Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[ check? check how? and wait a second- ]

Tarantulas?! Why would there be- [ she'd involuntarily jerked in surprise, causing the hem of her skirt to brush against the skin of her leg ] I think I just felt something!

[ she immediately struggles to get out and ends up tipping over the barrel ]

Eh? Really? [the barrel is tipping but he grabs it with surprising strength for his otherwise thin looking arms and lowers it so she doesn't completely crash against the deck]

Let me see!

[and then he tries to crawl in there with her. Well one out of two ain't bad]

What are you doing?! Stop or you'll get hurt- [ of course, she's probably going to be the one to end up hurting him as she flails as the barrel becomes unbalanced again and she once again feels the brush of something (it is still her skirt) and she decides to do the heroic thing and save him from himself and slaying the awful possibly-a-tarantula thing before he gets all the way in. she tries stamping down with her foot but barrels? unsurprisingly not that roomy. ] At least wait until after I've killed it!

Ah! No don't kill it! I wanna keep it! [and he goes deeper into the barrel to save it which means his legs are mostly sticking out and he sneezes as skirt gets in his face but he wants that spider bad enough so it's okay]

I mean that people back home don't notice you're gone, according to some guy here who seems to know more than we do. ((He gestures vaguely, then shrugs.)) So... if you're worrying about leaving people behind, you're not actually leaving anyone behind.

Yeah, well. I'm pretty sure not of us wanted that either. [so, so deadpan]

I see you're doing the work of a simple laborer. Fitting. You do seem to have the mentality of a beast of burden.

What a handicap it must be, to have no viable skills beyond swinging a sword. At least Mihawk has a brain to go with his brawn.

Zoro bristles, and his hand rests ever-so-subtly on Wadou Ichimonji's hilt]

Yeah? Something tells me you're a bit behind the times, Croc. At least Hawk-Eyes was smart enough never to get his ass thrown in Impel Down.

[Roxas blinks at him.]

Why not? Do you forget things too?

[Roxas is pretty new so there's not much chance L-Elf would have seen him in combat, and based on just looking at him, Roxas is not the most impressive presence.

The papers catch his attention and he walks around the mast, reading the pages one by one. He's not sure what's up with the exercise regimen, or what some of those things were, but his overall assessment wasn't that great.

Confused he looks down at the boy. He crouches down and pokes him with a finger on the shoulder.]

Hey. Are you okay?

[breakfastmetaphors]

[L-Elf catches him by the wrist and stares at him for a few moments. Roxas. Moderately effective in combat with unconventional and inefficient weaponry. Significant deficiency in processing and retaining information. His initial crew assignment was menial chores and on that he agrees with the captain's assessment for once.]

Don't ask unnecessary questions. What were your assigned duties for this morning?

... You've got to be kidding.

[ This island. What is even happening. ]

Luffy!!! This is the kind of information you need to share right away! A lot of things happened and alliances been made, and we need you to be fully prepared! [ Shake shake shake. ] This is serious!!

And I got out of Impel Down, along with many others. Perhaps it is you who should get up to speed.

[Elissa was crossing the square after making some purchases up the way at Backwater Brig. Though her thoughts were elsewhere, it was easy for the sight of an extremely tall man to pull her from them. And then? She recognized him.]

You. [One word, yet it said so much. Denial. Anger. Frustration. Old scores? Pausing, Elissa calmly put down her package and then straightened to look up at Crocodile.]

...Ah. I recall you. I was on board the same ship as you, correct? How is the old Captain doing? I trust he looks as much a filthy bilge-rat as ever.

[heartismyown]

[Moderate? Who was L-Elf calling moderate?]

I thought you might be sick or something so I thought I'd make sure you were okay.

[elissacousland]

He has disappeared much the same as you did, ser. [She tilted her head as she looked up at him and then crooked a finger at the man in an effort to get him to lean downward. Ser Crocodile was far too tall for discreet conversation.]

[He raised an eyebrow at this gesture, wondering if he should comply. Did she have some sort of useful information she couldn't say in public?]

What? What do you want?

[elissacousland]

[Elissa gave him a look.] You are as tall as an ogre. That tends to make communication difficult unless we wish for the entire town square to hear what is being said.

[breakfastmetaphors]

[He releases his wrist, but the stare only intensifies.]

I was resting. Have you forgotten your duties for the morning again? I believe you were told to write them down.

[heartismyown]

[It's one thing for Lea to tell him that, it's quite another for this guy to do it. He frowns at him in annoyance.]

I don't have any duties right now.

[breakfastmetaphors]

Is that so?

[It wouldn't be surprising. Ace isn't the best manager of time or personnel. He'd offered his services to help with both, but was unceremoniously told that he'd start off as a cabin boy just like everyone else whose abilities the captain had yet to test.

Such a waste.]

It would to be to your advantage to practice shipboard combat or record this morning's events in your diary.

[That would be the most effective use of Roxas' time that he would be likely to pursue. It's to his understanding that Thatch wants Roxas to be trained for the defense of the ship and there really isn't any role beyond that and cabin boy that he's suited for.]

[Ace tells people when he needs them to do something and they do it. It's a pretty good system all things considered. He blinks at L-Elf's oh-so-helpful commentary on his time.]

Nothing happened this morning and I don't have to practice combat. I do it all the time.

[megatonpunch]

[He shakes his head, before giving a pause and thinking. He tries to put his stubby arms against his lips in a thinking pose before his expression brightens from an idea.]

Hiiiii~! [That's all he really says. Or rather due to silent protagonist syndrome, all he's willing to say most of the time.]
