind the guilt in.]

Hmm...well I do recall hearing that exact same story from the turtles. Though their twist is, they have a picture that didn't burn.

[She's only got a little sailboat and hasn't been straying far from the main ship, mostly just learning how to sail in case she ever needs it, but, well, a call for help's a call for help.]

That's a new one.

Davy Jones. He's like a pirate ghost with powers and apparently is maybe even the lord of the dead? We're not dead, though. At least, I'm pretty sure we're not. [Is she even helping any? She has no idea. She's trying!]

Yeah, I haven't actually met her yet. [She's glad of that fact, actually. Someone who sets fire to an island just because someone tells her not to, doesn't sound like someone she wants to meet.] The other people on her crew aren't bad, though, not really.

Sounds sorta like the Brotherhood. [A pause.] A group of mutants. Tend t' cause trouble, but some of 'em aren't too bad on their own.

[Barbara has draped herself in the rattiest blanket she could find, trying to cover up her batoutfit. She doesn't dare lower her cowl, but being seen in her bright purple outfit? Probably isn't going to do her any favors blending in.

She's trying to listen to conversations. She needed information, and fast. This was definitely not the space station...]

[A young lady in a purple skin-tight exercise suit was probably something most people would comment on. However at that moment, there weren't very many people paying attention to her- there was an older lady in a tweed skirt with a beige purse tucked under her arm that was causing more of a stir. She was distinctly out of place with her blue woolen jumper here, but perhaps it was the aura that seemed to radiate from her that caused the problems. Something about her said near me, people die. The young man with an eye-patch and wooden leg looked, possibly for the first time ever, out of his depth.]

I see, Mr The-Gutter, thank you. I suppose I shall have to make the best of the situation as I can. Straight on for the rest of this block? No, that was all. But I've got a lozenge here for that cough if you...

[But then the man was gone, getting away from the older lady as quickly as he could, leaving her stood alone on the muddy, dirty excuse for a street]

What's a new one? That I'm a turtle or that I'm on a turtle?

And yeah, I could use the help. Usually I leave Don to get me out of weird situations like these. But he's...uh...not here at the moment.

Talking turtle. Haven' seen that before. [But she doesn't sound too surprised. Just... interested.]

I'll be there soon as I can. Just look for a little sailboat. If it starts t' dive, SOS is all I can suggest.

[Barbara faced death in the face every day; and laughed at it. She still had that teenaged belief that she could overcome anything without injury.

Grandmas were in their own territory, though. As someone who'd never really gotten to know her mother, matriarchs existed in a special spot of awe in her mind. Especially the creepy grandmotherly sorts.

Still. Old woman. Muddy street. Apparently with directions somewhere useful... Barbara wrapped the cloak tighter, and decided to maybe follow her for a while.]

Oh. Yeah that sounds pretty similar. Uhm, are those mutants in your school too? The ones who cause trouble?

They aren' parta the Institute. Always welcome t' join us, but they don'. The professor thinks they will. Eventually.

[Young people did tend to think themselves far more resilient than older people, that was true. But Jessica would never have told someone to hold back- you could do whatever you set your mind to do!

She walked on, rather more quickly and sure-footedly than some might have believed. She did go for a run every morning as often as her travelling and schedule would allow.

Of course, Jessica was also a lot sharper than someone on the street might take her for, and she slipped down a side-street, and then another, just to find out if the cloaked figure behind her was indeed trailing her.

Finding herself in this strange reenactment was off-putting enough without being followed by shadowy people. But in Jessica's experience, confronting them was the best way to go]
