Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[She merely glances at him, displeasure still in her face.]

Maybe it would be better if this wasn't a decision that came from me, but was imposed by others in order to keep people safe? The way a criminal would be treated?

That wouldn't be right either. You shouldn't lock people away for being the way they're born, and people shouldn't sequester themselves away just because they're afraid of hurting people.

It's not like you're some sort of monster, you just have a special gift that you have some trouble with.

[letthestormrageon]

[That... Surprises her a bit and the displeasure vanishes from her face, leaving just confusion for a moment before she smiles and shakes her head.]

You just say that because your first exposure to my power was this palace. You wouldn't say the same if I had casted ice spikes around when scared or made you slip by accident.

[caster_blaster]

Oh yeah?

[A small smirk comes over his face as he cracks his knuckles.]

Alright, then. I'll show you. Throw an attack at me.

[letthestormrageon]

[The sole suggestion makes her step back, away from the handrail as if it burned.]

What? No!! I don't want to attack you!

[caster_blaster]

I'll totally block it. I'll show you that I'm not afraid of it, even after seeing the more offensive side.

[letthestormrageon]

No!!

[The idea is outrageous. What is he thinking?]

I won't attack you! Why would you want to do that?! Just to prove your point?

[caster_blaster]

Absolutely. See how you're reacting right now? You're so scared to death of hurting someone with your powers, that it immediately stresses you out. I think the best thing is stop always thinking you're going to accidentally hurt someone.

I've talked to a lot of people here, and ice powers are far from the only unique ability out there. Some people have some REALLY out there abilities, and they don't let it slow them down.

I'm not made of snow. I'm not gonna' die.

[letthestormrageon]

[To stop thinking that she's going to hurt someone? Does he even know what he's saying? A snow storm begins to rise, and a cracking sound is heard somewhere in the palace.]

Are you crazy?! You could die!! I almost killed someone before! What do you care if I'm here alone or not?

[caster_blaster]

Because if there's one thing I can't stand, it's seein' a good person bein' punished. Whether it's by themselves or someone else. As for death, that's an everyday possibility in my line of work.

[letthestormrageon]

I... I'm not being punished.

[She shakes her head, stepping back even more as the snow storm arises. Her voice is shaky, the fear and stress increasing inside of her.]

[caster_blaster]

You've practically exiled yourself out of fear of hurting people. That's a self-punishment if I've ever heard one.

If you talk to other people out there, maybe they can help. Just because you couldn't find an answer on your world, doesn't mean you can't find help from another. Maybe someone can train you. Teach you how to master it.

[letthestormrageon]

I was taught! I had help back there! And it was useless!!!

[Her voice raises as does the snow storm, the raging wind pushing against him. The cracking sound that had started continues and increases as the walls seem to change shape, abandoning the beautiful forms in exchange of spikes.]

I tried to control it! I tried to keep it under control!! I just can't!!

[caster_blaster]

[He's very glad that his usual attire is pretty well-insulated, even if it gets hot on occasion. He holds his cloak shut.]

Oh? Who helped you, then? What did they teach you?

[letthestormrageon]

My parents... My father did. He did his best, he tried to help me, to teach me to control it. He gave me gloves so I wouldn't freeze things upon touching them. He taught me to conceal it, to keep it inside... But I failed.

[Why is she talking about that? She doesn't want to, why can't he just leave. Why does he care?]

[caster_blaster]

...I'm sure he meant well, but...That's not what I mean. Teaching someone to hide their gifts away isn't the same thing.

[letthestormrageon]

It's what I needed!! My problem is that I can't avoid using it even when I want!!

[caster_blaster]

How do you know that's what you need?

[letthestormrageon]

I just told you! I can't stop using them!! What else could I need?!!

[caster_blaster]

Well, let's talk it out, then. You weren't using your powers like this when I came, right?

[He pushes through the icy wind to get closer to her.]

What triggers these flare-ups? It's obviously due to stress, right? So why do you stress out so badly?

[letthestormrageon]

[She steps back straggling a scream when he gets closer.]

Don't come near!!

[caster_blaster]

No.

[He activates his light shield gloves, erecting a barrier that diverts the wind and ice from him.]

See? You don't have to worry about hurting me.

[letthestormrageon]

[She shakes her head, taking another step back even if the magic that he seems to use confuses her. She knows she can do much worse than just a snow storm, and she doesn't want to take the risk.]

Please! Step away! Leave!!

[With her begging the storm increases turning into a full blown blizzard and sharp ice spikes raise from the floor, threateningly.]

[caster_blaster]

[He stands his ground for a moment, then powers down his shield, slowly stepping back until he's a safe enough distance away to let her calm down.]

...Better?

[She still takes another step back. Looking at him warily, not convinced that he won't try something again.]
