Test Drive for October 2013 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for

high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

Yeah, I mean the useful kind of interesting. Or the 'about to try and kill us' kind.

Yeah, nothing like that.

Well, actually...

[He stops looking up at one of the trees, tapping his chin in thought.]

Hold on, I'll be right back.

[AND HE IS GOING UP THAT TREE RIGHT NOW.]

[And he's gone so quick, Paulie can only grumble]

Guess next time I need to tell him not to climb off, too.

[From up in the tree Ven calls back down.]

Hey Paulie, catch! I found some fruit that we might be able to eat!

[Think fast, man. A purple fruit about the size of an apple is falling from the sky right at you.]

[Good thing he noticed them sooner, or he'd likely be getting smacked by a fruit right now. As it is, he just catches it in hand]

That's one way to get them down. Now we just need to hope they don't make us sick.

If we find a village or something we can ask the people who live there!

[Ven drops to the ground, holding one of the fruits in his hand. He tosses it back and forth, looking it over.]

I wonder what it tastes like...?

Not a bad idea, kid, as long as whatever village we find doesn't run us off.

Just don't go getting impatient - I'm not cleaning up for you if you take a bite and get sick.

Why would anyone run us off?

Some people don't want pirates around on principle. So if someone keeps blabbing that he's really a for real pirate...

But I am a really for real pirate!

THAT'S NOT THE POINT! The point is some people hate all pirates so keep it to yourself!

Oh...

[Now he just looks sad.]

... Even if they ask?

[Dammit kid, stop giving him that kicked puppy look]

If anyone asks, you're a traveler passing through. Not like it's a lie.

[Can't stop. Won't stop. VENTUS CAN NOT BE TAMED!!

He tosses the fruit back and forth a little more before he starts walking again.]

I guess.

You said it yourself, didn't you? Not all pirates are good. You can't blame people for getting jumpy.

Mm, yeah, you're right...

[The path begins to turn and when Ven rounds the corner he almost immediately cheers up.]

Paulie! Paulie, there's a village up here!

Yeah?

[Well, there's potentially good news. So long as they don't do anything monumentally stupid! His spirits slightly lifted, he can't help a little more teasing]

Maybe it'll be a village of dinosaur people.

[OH MY GOD. HE DIDN'T EVEN THINK OF THAT!!!!

Ven stops in his tracks, turning to look at Paulie over his shoulder with the most excited, expectant grin on his face.]

That would be so cool!

[Sigh. Ven, you are so gullible]

Don't be an idiot! Do you really think there'd be a village of dino-

[And Paulie stops in his tracks. During his tirade, he couldn't help but notice some of the villagers milling about the streets, and maybe it's a trick of the light but those people look awfully lizard-like, and... are those tails? With spikes?]

[Ven stops right along side him.]

They're dinosaur people!!

[Okay. He can do this. It's not like he's never dealt with other species before - there's been mer-people and... well, mer-people. But that's not the point! It's nothing he can't handle, and he quickly tries to regain his composure by stomping out the cigar that had fallen from his mouth and lighting another one to take it's place]

Yeah... looks that way. Just don't stare, it's impolite.

[Paulie, he stopped listening to you like ten seconds ago. As soon as he looks up, he'll see that Ven has already started dashing his way to the village to meet the locals!]

Kid!

... tch, he better not tick off the locals, or he'll get his wish of fighting dinosaurs.

[And with a sigh he begins to follow after, figuring he shouldn't let Ven get too far out of his sights]

[By the time Paulie has caught with him, Ven has already introduced himself to a rather bewildered(?) looking dinosaur person. Maybe he was just taken aback by how energetic Ven was...?

Either way, Ven eagerly waves Paulie over once he spots him.]

This nice dinosaur man said they have a place for us to stay tonight!

[Ven, you are going to get talked to later about etiquette. For now, he just nods]

Alright, great. And did you get a chance to ask about the fruit?
