Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[Rogue half smiled. She couldn't bring herself to even pretend to a full, real one. Instead, her eyes lowered to her hands.

Apocalypse.

And she'd been part of it. Had her mind tapped into, collected everything he needed. It still made her sick.]

Good. Hope y' never have t' deal with 'im. It... Yeah.

Wouldn' wish that on anyone.

[But the question he asked next was better. Easier to focus on that question.]

I'd go back in a minute. It's... not too bad there. Gotten used t' it, a' least.

[he can catch the looks, and even the smell of her unease. He wouldn't pry much into that. It wouldn't really matter anyone. So far it sounded like their worlds were different enough that it wouldn't matter, the outcomes would be different, always.]

Yeah? I suppose that's good. [a bit surprised but maybe not. He honestly assumed his Rogue would want to be back home more anyhow.]

Looks like you got a good control over them powers of yours too. Saw you take down that swordsmen the other day. How long have ya been in control?

"Good control." Think the professor'd disagree, but... My powers are more a... ace in the hole. Not somethin' we use. Not like the rest of 'em.

[Because hers were hard to train.

It wasn't like Scott, who could use his visor to turn them off and on against simulated enemies. Those kind of things did nothing for her. She had to hurt someone to learn hers.

And that wasn't what the professor wanted to do.]

But I-- learned pretty quick. Tangled with the X-men, like, th' first night they appeared. Ran...

Ran straight t' Mystique, just like she planned, an'...

Guess I learned from then. When we've needed me.

Yeah, I guess I can see your point. I think my life is pretty much one long road trip.

[He frowned, leaning there and watching her as she spoke. Just an ace in the hole, huh? Good control but not. Tangled... with the x-men? Huh. An, there was Mystique. Interesting.]

[His hand rubbed at the stubble of his chin, considering all that.] You were runnin' with Mystique for a bit? Huh... interestin' how different things are for you and mine.

[and how much more strong willed this one was compared to his. At least that he can tell so far]

She got me spooked an' scared me half t' death of the X-Men. Made me think they wanted t' kill me.

[Started with him, actually. Which worked. Send the most terrifying first.]

So, I ran with the Brotherhood awhile. Then got things sorted out with Scott an'... joined the team.

[And there was that smile again. Just a little hint of one. A typical teenager with typical teenage crushes.]

I'll give her that. She's good at what she does. [Mystique. He shook his head, watching her as she spoke about Scott. That hint of a smile. He snorted, glancing off as he took a long sip of his drink.]

[Scott's dead. He wont speak.... TOO badly of the dead. He's actually upset about that. but the guy still bugs him. Aint he a bit OLD for her anyhow?]

Guess Scott is good for somethin'.

[And she arches an eyebrow. It's a strange, skeptical look because... Well. That's not how she's used to Logan talking about Scott.

Sure, they disagree sometimes, but they're worlds apart. Nothing... like that.]

Nice t' me even when I was with the Brotherhood. Talked t' me at school, all that.

[He snorted as she said he was nice to her. He couldn't help it. He was... 'nice' to people. He and Scott just butt heads is all. You know, stealing his girlfriend and all. Or, well, not really. Jean chose Scott. In the end she... took him away and Logan stepped in.]

[He was the ass. He knows that much]

Heh. Not sure how you're world works, but Scott and me? Never really get along, but he was a pretty good with you kids. [until Jean died] So I aint surprised.

Us kids?

[That's the phrase that clicks. She sits up a bit, frowning as she crosses her arms on the table and leans forward. That is interesting.]

Scott's only a year older 'n I am. Just graduated Bayville High.

[his nose scrunched up a bit as he too sat up some, arms still leaning on the edge of the table, his hand rolling the bottom of the bottle on the table.]

[Not that's different]

High school? [OKAY, first of all, high School? What about the institute? Second of all.... he's a KID? What the hell.]

Sounds like things are... a bit more different then I thought. [more so then his height and her Logan's, haha.] Where I'm from, Scott was... a bit older then that.

Yeah, high school.

[The Institute in its infancy, a far different story than the one he knows. Something that isn't even a school yet. Just a boarding house for kids who don't belong on their own.

Starting to be a school. Slowly. Especially with the public starting to give them all sideways glances.]

