Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[It's funny how fighting alongside Naruto is an infinitely different experience from having to exist alongside him -- if funny means impossibly irritating and if Sasuke ignores the distinct recollection that even when fighting Madara there were moments when Naruto sounded like he didn't quite deserve his Academy diploma. Whatever the reservations, it's true: destroying things with Naruto isn't a problem, but when it's just the ocean and the extremely limited space on board a ship, it's intolerable.

If Sasuke's irritation is as much about the ship's lack of progress and the strange, bemused way in which Itachi seems to actually enjoy his former teammate's presence -- that, he doesn't choose to examine.]

I'm impressed that you managed to get this much taller without growing your brain as well.

[And damn it, Naruto's childish responses just make him sound like one in return -- with effort, he reins in some of the blatant irritation and amends:] In any case, do you really need this many of you for some standard chores? The rest of us get by without clones. You take up too much space this way.

[obstinates]

[To be fair, any shared, limited space with Naruto no matter who you were would probably get pretty old pretty fast.

He chews on the inside of his cheek a little to keep from biting back as soon as Sasuke speaks. It's really tempting to just tell him to PISS OFF or something, but obviously Naruto missed several years of hanging out with his rival/best friend. They've got to make up for lost time! Even if Sasuke pisses him off like always.

Instead of an angry retort, he just grumbles a little and sticks a finger in his ear to scratch as he stares out over the waves.]

Eh, it's a big ship. There's plenty of space, y'know. It's not like they all need beds or something.

[thethundersaid]

[It's been old. Oh, it's been old. It doesn't help that Naruto's chakra is impossible to ignore, these days; Sasuke is accustomed to the pulse of Itachi's, close by, but even beyond the clones, Naruto radiates in an attention-demanding way that frustrates as much as it infuriates, and Sasuke isn't even a chakra-sensing type like Karin.]

It's not that big a ship.

[It's a bigger one than he started out on, but still --]

It'll shrink fast once you've been on it for a while.

[obstinates]

[The blond blinks towards Sasuke, not fully turning his head but still looking at him anyways. He still needs to ask how long Sasuke's been here, but it hurts his head every time he thinks about it since he just saw Sasuke at the battlefield. Screw this place.

Either way, he just grins a little and folds his arms over his chest while leaning back a bit.]

So we'll get a bigger one. It's not hard, y'know. Either that or we'll get back home in no time.

[thethundersaid]

[Naruto says both things as if they're doable in a heartbeat -- and it's probably not that hard to get a bigger ship if one's available, assuming they pool their resources, but getting home?]

Do you think we've been sitting on our hands this whole time? Nobody wants to be here. Your showing up doesn't get us any closer to this damn jewel.

[obstinates]

[That's pretty much what he expected as a reply from Sasuke. In fact it's so close to what he was expecting, he just yawns and looks out over the sea again. Naruto is the dense one, but he looks at things in such a simple way that it's sometimes hard to deny his point, which is why he replies with:]

Of course it does. The more people helping out, the easier it'll be to find it, right?

[thethundersaid]

Only if the people helping are actually useful.

[It's an instinctive response, and it's an Academy-level one; Sasuke snaps his gaze away as well, glaring across the water in frustration. Sakura is one thing -- the last serious battle they'd faced had made it abundantly clear that they needed a medic on board. Naruto has always been all impatience and swagger, and Sasuke's not looking forward to when time and saltwater wears it down.]

[obstinates]

[Even if he's totally been the more mature one so far, he grumbles a little. At least Sasuke isn't trying to kill Sakura or him, and for the most part, things are kinda the way they used to be. Naruto annoys Sasuke, Sasuke pisses Naruto off, and poor Sakura is caught in-between as the only rational one from time to time.

So he just glares over at the Uchiha for a bit without anything else to say until he finally mumbles:]

Seriously just gonna... shove you out of this boat one day.

[thethundersaid]

[He's trying to resist it -- he really is, and it's too easy, especially since he's not the only one who does his morning run around the ship -- but in the end, he has to say:]

You know we're ninja, right?

[obstinates]

[A grunt.]

I didn't go to an academy for rice cookers. What's your point?

[thethundersaid]

Even if you threw me overboard, I'd just walk back onto the ship.

[obstinates]

Just throw you over again.

If you could.

omg i'm telling mom

[obstinates]

[His grin starts to return.]

It'd be easy enough. Just make enough clones that there's no room on the ship anymore since you say there isn't much space already.

NOOOooo wait who's mom

[thethundersaid]

[He raises an eyebrow, supremely unimpressed by the strategy:] Not everyone on board can walk on the water.

IDEK MAN IDEK

[obstinates]

Then I'd just make extra clones to carry them.

[Because clones fix everything. Don't hate because you don't use them, bro.]

well DON'T TELL MYSTERY MOM PLEASE

[thethundersaid]

For what purpose? To prove that once again, you have to multiple yourself to handle one of me?

since you asked so nicely

[obstinates]

[His face turns slightly red from frustration.]

I only need me, dammit. More is just unfair for you I guess.

That's not what you said a minute ago.

[obstinates]

[Goddammit, Sasuke really can press his buttons better than anyone.]









... Shut up.

[thethundersaid]

If you leave this spot, you won't have to hear me.

[obstinates]

[Tempting, but even if he's pissed, he's not going to run off that easily. Even if Sasuke frustrates the hell out of him, he has a sneaking suspicion he annoys Sasuke even more than that. Besides, maybe if Sasuke hangs around him and Sakura enough, he'll get more like he used to be!

That's Naruto's logic since they're at least past the point where Sasuke wants to kill them all.]

It's my turn on watch, so I guess I'll just deal with it.

[thethundersaid]

[He can feel the urge to give in to an irritated sigh building, enough that he inhales for it before getting hold of himself again and controlling the exhale.]

We don't need two people on watch. [Trying to sound reasonable after spending the past few minutes trying to insult Naruto out of his space is maybe a lost cause, but Sasuke has only so many square meters of space and he needs to trim his temper to them. Or at least try.]

The biggest attack we've had at sea was a breeze and some flowers, anyway.

[obstinates]

Sounds like a wimpy attack.

[Pffft, breeze and some flowers? Sounds like something Ino would dream up. Then again, Naruto doesn't really wanna piss off any of the girls since he knows personally how hard some of them hit.]

If we don't need two people, you can go do somethin' else, y'know.

[thethundersaid]

Yes, which means since that's all we've had, you're not needed up here. [The aggravation in his voice is real, even if he fully expects Naruto to shrug off the (very definitely legitimate) reasoning.]

You can just go down and replace one of your clones.
