See you during the application round!
♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?
♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!
♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!
♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!
♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

That does not mean I wish to make a fool of myself.
[He sat up once he could breathe easier, not wanting himself at a disadvantage to anyone. His manners made a reappearance moments later.]
I appreciate the kind words as well; although, were my old teachers here they would have me repeating the fall again and again until I learned to anticipate the roll of the waves.

[She offers him a small smile. Really, one fall was nothing like some of the things Leliana's seen from other people.]
If it's something you're concerned about, you can still practice it. The crew needs to sleep some time. You could do it then, when you know no one else can see if you fail.

I will take that into consideration. [He stood so he could face her fully and give a slight bow, no more than a tilt of the head really.]
I am Altaïr. I do not believe I have had the chance to learn your name yet.
no subject
[But her tone stays light. She's only teasing him a little.]
Ah, yes, I'm still pretty new on this ship and have yet to meet everyone here. My name is Leliana. It's nice to meet you, Altaïr, though I'm sure you wish it was under better circumstances? Alas, life does not always grant us such.
[However, the small smile stays. Not laughing at him, but letting him know that it wasn't that serious.]

Not knowing how exactly to respond, especially because he didn't want anyone to know what he was up to, he let it go.]
It has been my experience that life finds pleasure in our sufferings. [Or maybe it is just that he bore the brunt of the world's displeasure.] I believe if I hadn't found myself stolen away from my world, there would have been another form of chaos to take a hold.

[But the mention of suffering turns her serious as well. Even in her past, she had enjoyed the game, not suffering or torture. If killing had to be done, it had to be quick and as clean as possible. Of course, suffering could be from many different sources. She became curious where his had come from. If it had been emotional, or physical... or both.]
Surely you had help against your sufferings. Someone to help pull you through it; from friends or family? We may not always see why we go through the troubles that we do... but it builds us and helps make us who we are today. Strength comes from surviving.

As for someone to help: Malik would have been the closest out of everyone, the other man had accepted him back once he'd seen the error of his ways, and had returned to Masyaf to help him confront Al Mualim. It was not something he'd be likely to forget. Not that he'd ever admit that to the other man; being called a foolish novice was not something he wanted.]
The troubles I went through were of my own making. It was not strength I gained from the experience, merely clarity of the mind. [And strength, doubts, renewed purpose, kindness, compassion, etc. But he'd never admit to any of it.]

[She looked over her crewmate, wondering what it was that he hadn't said. It was quite obvious to her that this was personal to him, and he didn't seem the type to just spill all his secrets to whoever would listen. If she wanted to know more, she would have to work for it... or stay patient. Surely their travels together would bring the whole crew closer.]
Even clarity of the mind is a strength. You can learn from the past.

Her lack of prying even more so. He doubted that one who had such a mastery of words wouldn't be able to tell he wanted to speak no more on the subject, and while her ease in reading him was unnerving it wasn't something he would protest at the moment.]
Learn from what was before to better shape what will be. We learn a similar lesson in my land.

[But she knows that look. Even though she just met the guy, she had seen it on others before. So she'll drop it for now... they'll have plenty of time to talk later now that they were part of the same crew.]
Yes. These lessons, the lessons of the past and of life, they seem to be very similar no matter where we go. Or what world we find ourselves in. It's a little bit comforting. We find ourselves stuck here, with only one clue on how to get back to our homes, yet the basics of living remain.
