Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[ Not many would notice the awkward pause between notes, but another musician certainly would. Sona perks up curiously, slowing the pace of her music to make it easier to blend with - playing more predictably. ]

[Well that was certainly generous of the harp player to slow her pace so Maribelle could catch up. Perhaps she wasn't quite as skillful as the maven of strings, but she knew enough to recognize what Sona was doing. The sound of Maribelle's violin grew a bit louder as she slowly approaced Sona, curious about who was playing her counterpart melody.]

[ Sona stays put instead of seeking out the music, but plays up towards a slow crescendo. May as well give her mystery partner a dramatic entrance. ]

[grizzly_tea]

[That earns a soft little laugh from Maribelle, almost like the chiming of a bell as she does reveal herself at last to Sona.]

I must say dear, you really are quite skillful in your craft. Might I inquire as to your name?

[maven]

[ Sona's music drops to a sudden silence.

She reaches down to her lap, and lifts her journal. ]

[Maribelle blinks in surprise, but reaches for her own journal in return. She writes a quick notation in her journal.]

Can you not speak? Or dare I ask if you're a deaf musician? That would make you quite the rare talent.

[maven]

[ Sona writes back: ]

Mute.

My name is Sona Buvelle. It was lovely to play with you.

[grizzly_tea]

Ah... that would explain it then.

My name is Maribelle, and I am similarly honored to have been able to play with you. Where did you learn to play Miss Buvelle?

[maven]

You can speak, if you prefer.

My mother taught me when I was young. And yourself?

[grizzly_tea]

Oh... of course. It was rather silly of me to simply assume that you prefer to be spoken to that way.

I was tutored at a rather young age by my father, but I furthered myself through study to become a more capable violinist. My son is actually starting to become nearly my equal at the violin if not surpassing me in a few years. He's a rather gifted young man.

It's alright.

It's good to be self motivated. Do you perform on stage?

[grizzly_tea]

Well... I did perform a few times as young girl for the courts of Ylisse, but nowadays I mostly just play for myself. I'm not exactly much of a concert violinist myself. What about you?

[maven]

Ilise?

[ Sona pauses, not sure how to spell it, and draws a couple extra question marks around it. She'll get to herself later but first she wants to be polite and get the right spelling. ]

Your home?

[grizzly_tea]

Ah, that's Ylisse. There's sort of a silent Y at the beginning of it, so I can't blame you for not getting the spelling right away. When I was growing up as a young girl it took me forever to get it right.

My home is in the capitol if Ylisse, Ylisstol. Though my father is a duke that lives with the rest of my family in an estate in another province. I work for King Chrom as one of his advisors.

You're very kind to say that my dear. Might I ask where you hail from? I know this place loves to mish mash all sorts of different cultures and worlds, but I find it helps to learn where everyone comes from. After all, I've learned that so far a rather great majority of people brought here hail from a nation known as Japan.

Ionia, in my childhood, though I was later relocated to Demacia.

I've never heard of Japan.
