Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[A brow goes up - not irritated yet, just curious about the so called fashion plate calling attention to him. He has food, which means he has money likely and information probably. Useful things - and Law needs to get to obtaining some of those.

Wierdest afterlife ever, man.

But if the man is jibing at him, then that's all the invitation the pirate needs drop the tourist routine and decide to try to get some answers at least out of him.]

You could say that. [Don't recommend the ride in though. That eyebrow arches a whole lot more.] I take it you're the local fashion consultant around here?

[caster_blaster]

Nah, just your average space outlaw. Not that I think many people around here would understand what that even is.

[He chews on another takoyaki ball before extended one out to him.]

You hungry, by any chance? I've got a hell of a hangover, and I don't think I can finish these.

[deathsdoctor]

Starving. Thanks.

[Free food. ... Law's even sure to mind his manners here, because if the guy's giving out lunch, he might be further helpful, and that can only improve his situation.

Then he points up.]

A pirate from up there? At least that's what I think that's what you're saying, right?

[Which is somewhat of an appealing (if foolishly romantic) thought. It would be interesting to sail a sea of stars. If that's what he's taking about, anyway, when he means space.]

[caster_blaster]

Not really. I've fought plenty of space pirates, though. Outlaws are more like...in-betweeners, I guess. See, out there, there's really only three roads to take.

[He marks them off on his fingers.]

You're either working under umbrella of the Federation, which governs the "civilized" areas, you're with the space pirate guilds, or you're an outlaw. We don't owe allegiance to anyone but our ship and those on it. Outlaws do what it takes to get by and we end up with enemies, but I like it better than answering to someone.

I'm Gene Starwind, and I'm the Captain of the Outlaw Star...Not that I can show you, considering it's orbiting a world that's probably a long way from here.

[deathsdoctor]

I see. [Thoughtful.] That sounds kinda like how it works back home, though we have no guilds. Though more... organized crime syndicate type organizations under the Yonkou.

[He's going to find a crate to sit on and nibble his takoyaki.] Trafalgar Law. Captain of the Heart Pirates. At least back home, anyway...

[Which means... no, it means the same thing, even if he's dead. He's still what he is. It hasn't changed.]

[caster_blaster]

A pirate. I see.

[His hand twitches at his side for the moment. There are no happy go lucky pirates in his sector of the galaxy. Not that he's ever met. The pirate guilds are an organized, efficient horde of killers.]

Now by pirate, I assume we mean the same thing. Thieves and murderers who waylay anyone unlucky enough to be in their line of sight.

I think I have a more broad defination of that. A pirate is anyone my world's government considers an outlaw and sails the sea. And since my world's pretty much all ocean...

[His eyes fall on those twitching hands. Might be having problems soon. Alright...]

Yes, there are pirates who do what you just described. But then there are ones who like to do things rescue children. We come in all walks.

[caster_blaster]

Funny...Well, I can't exactly prove how things work in your world, can I? Guess I'll have to take your word for it.

[The tension in his body relaxes.]

I can honestly say I've never heard of a humanitarian pirate.

Hm. This world is supposed to be full of pirates, correct? I suppose you'll more than hear of them, sooner or later.

[caster_blaster]

Are you guys tough?

[deathsdoctor]

I'd like to think so.
