Test Drive for December 2013 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for

high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ NAVY SHIPS! Cannon fire! Guns and explosions! It's a Pirates vs. Navy battle! **HINT: This might be a good one to try this time around... :D

You can say that again.

[She looks around furtively. Now that she's said it, she expects to hear that obnoxious little giggle any time now. That's the annoying thing about ninjas, really. You never know when or where they're going to show up.]

A friend of mine thinks it's hilarious and one of these days I'm gonna make her pay for it.

[A light frown.] Not anymore?

[A shrug.]

Exploring, mostly. It's all pretty focused on figuring out how to get home, but the upside is that we can have some fun while doing it! They don't exactly have everything charted out around here... You can just sail in any direction and find something new. [A pause.] And getting back here is always easier than going out, for some reason.

You are a spirited one.

You'd probably get along with my Mum, you know. Well, as much as anyone can.

[He's just going to not take the hand simply because if he did he'd worry he might accidentally crush it or something. While he has some control over his strength now, he can never be too certain.]

I hope so, but it was an accident. I don't even know why they were attacking in the first place. [he ponders for a moment.]

I'm from London, if that is what you meant? If not, I'm sorry.

They call the it Isla Empieza, but I don't even know where that is.

[She looks pretty indignant about that, not even knowing how she got here was frustrating. But after a second or so she relaxes a little, glancing towards Kodai]

You feeling better now?

Yeah, that and we got some problems with the local authority.

[He looks at her, arching an eyebrow.]

Do I look as if I'm going to tell him?

What kind of problems?

[Not that it's unusual, she did get exiled from her own country once. Sort of. But still, it needs asking.]

[But she almost instantly follows up with a light-hearted grin.] Can't be too careful. It's always the quiet ones they say.

You think so? I guess I get along with most people pretty easily. I mean, I put up with that ninja girl, after all. I deserve praise for that one. I'm sure you know how it is with that one friend who seems to exist to make your life difficult, but you still like them anyway? Everyone has one of those.

I don't know. Maybe.

[He shrugs. He's not really sure where things are going to go at the moment, even more so with this new little roadblock thrown in the way. He has his suspicions, of course. He knows what he's good at and what he'll likely volunteer to do, but he's working for a whole new set of people now and he doesn't know what they'll ask of him.]

Don't worry about it.

They took and damaged what belonged to us. We got it back, with interests.

[And by his tone it would take a real idiot to not imagine that a lot of blood and destruction was involved in those interests. The tone vanishes at the next part, though, as if it had never been there.]

I assure you, I have no interest of going around yelling about everything I do or every person I meet.

[A heartbeat.]

I will warn you now, though. The TARDIS isn't here, the Doctor said so.

[Oh... She feels bad now, for jumping like that, but it wasn't easy for her to not to. Sebastian's funeral is still fresh on her mind, the whole event on the Campania as well, seeing Sebastian fight that strange man with that strange weapon, the zombies, everything. She doesn't even want to think of dying. And being here doesn't help, in a strange world, forced to act as a running away criminal even when she has done nothing wrong, the things she has seen, the things she has heard... People have already died here, and though they returned who is to say that will happen again?]

I'm sorry... I... I'm sorry, Finnian, I didn't mean to yell at you like that. It's just that... Things aren't like back home, you know? This whole place is just horrible and dangerous, so dangerous. I don't want to think what would be of us if we... Just the mention of it makes me sick, so, please, don't ever say that word again. Please.

[She looks down as she speaks, improper of a lady when in front of a mere servant, but as much as she may want to keep the roles, to keep some sense of normality here... The truth is that her and Finnian are not different at the moment. In a place without security, without a home, without classes they belong to... Her voice is a thin and soft sound when she finishes speaking.]

[ When Ambrosia awoke in Isla Empieza, she immediately got on the defensive. The last thing she remembered was that she was to make landfall on a gorgeous island that was ripe for the hunt for treasure and now she was... here. Where was here and where the hell was her ship and her crew?!

Okay... Freaking out wouldn't do her any favors, but she would definitely make sure to make whoever brought her here would pay dearly. Maybe with their head.

She took to walking around, hands in her pockets as her coat billowed out behind her and her hat blocked out the sun from her eyes. ]

Pirate's life fer me~.

[ Somehow, you've ended up with Ambrosia on your crew. She's generally a hard-worker, what with swabbing the decks and manning the sails. However, being the captain she is (if she's not the captain, that is), she's staring at the map for the next plan to attack and tilting her head to the side as if in thought. ]

Mate, if ye's askin' me, this plan kinda sucks. They'd be expectin' us 'n we'd make ourselves look like fools. Might I suggest a better one?

[ Below decks, though, she's dancing and singing while drinking the pirate's drink of choice, whistling. Maybe a decisive victory happened or we're just celebrating for the heck of it. ]

[ Although, if she's the captain, expect to be relegated to deal with the chores or if you just want smalltalk while she's navigating, feel free. ]

[ There's been a battle of sorts, probably the Navy trying to get rid of pirates altogether and through the end of it, Ambrosia's sitting on a pile of unconscious and rather bloody Navy soldiers with her sabers stuck in the gut of one of them.

