Test Drive for February 2014 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[Asami is such a stick in the mud like Katara is, but she doesn't seem to be rising to the challenge like she does. Toph groans and gets up.]

Fine, I'll do it. But only because I feel like it.

[She doesn't want to be tossed into the sea so she should probably do something here and there to avoid that.]

[Asami is actually surprised Toph agreed to do that, but she smiles back nonetheless]

Thanks. I'll give you a hand as soon as I'm done carrying all this over.

[Arguing with Katara is only fun because Katara argues back. Asami doesn't seem like she's going to do that.

She faces the wood, really, it's the bane of her existence at the moment and walks around it in a circle while she's gone. When she touches a loose one with her foot, she reaches down and picks it up before setting it on top of the pile. It might not be the neatest pile in the world, but at least the lumber will all be together.]

[She didn't really like to argue unless it was absolutely necessary. Or with Mako.

When Asami's done lugging all the supplies over needed, she walks back, stopping a rolling log coming her way with her foot and picks it up. She picks up another one nearby and tosses them in the pile Toph started. They were getting there]

[This kind of thing is much easier to do on land, where Toph can see what she's doing, as it stands, it's her best guess. She continues to do it though, and when she hears the other logs land, she knows Asami is back.

She's methodical about moving, and finally a few paces in any direction, she's pretty sure the wood's all collected.]

[Asami carries over the last couple pieces, giving them one final push to make sure they're secure enough. If anything, she can grab some rope and tie it all together later on.

But as of now, it seems to be holding pretty well]

There. That should do for now. [There's a pause on her end] I know it's hard being on a ship with nothing but wood, but we should be landing on solid ground soon. I think you'll like the next stop.

[stomptheground]

Hmph.

[Toph takes a seat against the side of the ship, stretching out her legs again.]

I don't like boats. At least there's no waterbending, making it go faster. That made me sick.

[It's relaxing enough, bobbing in the waves, but she doesn't like feeling so helpless.]

[At least Asami got Toph to do something else instead of laying around, even if it was for a little bit. So she sits down on the wood floor too]

I think that'll make most people sick. [It was a good thing Korra wasn't doing anything like that at the moment then] But I know they have remedies for that sort of thing. We can get you a few if you really need them.

[stomptheground]

[Toph waves her hand a little dismissively.]

I'm fine. I'm getting used to it, it's not that hard. I got used to flying on the bison, what's a stupid boat?

[She grins at Asami, there's no challenge that Toph is going to admit defeat to.]

I'm going to hold you to that. [She scratches her chin a little] Still, don't be afraid to ask if you change your mind.

[She knows you're Toph and everything, the greatest earthbender, but...]

[stomptheground]

I don't need it! I'm fine here.

[There's a pause.]

So, who are you?

[ex_automobiles598]

[....Yeah. Giving her name out would have been a good idea]

Sorry. I'm Asami. [A beat] You're Toph, aren't you?

[Right? Right?]

[stomptheground]

[She grins and hooks her thumb to her chest.]

I am Toph, the best earthbender ever!

[ex_automobiles598]

I know. Everyone in Republic City knows who you are.

[This was going to come up eventually]

[stomptheground]

Republic City?

[Toph is thinking about it...nope, never heard of it.]

I don't know where that is, but it's a good thing my awesomeness is being recognized!

[She's just the picture of modesty. Or not.]

[She hangs around Korra and Bolin, so Toph's confidence doesn't faze her at all]

It wasn't around during your time. [Or at least when she was this age] This is going to sound really weird, but Avatar Aang and Zuko founded it after the Hundred Year War. I...come from a few years after all of that.

[And by a few years she means a couple decades]

[stomptheground]

You're from the future? That's as weird as being in another world!

[But Toph can't deny that nothing here is familiar, including having to take a boat instead of having a continent to walk on.]

Well, as long as everyone knows how great I am!

You're right, it's just as weird. But it's not a bad thing.

[Because meeting people who were practically considered historical figures was always awesome]

They do. You created the police force there, there's a statue of you at the station.

[Why yes, this might inflate Toph's ego some more]

[stomptheground]

What? I would not! Rules are so boring. That sounds more like Katara's thing. She's the queen of rules and chores.

[She rolls her eyes.]

You should meet her. I'd rather have fun!

[She laughs a little]

It's true, I'm guessing something must have happened to make you change your mind. And...I actually have met Katara.

[Of course she was an old lady now, but still]

I think you have have me mistaken. What kind of fun do like?

[stomptheground]

Yeah right, maybe you're the one that's mistaken. Doesn't sound like me at all!

[Toph brightens up a little, after all fun is her favourite subject.]

Well I really like earthbending and fighting. I also had a lot of fun scamming people.

[She giggles a bit wickedly.]

Traveling is okay I guess, I don't mind it too much. Aang and Sokka are pretty fun to be with.

[Scamming people? Asami is surprised Toph managed to become a Chief, actually. She would suggest pro-bending to her, but that had rules, so Toph probably wouldn't like it]

I'm not a bender buuuut I know how to fight. How about next island, we find some bandits to stop?

[An island full of pirates always meant a lot of trouble]

You should like this then. We're always traveling, for the most part.

[stomptheground]

Stopping bandits sounds great!

[Toph grins and rubs her hands maniacally. Nothing wrong with showing bandits a thing or two.]

It's not so bad, I guess. It just takes getting used to. Wood is useless to me.

It's a deal then.

[She says that with a chuckle]

Yeah, we dobn't have a lot of earth, if any, on board. I could try convincing the captain to let us keep a pile of coal on the ship if you want.

[Or maybe she'd just go gather some up anyway. That's easier in the long run who needs to ask for permission]

That would be good, then I could fight people even if I'm at sea!

[Wouldn't that be a lot of fun too?]
