[She sounds as in awe as she looks, eyes glancing back down at the, at first glance, unremarkable little book.]
Yes, communicating over a broadcast isn't new to me either. But we use headsets and walkie talkies or jutsu. This is a very high level of technology. [Or... something else.] And very useful. Can anybody read anything you write?
[She pulls a pen from her pouch that she had snatched at the bar and writes a 'Hello?' in it.]

Not really. It's just like a walkie but with writing as well as sound. I'm a little disappointed there isn't video yet but that took a good thirty or so years even in a place that didn't rely on rum to make water safe to drink.
[Bridget spotted a potential store and slowed to a stop so she could take a look through the little window.]

I can't believe something that's normally simple and common is able to act as a communicator, with writing and sound. What is it powered by?