She sipped from a flask of rum, closing her eyes as some blood runs down her face. ]

They could've sent more if they wanted t' hang me. Tha' way, I wouldn't be so bored...

[ Zeref is staying back. While his ship has been lucky enough to avoid combat, he always swore he'd stay out of the fighting unless it was an extreme emergency. For one thing, both Mami and Homura have shown themselves to be more than capable of handling themselves - and quite a few Navy soldiers - and he doesn't quite understand how Grief Seeds work quite yet. For another, he's worried that if he did take on a more active combat role, he'd start enjoying killing again. As much as he doesn't want to admit it... killing Hades felt good. ]

They're still alive.

[ Zeref said quietly, stepping across the gangplank that was used to board. His eyes are closed, for now. ]

If you're going to insist on this, then finish them off. Letting them languish like that is unnecessarily cruel.

[ Easy to say for someone who specializes in a form of magic so lethal, that those who are on the receiving end are literally dead before they hit the ground. ]

[ Ambrosia capped her flask when Zeref spoke, using the sleeve of her coat to wipe her mouth off. It's almost scary how calm she was when she just killed people, but she supposed it was normal by now to exert this behavior with how long she's been in the trade. ]

It gets th' point across, don't it?

[ She'll snake a hand back and twisted the saber around, hearing the man's cries of pain while she stared down at the floor. ]

It lets th' Navy know not t' take us as light as they have been if they figure out they died from slow torture as opposed to quick, clean deaths. Ye'll learn tha' soon enough, lad.

[ She got up to grab her hat, dusting it off from the dirt and grime before settling it on top of her head. ]

If you won't do it, I will.

[ Zeref's eyes open, as he holds out his hand. His are eyes bright red with small circles around his pupils, unlike their usual black color, which, anyone who is familiar with him, knows that is not a good sign. A black orb appears in his hand, which he promptly hurled at the pile of languishing soldiers. Any noise they were making before stopped immediately, as they fell perfectly still. The wood underneath them also rotted away into nothing, but the hole that formed was clogged by the bodies underneath. ]

Trash foolish enough to challenge us forfeit the right to mercy. That doesn't mean I'm going to pay them any more attention than they deserve.

Fine by me. I don't care none.

[ With a tone of finality, Ambrosia's shoulders shrugged as she watched the explosion happen full force with a look of mild curiosity. She made sure it was safe to get her sabers again before sheathing them, not even minding the blood that coated her blades. ]

Ye say tha' as if ye's got a guilty conscience, ye know. Like ye've got some skeletons ye don't want no one t' find out 'less ye trust 'em. [ She looked up to the sky as she stood. ]

Am I right?

What else would it be?

[A rhetorical question. Magic is one of her own strong points -- it does not occur to her that it might not exist in his homeland. She simply assumes that he has never seen magic in action before: it is, after all, a rare ability when one considers the whole population.]

You said that you were under attack. Would you please describe your previous circumstances?

[Perhaps there is some clue in therein.]

[Oh c'mon, Asch; you know you totally wanted to join their crew of awesome assholes, two kids, and a dreck. Don't lie.]

[Luke gave Asch a return glared at being called a nuisance yet again. He was pretty sure he didn't deserve half of his duplicate's crap, which was annoying as all hell as it was. The fact that they looked alike didn't help either; it was like arguing with himself, only much more annoying.]

Why do you have to be like that? I'm trying to be nice, even if you don't deserve it!

[Sync really picked the wrong boat to stowaway on, considering there were two people on it that not only knew who he was, but definitely weren't fans of his. Not that they had realized yet he was there, something that... had happened once before for Jade, but not Luke.]

[He would get to hear Luke before he saw him, as the bratty noble was grumbling all the way up to the crows nest. Why the heck did they only have a stupid rope ladder up to the thing, anyway? Shouldn't they have... well, maybe gotten some kind of elevator installed? They had the trollies around Baticul! An elevator on a ship wasn't too much a stretch! And why did he have to do it anyway?! Just because he was bored didn't mean he had to be ordered way up high like this!]

Stupid, four-eyed jerk! Probably sitting down there drinking tea and laughing... tch!

[This is probably the first person Codi's come across who looks like an actual pirate, and she is not at all disappointed. The ginger flashes an appreciative grin at the ensemble just before she passes.]

Hey, nice coat!

[ Ambrosia stopped at the lady's praise and grinned, a finger resting on the rim of her hat, tipping it slightly in greeting. ]

Thank ye, lass. Stole it from some shop 'cause I could.

[...Also acts like a real pirate, too, which maybe isn't the best. Then again, Rider's about the same, and she's tolerable if you know how to handle her. Hostility isn't the way to go, if this woman is anything like the Servant.]

Now that's not very fair! Poor shopkeeps hardly stand a chance around here.

[ It seemed like Ambrosia's eyes narrowed slightly, but not out of annoyance or anything. She's just sizing the other woman up, maybe seeing just how strong she was at a first glance. ]

Not here, lass, though th' thought has crossed me mind. [ What does one expect? She's new here with very little supplies. ]

Do ye got a name? I mean, if ye prefer lass, then by all means I'll continue callin' ye it.
