Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

Really? Oh well... nobody knows every part of the world, I reckon. Though I did think everyone knows Bahamas.

[That spot in the horizon? Definitely an island. If they keep going a while longer, they can put their feet on solid ground again.]

[Winry laughs a little breathlessly - because, you know, kicking and all.]

That makes sense!

[Annnnd, yes, that's sand underfoot, and Winry crawls over the planking to collapse on dry land.]

Oh...I never want to do that again!

[Etta is more than happy to do the same. Though she soon rolls over and sits up, leaning back against her hands.]

Let's hope... you don't have to. [She needs to calm her breathing.]

Were you travelling with anyone? I mean, is there someone who might come looking for you?

(ooc: Sorry I've been so slow to tag. No need to feel bad if you prefer to drop the tread.)

[Winry groans but sits up.]

Maybe...if he realizes I'm missing. What about you?

No. I wasn't even supposed to be on that ship. Not that I was a stowaway but I told everyone I was boarding another ship.

[Ringing the water from her long hair, Etta studies the girl's face.]

Why wouldn't he notice?

[That's curious, and Winry eyes Etta thoughtfully as she starts wringing out her own hair.]

Why would you do that, tell people you were getting on one boat, then get on another?

[And she rolls her eyes at Etta's question.]

That's a long story!

To bluff the British authorities. My friends don't need to lie for me if they don't know where I've got to.

[She smiles somewhat mischievously.]

I have all the time in the world to listen to your long story. [A pause.] But if you don't like sharing that's fine by me. I'm not fussy.

[hands4healing]

Oh...are you in some kind of trouble?

[Winry kind of knows about people in trouble.]

Are you sure? It almost goes back to my birth!



[ooc: Are your icons from Cutthroat Island!?!?!]

[Well, now she laughs.]

Some people claim I've been consorting with the pirates. I rather not answer questions about it.

[Etta gets up and removes her two layers of petticoats, tossing them on the beach.]

Like I said, I'm not fussy, but you're starting to sound very interesting.


[ooc: Yep. Sorry the info wasn't on Etta's profile earlier. It is now. I haven't seen the movie, though :). I just found the icons and wanted to create an OC.)

[Winry snorts]

I think that's all of us, at this point!

[The idea of being interesting has never really crossed her mind.]

Well...like I said. It's a really long story.


[I am one of the few people who loved that movie. I'm glad to see you using the images, at least. :D ]

You could be right about that.

[Etta offers her hand.]

Ready to explore the island? I wouldn't mind finding something to eat.

[Winry accepts her hand with a grin.]

I need something to drink, too!





[OOC: Yeah, it had problems, but for brain fluff, it made me happy.]</small.

So let's hope there grows fruit trees on this island.

[She helps the girl up and slowly starts heading towards the bushes.]

If you're worried... well, don't be. I'm pretty sure we'll get out of this island in no time.

[hands4healing]

I think we'll be okay...if we find water and something to eat, that's the important thing.

[Winry follows Etta. She's tired and woozy, but she keeps her balance fairly well.]

I'm not too worried. Ed will figure out I'm missing, and. [She sighs, somewhere between fond and exasperated.] He'll come looking.

[Etta is tired, too, so it's not like she's leaping forward. Walking in front of Winry, she is careful not to let branchs hit on the girl's face.]

If we're lucky, this island is inhabited. [Inhabited with friendly people, she means. Etta does notice the way Winry sighs.]

Sounds like you wouldn't mind if this Ed didn't find you.


(ooc: I just did an internet search for 'small tropical island' and the first image is the one used for Isla Empieza :P)

Inhabited...I hope!

[Winry doesn't have any money, though, and that's always worrisome. She's just not the type to take something. Maybe she could barter?]

[And she snickers at the idea of not wanting Ed to find her.]

We're...I'm not sure what we are. Good friends. We've been through a lot together.

[OOC: Thanks! I guess we'll see each other there now!]

That remains to be seen. [It might not sound like it but Etta tries to be upbeat about it.]

Now that's better. Friends. You can't have too many of those.

[Wet and worn out she ventures further into the forest.]


(ooc: Well, not yet unfortunately. RL work turned out worse than expected so I couldn't finish my app for this round. But thanks for playing with me; I hope I can use this thread later.)

[Winry shrugs, if they can find food and water, that will be what they really need.]

He and his brother are my best friends.

[And she follows Etta into the trees, curiously looking up at the screaming birds overhead.]
