Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

Judith ✧ Tales of Vesperia

[ A ] [Cannons are going off, the sound loud and the atmosphere thick with smoke and splintered shards of wood. They're being boarded by an enemy ship, and Judith couldn't be more thrilled with the idea. Things were getting a little too serene on their voyage. It's finally time for some action! A bit of excitment to cut through the monotony.

She smiles, her spear out and her body poised to attack. She's perhaps too happy with this, and she has that scary look in her eyes as she watches and revels in the chaos. The fact that she's actually inviting this... ]

Come on, let's have a little fun!

[ B ] [Judith is taking a quiet walk around the town, arms held behind her back as she meanders through the streets. The sun has long since dipped behind the horizon, the darkness only cut by dim street lights and low-burning torches. She isn't much for sleeping, and it would seem that even a new change in scenery isn't going to alter that fact.

She looks up the sky, nostalgic and somewhat sad.] Ba'ul...

[This is the longest she's ever gone without her dearest friend, and she can't help but think about him as she looks out over the sea and into the distance. A small laugh leaves her lips as they curve just so out of a frown.]

If you could hear me now, you'd be telling me not to worry. Wouldn't you?

[ C ] [Wildcard! Judith will be out and about, pretty much willing to get involved in anything that'll hold her attention long enough.]

[Estelle is no stranger to fighting either. Sure, she doesn't quite....revel in it the same way that Judith and Yuri do, but she does what she needs to to protect her friends and ensure their safety. When she hears the cannons, she immediately grabs her sword and heads to the deck, eyes widening at the sight. But she is determined to do her part, lips pursing as she rushes over to join in and try to cut down at one of the approaching pirates.]

Judith, you keep them busy to the left?

[spearthis]

[She hears footsteps approach from behind, and they're too soft to be that off heavy-footed pirates. She casts a quick glance over her shoulder, and when she's greeted with pink her eyes light up even more.]

Estelle. [She watches the princess cut down one of their enemies, and with a satisfied nod turns back to do the same. She brings her spear down on one, and jabs another off into the dark waves and debris below.] Shout out to me if you need to be covered!

[The opposing crew isn't all that large, and they appear just as capable as your average crew, so this shouldn't pose much of a challenge. They've picked a fight with the wrong boat, but Judith doesn't mind at all.]

[astion]

Right!

[And with that, Estelle gets to work, parrying and attacking where necessary. It's not something she has thought about, but even she has improved a lot in her fighting ability over the course of their journey together. While stepping around one particular pirate, she notices one behind her companion.]

Judith! Behind you!

[Estelle quickly attempts to smack the pirate in front of her away, moving to help Judith if necessary. She knows she can heal, but even so she would rather help her friends and avoid them getting hurt if possible.]

[At Estelle's warning, Judith spins on her heels to see the enemy pirate approach her. The one she was dealing with prior winds up to attack while her back is turned, but she ducks and the attack instead knocks the other one down. Now low to the ground, she sweeps her leg to kick the feet from under her last opponent, subduing him with the force.]

Estelle, thank you! [She stands to engage the remaining invaders, this time moving closer to Estelle to provide support. She shoots the girl a smile, eyes glinting with excitement.] What do you say? Should we finish them off?

[astion]

[There is a small smile of relief when Judith manages to fight off the pirates coming after her. It's better if her friends do stay unharmed if possible, though she cannot say the same for their opponents. She stands her ground and gives a nod of agreement, eying up the last few that aren't currently fighting off their crewmates.

Ever best in support, Estelle casts Angel Ring on the confused group, allowing Judith and the others to better attack as their opponents are all closer together.]

Now!

[spearthis]

[And with them bunched together like that, it takes but a mere swing of her weapon to knock them down. She rams the tip of her spear into the splintering wood of their ship right next to the head of one of the downed pirates as a warning to stay down. She leers over them for a moment, eyes hard but smile soft. That should get the message across: she's feeling merciful today.

It isn't long before what remains of the enemy crew retreats, defeat leaving a smoky trail behind them as they flee. Judith approaches Estelle after a moment of observing.]

That was a good fight, wasn't it?

[astion]

[Estelle is not surprised when Judith seems to be having fun, being a little more merciful today on the pirates. At least this time she is giving them a chance to flee if they choose. It's a change from how determined she was when they first met her, and Estelle knows how much she and Yuri seem to enjoy their fights.]

It was. I'm just glad it is over. You weren't hurt at all, were you? I can heal you.

That sounds about right.

[Rita must have slipped nearby while Judith was reminiscing.]

It's... I guess it'd be very odd to not have him, given the connection you and he have, huh?

[spearthis]

Oh. Hello, Rita.

[She cranes her neck just so to offer a soft smile in the mage's direction. She sighs in thought, gaze once again trained on the sky.]

It feels almost like a piece of me is missing, so it's definitely strange.

[blastiaobsessieanonymous]

... I get the feeling I'm going to know what that's like in not too long, once we get back home.

[Rita's hand almost reflexively goes to the collar on her neck - the blastia that allowed her to cast spells.]

[spearthis]

[It's for the best, Judith thinks as she watches the girl clasp the blastia around her neck, but she can relate. Blastia has more than shaped Rita's life, so the abrupt absence of something so integral will be absolutely jarring. Pity and remorse briefly flashes across her face, but it's quickly replaced.

Rita is strong, and she doesn't need to be told that everything's going to be all right.]

Once we get back home, I intend to do a little travelling with Ba'ul. [This brings to mind a conversation that they've previously had, but now that the circumstances have changed...] I'll continue to offer it, if it'll continue to help.

You mean after Tarqaron?

[spearthis]

After we take care of everything, yes. With this we'll be able to stay together, and it won't be as lonely or boring.

[blastiaobsessieanonymous]

It's... Well, I guess it's not all bad?

I mean, magic's still possible even without Blastia. Just... It's going to be a lifetime to figure out how to truly replace them with something based on Mana.

[spearthis]

Well, if you come with me then you might find some answers.

[blastiaobsessieanonymous]

Heh. When we're back and done, I'll probably be right back in Aspio...

[spearthis]

That is where your home is, right?

[Or is her home with them now? Trick question, perhaps.]

Well, I more-or-less own a bed there, so...
