Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

I would have been okay if this was my afterlife though. It's better then home. Though it doesn't explain what is going on. I got shot in the back. I should be dusted.

Why would you bring a shrimp like him along!? I mean, I guess he's pretty good.... [ she says that grudgingly ] ...for his age... but still!

[ Kuina you're like what a year older than him shut up. ]

I don't care why you killed them. [Luffy wonders if he's the kind of guy who wants to have his name known. It seems like it but it doesn't matter either way] Are you just gonna go after Navy?

[ And it's a girl about Wendy's age who said it, apparently. But she doesn't look fazed by his threatening yet comical response. ] Sorry, you weren't supposed to hear that. [ Yes he was. She said it loud enough so he would. ]

Shrimp? [head tilt. Why would she call him that? Maybe because he blushed when he was shy about something and made his face red?] He's going to be the greatest swordsman in the world and he's even pretty strong in the New World. [nods]

But I brought him along cuz I liked him. He's a great guy.

Does it matter?

Guess not. But if you attack anyone I like I'm gonna kick your ass.

[ Yeah, okay, wow. She picked him because she figured he'd be strong, but this is kind of... outclassed.

But still, his words reach her, and her ego won't take it lying down. ] No, it's not! [ She twists her sword as she pulls back - nobody would even attempt to keep close to a sword's blade as she did that - and would follow up with a series of quick combination strikes meant to break through a defense. ]

Forgive if I don't ask everyone I meet whether or not you like them. If something is an obstacle, I remove it. I don't care if you like them or not. I don't even know who you are, stranger.

That's okay. I guess most of the people I like are strong enough to take you on anyway. Shishsishi I'm Monkey D. Luffy, the man whose going to be King of the Pirates.

Tell me. Kuina. What is a sword, to you? What is the purpose of it?

[He draws his hand back, before finally drawing his sword parrying her blows. His back eventually hits the railing on the side of the ship. After a quick hop, he balances on top of it, daring her to come up after him.]

You want to grow stronger? Why? What's the purpose of your swordsmanship?

I certainly hope so. Strong people make a place more interesting, and I hate boredom more than death.

Pirate King? Seems a rather pointless title. What's the purpose of that role?

That's impossible, because I'm going to be the greatest swordsman in the world. [ ...Swordswoman. Whatever.


But besides that, something does strike her about this conversation- ] But.... I just saw him yesterday. How is it he's with you?

The Pirate King is the freest person on the seas! I'm gonna do whatever I want whenever I wanna do it. It'll be great!

[and he'll get to find the one piece, too! Whatever that was. It was such an exciting mystery]

[ Her stance doesn't relax any, but her expression does, a bit. That does help explain his ridiculous skill. ] It sounds hard, but it looks like you found a good place to grow stronger.

I guess that means I'll have to work twice as hard to catch up! [ She follows that statement with a lunge forward, moving Wadou to try and knock his blade to the side before curving around towards his body. ]

Guess you'll have to fight him for it then.

You saw him yesterday? [blinks] Were you at DressRoba?

You'd be surprised what people can survive. [ Kuina you died falling down a flight of stairs you have no room to talk. ] Though.... you'd expect to at least be wounded from something like that. [ And he looks fine to her. ]

I already have. Fought him for it, I mean. [ Two-thousand and one times. ] I haven't been to a "Dress Robe-a." I saw him at my father's dojo. He's a student there.

These seas certainly don't seem free.

[he looks at her for a moment. Then scratches his head under the hat. This is going to get a little weird]

Zoro hasn't been a student for a while. I dunno if he still was before I met him but he's been sailing with me for two years.

Sometimes the ghost guy brings people from behind and sometimes ahead...so I guess he's ahead of you right now.

[That's more like it! He's not using haki at all so just his instincts are playing into his reactions, urging him to keep up with her speed and pivot to keep her from getting a hit on him. The ring of her blade against his is all she gets before Zoro spins in place to change position and block on his blind side. It's like his memories are finally catching up, recalling how it feels to face his envied rival, and he can't help but grin again.]

You don't normally survive a thing like that is all. [Looks fine to him as well.] I can feel it though. And it doesn't change the fact that we're in a town where someone called me a pirate. That's a new one.

I'm free. [he picks his nose idly] Why aren't you?

Some of us have important business.

[ Follow him up there she does. She's used to structured matches - a dojo, a field, not hopping up onto railing - but she's skilled enough to handle it well enough. ]

That reason's simple enough. I'm going to be the world's greatest swordsman. [ She punctuates that statement with a few slashes - the first one is off-balance from being up on a rail, but she adjusts quickly for the rest that follow. ]
