Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[ Whoa. Dang, Zoro, she knew you'd be good, but... ]

Hey! [ ...but she was proud of that move, dammit!

She slides her katana off of his, stepping back to get a little bit of distance.

She feels like she's the gauge to show just how much Zoro's improved. And he's improved a lot. Her ego's never going to be the same, you know. ] You've fought a lot of skilled swordsmen, haven't you? That's your experience talking.

[he's not a kid anymore, no.]

A few. The Grand Line is unforgiving. You have to keep getting stronger or you die. [he raises the sword, its tip pointed straight at her, but his posture relaxed] And it's not just a fancy saying, I mean it. I almost died at least three times in the first year alone.

[ Her stance doesn't relax any, but her expression does, a bit. That does help explain his ridiculous skill. ] It sounds hard, but it looks like you found a good place to grow stronger.

I guess that means I'll have to work twice as hard to catch up! [ She follows that statement with a lunge forward, moving Wadou to try and knock his blade to the side before curving around towards his body. ]

[That's more like it! He's not using haki at all so just his instincts are playing into his reactions, urging him to keep up with her speed and pivot to keep her from getting a hit on him. The ring of her blade against his is all she gets before Zoro spins in place to change position and block on his blind side. It's like his memories are finally catching up, recalling how it feels to face his envied rival, and he can't help but grin again.]

Oh? [ Kuina grins as he blocks that one. ] Pretty good! Let's see how you handle this! [ She launches into a few more advanced maneuvers - the kind of stuff she doesn't usually throw into her fights, which tend to be simple but ferocious, if technically skilled. But she's trying to improve, and she's not as worried about winning, so why not? ]

[He pivots again, keeping the dance going.] Not bad, but what if there were more of me? What if you had a hundred of me surrounding you?

[he can't do that, of course, but he has enough breath to talk shop while they spar. It means she hasn't pushed him far enough yet.]

[ THEN YOU'D BE CHEATING ZORO. ]

Do you think you'd need that many to beat me? [ Yeah, okay, so she'd lose, but it'd also mean she'd get one hundred times more training! Actually, that doesn't sound too bad.

She continues her assault, trying to go in for lows and highs in combination. ]

[He keeps up with her just fine, although her height is an interesting challenge. He can see why the adults always lost to her - not just that she's that good, but that they were too used to fighting people their size.]

All right, a hundred Marines, then! It's a lot different from fighting one-on-one you know.

[the longer this goes on, the more he feels like drawing a second blade.]

[ And it's still weird to Kuina, who's used to being a lot taller than Zoro.

But as for his question- ] You use their numbers against them! Make sure to move around so they're in each other's way. Use it to throw them off. [ Normally she'd throw in a remark about the absurdity of having to fight Marines, but then, she's technically a pirate now, isn't she?

She throws in a few feints now - she doesn't expect to catch Zoro completely off guard with them, but maybe throw off his reaction enough to get in at least one point. ]

[he can feel the momentum and knows which swings to parry and which to avoid. It really isn't fair.]

That's right. As long as you remember that in that situation, and don't lose your head when you see it coming at you for the first time.

[he's been so engrossed in just enjoying the spar that he hasn't even thought about taking a hit on her to score points. So, stalemate works fine too.]
