Test Drive for February 2014 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for [community profile] high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

See you during the application round!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[Since he's part of the welcome committee Dave spends a lot of time on Empieza when new people start showing up. Usually he's more active during the day, but he sticks around during the night too. He was equally confused when he first arrived and he doesn't mind explaining this place to people, particularly if they end up deciding to join his crew. He can't help but commiserate with the latest newcomer. Dave isn't sure exactly what Thrash is, but he looks about as confused as most people when they arrive, so he walks up to the guy.]

They say Davy Jones brought us here. [He pauses for a moment, so as not to overwhelm the newcomer with too much information at once.] I never saw the guy, but apparently he's really powerful. He's brought people from all kinds of different worlds here. He can even bring back the dead.

[Dave raises his hands in a pacifying gesture and does his best not to make a sarcastic remark about this guy's use of the word "seamen". Because that word is just begging to be part of a perverse joke.]

Last thing on my mind, bro. I'm just trying to help. Ask me anything you want. I'm a fountain of useful information just waiting to be tapped.

[The shark guy has good reflexes at least. He seems like he'd be a tough fighter and Dave is always looking to add more of those to his crew. This guy may be a prickly customer, but Dave can handle it. He can handle almost anyone.]

Rare creatures dealer? You think I'm trying to catch you?

[He doesn't understand where the shark guy is getting these ideas from. Dave doesn't think he looks like any of those things. Most people aren't even intimidated by him, so why is this guy? Maybe it's the shades. Some people get intimidated by the shades.]

No, dude. Listen. I'm just like you. I got dumped here in the middle of town square without a clue about where I was or what was going on. Then some Navy guys attacked me. I guess they think all new people are enemies since a lot of the people who show up here become pirates, but sometimes Davy Jones brings people here who don't have any fighting skills, so I usually come back every month to make sure the Navy doesn't slaughter anyone who can't defend themselves.

Not that you're one of them. I can tell just by looking at you that you totally kick ass. So, for a capable guy like you, I'm just offering information.

I'm not saying all pirates are great. Some of them are assholes. A lot of the native pirates are jerks and all pirates are pretty much in conflict with each other unless you have an alliance with someone else's crew.

[Dave has a few alliances, but he'll save that information for later. There's no point in bragging about his ties with captains that the shark dude has never heard of.]

The thing is, no one knows exactly where we are, or even when we are. New Years was just a few months ago and no one even knew which year we were celebrating. The locals don't talk to outsiders much.

You can get a map from the Backwater Brig, but I'm warning you the islands move around. They never stay in one place too long. The map is enchanted to show their true location. All you can really count on here is that Isla Empieza stays near the middle of the map, the black fortress is to the east, and then there's turtle island and the kracken's nest in the south. No matter how far you sail out you can always get back to Empieza in a day or two. Sounds fuckin' creepy, right?

No, I... [He would've gone on to say that he was totally serious, but then the shark dude interrupted him. No big deal. Dave doesn't blame him for being upset about being brought here. It sounds like he's been in a similar situation before though.] Again?

[Dave would've liked to ask more about it, but he isn't going to bother someone so surly. He just stands still and allows the shark guy to leave. Maybe after he's calmed down they can talk more?]