Jean an' Scott just graduated. [She managed not to roll her eyes. Not her fault Miss Popularity still annoyed her.]

Next year... Who knows. Our 'kind' might not be welcome anymore, not in a public school an' all.

[Bitter? Who's bitter?]

Jean... ,small>[Whoops, that took him back a moment. Her too? God damn it.]

[He ran a hand over his face, shaking his head. Jean was here. His Jean. She was angry with him, and understandably so, but she was here. Alive. He let out a soft sigh.]

The Professors place is a school. Was... a school. Boarding school. Things were pretty good there for a while, so I'm told. Not sure where Bayville High is. Though I'm more surprised the Professor allows you to go to a school at all.

Professor has Scott an' Jean actin' as instructors, but... nothin' like a real school. But we're gettin' more kids in every day.

Wouldn' be a bad idea t' be able t' really bunker down.

[Not that she sees things going from bad to worse with the legislation and everything. She's just waiting for someone to decide it's a good idea to move against them, especially since they know.

They know what the Xavier Institute is.]

Most of us have enough control for a school. Scott's got his shades, got my gloves. Not too differen' 'n Mississippi. Just know the real reason t' wear 'em now.

Don' even know where I'd go if I took one. But... m' friends an' I? Definitely need one.

Hmmmm.

[He takes a sip of his coffee and frowns. More names of places he doesn't recognize. There truly are more worlds than anyone could ever count.]

No need to be so modest! After all, I haven't been to either of those places or the world where you'd find them, so that alone would be a wondrous tale for me. Of course, if you don't wish to...?

[He cocks his head to the side, trying to prompt her.]

Your world seems like a sad, dismal place.

[Ringabel pats Gene's shoulder briskly to show the true depths of the pity in his heart. What a horrible place he must be from. He'll leave that off the list of possible worlds to end up in.]

Perhaps you should consider staying here. It seems like a nice enough place to settle down.

Thankfully the good thing about being a pirate here is you don't have to do those things. You know, hijack and ransom, and all of that. Mostly my crew just sails around exploring and hunting for treasure!

Pointless? Flattery? My dear, I assure you that I speak from the depths of my heart, which you have well and truly stolen. And as such, I will gladly tell you all I know.

[Though that could take some time, because he's kind of an expert in this sort of thing by now. Hopefully he'll be able to keep her attention.]

We seem to have found ourselves in a world not our own. I don't know about you, but this is sixth time this has happened to me and I thought the fifth time was supposed to be the last, so this is a bit confusing. If everything is true to form, there's some business with crystals to be dealt with before we can go home.

[That was a bit of an oversimplication, but it was a start. No doubt that would be enough to raise some questions he'd need to answer before continuing.]

Yeah... It got pretty bad, but... We fixed it.

[She smiles for a moment, then starts to wonder.]

So you have powers too, right? Uhm, you didn't mention what they were, though... [She's not sure if she should really ask, since the information hadn't been offered, but... She is curious.]

Good. Glad t' hear it.

[And there's the question.

She hates this question.

But, she's been confided in. She's been told about her sister. Least she can do is offer a bit of trust in return.]

I... yeah. I've got powers.

They're... why I wear m' gloves. If I... If I touch someone, I get their mem'ries. Emotions, abilities... powers or jus' skills. Hurts 'em, too. Usually knocks 'em out.

[...And now to wait.

And pretend not to notice the probably inevitable scooting away.]

Yeah, the thing about that is that I have responsibilities. You know, people who count on me?

Do you actually make any money?

Yes, yes, I can understand that. I have places I need to be for the same reason. I'm going to catch quite the earful for wasting time here, I'm sure.

[He leaves out the part where he's sort of looking forward to it.]

You are more than welcome to take it back. I have no plans to hold onto it.

[She hopes with that the topic of his heart can be considered done with.

The woman listens patiently to his exposition, her expression turning sour as she does.]

... Are you suggesting we have been transported to another world? [That's difficult to believe. Most residents of Labirynthia are convinced the town is the entire world, and while the High Inquisitor isn't one of them, moving to other locations within the world is where she draws the line.] Surely you jest.

[If he does, Storyteller has mercy on his soul, as Darklaw is obviously not amused.]
