Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[Marvelous slaps his hand on the wheel, cocking an eyebrow.]

Maybe let someone else handle that for now, then.

Eh?

[Blink, blink... She looks up innocently.]

Why? I can handle it. And I want to help. I just need to figure this out...

...is there a switch I'm missing?

[In fairness, Marvelous can't entirely criticize.

He'd had similar thoughts, but had realized soon enough he needed to learn better. So he did.

So, he just sighs and waves an arm to try and usher her away so he can step up to the wheel properly.]

No switches, kid. All this stuff is about as old fashioned as you can get.

[knightlyidol]

[A little reluctantly, she steps away from the wheel.]

Old fashioned? I don't think I really get it... I mean, you always see someone standing at the wheel and the ship just moves, right? Is... Is that not how it works?

[...it would help a whole lot if Makoto's knowledge of ships didn't come completely from movies.]

[Marvelous gives an exasperated sigh and leans against the wheel as he turns to face her.]

There's more to it than that. Wind matters a lot, too.

[He jerks a thumb at the sails overhead for emphasis.]

But I'm thinking this might be jumping too far ahead of yourself.

Wind? Oh... So that's what those things are for. The... sails, right? They always talk about hoisting them.

[She'd been wondering about that.]

Really? Then, what should I do?

[Marvelous just gawks at her for a few moments. That... she didn't even know...]

...okay, let's try this the other way around.

What can you do?

Well, I can fight. And I can sing.

[She thinks it over for a moment...]

I can also make omurice.

[Nevermind that she made it once. With help.]

...well. Two of those are useful.

Though we're not fighting all the time, so...

[Pause.]

Can you cook anything else?
