Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[A quick sniff of his nose is all Mako gave at the mention of ‘crew’. Enlisting wasn’t an option for him, but-]

I just want the shard that’s on here so I can get home to my brother sooner. [Still in the air if it really is, he’s just going off of what he’s been told about the ruby.]

I don’t care about whatever the rest of these guys want. [He’s used gangs in the past to get what he wants, so why not pirates as well.]

[A brother. He can understand brothers. But that doesn't change the situation.]

We all have a need for the shards that are equally important to us. My own brother is here, but he needs to return to our world in order to help save it. I will stop anyone who tries to take ours in order to make sure that happens.

[That said, his eyes turn red. The shortest glimpse of them will catch Mako up in his illusionary technique, though the other wouldn't notice a difference.]

[streetferret]

[The shift does catch Mako’s tawny gaze and he squints at the sheer strangeness of it. When he notices that they’re not on the ship anymore, he tries to take a step back.]

What did you do? [Everything about this felt wrong. Very wrong. Mako was prepared to fight a waterbender, or someone close to it, and this isn’t it at all.

Miscalculation on the detective’s part to be sure.]

This is my illusion.

[He could have done something simple, like keep their environment the same so that Mako thought he was still attacking when he really wasn't, but he wanted to get his point across faster.

It isn't the Tsukuyomi. That takes too much energy here and this teen won't be the only attacker he'll have to deal with. It is a simple open expanse that he'll see, ground dark and sky in a perpetual sunset. The sound of crows can be heard in the distance.]

I want you to know how serious I am. We should be working together to gain these shards. Perhaps we will be able to grant the return of everyone brought against their will.

[Illusions.

Mako’s in over his head and he knows it. This kind of thing is closer to spiritual territory, and that’s something he’d much rather be backing up Korra in. More so have his brother as well. If anything, Mako’s used to being a team player.

And who he’s with right now, they’re interested in his firebending and nothing else. But trust never comes easily.]

Yeah, that makes sense. But who’s we and who gets to make that choice once the shards are together?

[That’s something he needs to take into account before deciding anything else. There’s always a catch.]

Everyone. Every pirate here was brought here against their will.

We find someone among us we can trust enough to speak the actual wish and we all decide among ourselves how best to word it so that it works out well for everyone.

There's no guarantee that the stone will even work to begin with. We have only the words of a couple faceless voices, and anyone powerful enough to bring us here could just as easily use us for their own needs as help us with anything.

[The ground beneath them shakes, splitting the ground between them.]

Fighting each other is counter-productive.

[A concern of his given voice. That stone may very well be nothing more than jewelry and everything could be for nothing. But it’s the only lead on getting home has.]

You said your brother’s got to save the world. [He has to raise his voice to be heard over the cracking earth. An illusory sound and visual, but it’s real enough to him.]

I can trust someone like that. I have before. [That’s its own story.] If we can get more shards together, and it does what everyone says it does, then he’ll send us home, right?

I'm sure he will do his best to see that it happens. As will I.

[Sasuke may be rather focused on their own world, but he seems to respect others in his crew enough that he would help them if he could. He's his brother, in any case, and he'll put his own trust in him well enough.]

If we only have one shot, we should make it go as far as we can. I don't like the thought of leaving my crew stuck here, much less everyone who's suffered the same fate we have.

[streetferret]

[If there’s one thing Mako hated, it’s admitting something that felt like a weakness. Even if it really isn’t one.]

I don’t really know who else is in the same bind. It’s still my first day here, I just jumped on a ship looking for a crew. But I’ll take that shot. My brother would be lost without me.

[Literally. Bolin would probably get lost.]

[forthevillage]

[The crack in the ground seals itself back up, smoke wafting across their feet the vanishing. Slowly, the world around them shifts back into that of the deck of the ship.]

Then help me convince the rest of your crew.

[streetferret]

[Even Mako can’t entirely hide an impressed look at the level of control it must have taken to do the illusion without moving. Of course, he assumes it’s like bending; the body is the catalyst.]

That I can do. [First day, as if they’d listen to him. But the smirk that’s tugging at one end of his lips says otherwise.]

Got a ruby I can break?

[He likes his plans, he really does.]

A ruby?

[Itachi frowns, though he sees where Mako is going.] I'm not sure the crew would appreciate me taking something that valuable, nor am I sure it would work as a diversion.

[streetferret]

[He can’t refute that, not when Itachi has experience in this world on his side, he’d know what makes these guys tick.]

There any chance you can make an illusion of your ship being on fire? [Rats leaving a ship; makes sense. Though he’s not sure the extent of the ninja’s prowess.]

... I can. Not all genjutsu requires eye contact.

[And most here would probably not know how to break out of it.]

The only problem is that one like that would effect everyone, including my own crew. Still, I suppose that could still cause most to stop fighting in their efforts to avoid the flames.
