Test Drive for January 2014 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for

high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

*Don't mind Adol, he's just blinking, wondering if one of Feena and Reah's people just ended up on the ship.*

Are you all right? *That seems to be all Adol can come up with for conversation after being startled by the man's appearance.*

[looks down nonchalantly, as if he's not hitching a free ride off a stranger's ship]

I haven't been attacked yet, so I'd say I'm pretty fine.

*So casual taking free rides there, stranger!*

Were you trying to flee from somewhere? *A cursory glance over the side of the ship reveals no other vessels. Did maybe this god get lost? Or was it just a man with wings?*

Flee? No. I was scouting for an island when the sun went down. But this ship the only solid landing I've seen, so...

[He spreads his arms out as if to say "and now here I am!" in the most unapologetic way possible.]

I guess it's lucky you found us. We haven't sighted any new islands around here yet. *The man with the wings doesn't look like he's a part of a force and it's true there's no other ships around, so it could be he's telling the truth. He does look like a capable fighter though.*

I'll have to talk to the captain, but I think there'd be room for you to spend the night on the ship.

[frowns] That's not necessary. I only need to borrow a perch until I can make the flight back the way I came. [NOT THAT HE ASKED TO but, y'know. He'll take the risk.

This supposed kindness is making him suspicious, though.]

How are you going to be able to fly anywhere without light? Unless you can figure out where you're going by using constellations. *Adol is generally an easy going person to people unless he's treated poorly in response.*

I can't. But if I know which direction I came from, it's better than flying completely blind. I'm not staying here, and there's nothing else in this area of blasted ocean, so I don't have much of a choice.

[Not many people are nice by default to this guy, especially not humans. So he's just going to keep staring down at him warily. But still borrowing the mast.]

*Adol has had the distinct pleasure of having all sorts of adventures and meeting various kinds of peoples and gods and monsters. Being respectful sure doesn't hurt. Unless you're trying to kill him, then all bets are off.*

Well, I can't make you stay if you don't want. So hang on a minute. *He runs off and reappears in a few minutes with a flask of water, a compass and some paper.* Here. You can drink this while I figure out your directions.

[He looks a little baffled. Kindness without reward is not something he's used to. It's a nice gesture, but he's certainly tricked people with less than an innocent flask of water; sorry, he makes no move to come down.

Pointing a thumb back behind himself: ]I've just come from that way. It's not as if I've circled your ship to land. Nothing to be so concerned over.

*Well, he'll just put the water at the base of the mast then.*

No, but sometimes it's easy to get confused on directions if there's no landmarks or sun. *Adol eyeballs the compass and draws a few lines, adding a directional cross and marking off north.* Well, here's where you came from. This should probably help you where to go back. *He holds the piece of paper as high as he can, since the winged man doesn't seem inclined to leave the mast.*

[Okay, now he's definitely got to ask, because this is more trouble than he'd ever be willing to help out some random guy freeloading a ride.]

Kid, what are you trying to do?

*Okay, he does look a bit young, yes, but he's 19! An adult, really!* Well, you don't want to stay on the ship so the least I can do is help you out where you need to go.

*But Adol gets the feeling that's not quite what the stranger is asking.* I knew two people who were like you. I met them on an adventure a few years ago. They both had wings, except of a lighter color. They were my friends. *In the case of Feena, he might have liked her just a tad more than as a friend.* I thought you might have been from the same people as they were.

[That is still so super young to him. And he seems really naive. Offering water and help to non-human strangers! What kind of sick world is this.

Alright that last comment sparks his interest big-time, because as far as he knows no one around here is familiar with his kind.] Both had wings-- laguz? You mean to say you've met other laguz?

I don't think I ever heard them refer to themselves like that but there's so much I didn't know about them. I know they're probably a lot older than I am and we helped each other free the ancient land of Ys from demonic control.

*It can't hurt to ask but...* Have you ever heard of anyone named Reah and Feena? Those are the two who are like you.

No, I don't know anyone by those names, personally. But it's not as though I know every laguz single in existence. [Not even touching the part about demonic control. He just came from a debacle with a couple goddesses himself, it's not like he can judge.]

They had wings. Did they have any other abilities? Could they shift? [grillin' you for info]

*Just like his friends wouldn't know every winged person in their tribe, right?*

Well...when I first met them, their powers were sealed and they just looked like people without wings. They turned out to be the ancient goddesses of Ys and statues of them, or people like them, were all people with wings. Maybe they were a different...tribe of la-guz?

[....well alrighty then. Just...a hand over his face, and a sigh. He's not getting involved with any more goddess business.]

Right. I'm not quite sure...they're the same. As the laguz from my world, at any rate. Not if they didn't describe themselves as such. [Maybe just celestial people with wings who can't shift into birds, what the hell does he know.]

You might be right. Or it's all connected in some way we don't understand. *he shrugs* Well, whenever you've had enough rest, you can take the map and the water and be free to go. Fly safely. *he tucks the crude direction finder under the water flask at the base of the mast and walks inside the cabin*

So there's like 27 Fire Emblem games, right?

like, fifty. ...okay maybe closer to 11.

3 are with some guy named Ike and there's one that just came out for 3DS, right?

I've only played two, so I only know of one Ike tbh! you're right about the 3ds, though.

Is your guy from the game on the 3DS?

nah, he's from a couple out a while ago on gamecube/wii.

i've never heard of your guy's canon before, btw!

The Ys series is more popular in Japan BUT 7 of the 8 offical games are available in the US!

i see! quite a few games in that canon too.

4 for PSP, 1 for Vita, 1 for PS2 and 1 for Steam

ok, wasn't expecting Steam in that list. neat!

Ys Origins is Steam exclusive, but the other games might have Steam copies
