Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

Mattie blinked up at the familiar voice, relief coloring his expression before his shoulders slumped at the words. He pushed himself to his feet and shoved hands into hoodie pockets. "It's just me," his whispered reply wouldn't disturb anything. As always.

That had sounded like a voice... He blinked, trying to see who had spoken before catching sight of Matthew out of the corner of his eye. Jumping a little, he turned to look at him straight on. "Al-" No, not Alfred, the idiot would have been declaring himself the hero already. He quickly tried to hide his slip-up. "Ah, Matthew. There you are. I didn't see you."

Just as usual. His sour expression was there for all of a minute while Arthur struggled for the right name. But then he came up with it, and Matthew could never stay made at him, so he smiled. If a bit strained. "I didn't mean to get in the way."

Arthur felt bad for the mistake, he really did, and told himself he would make up for it eventually. "No, no, it's my fault for not looking where I was going. I don't suppose you know anything about this place."

The strain faded, leaving just a smile behind at the apology. Or what worked for one well enough. Mattie looked around again, taking a moment to try and figure out anything. Anything at all about the place he'd just woken up in so he could help Arthur.

And came up blank. "No...I'm sorry. I just woke up right before you walked up." And tripped, but he didn't say that.

"Then it seems we're in the same boat, so to speak," Arthur said with a sigh, running a hand through his hair. "I only just arrived an hour or so ago as well."

Equal footing for the first time in history. Matthew turned back to blink at him in surprise, and some dismay. "What should we do?"

Well, partially. Arthur still had more experience with ships, and from what he'd heard it sounded like that would be coming in handy very soon. "From the looks of things? Get ourselves a ship."

He did his best to squash the unease, deciding to place his faith in Arthur. Where it belonged, really. Even if he was his own country now, he was still part of England. And so far Arthur hadn't hinted that he didn't want him to come along, so that was a good sign. "With what money?"

"Well that we'll just have to figure out. Or, for that matter, work around." Really, the sight of such lovely ships around them brought back memories, and possibly a few habits along with them.

Mattie nodded. He won't be too surprised when certain old habits appear with Arthur, though his real familiarity with them were through stories. "Might as well get started...if you want to."

"Gather information, supplies and figure out a heading for once we get out to see," he said, tossing out the obvious things. Obvious to him at least. "And likely a few more crew. Two aren't enough to man a decently sized ship."

"I can work on gathering information." Just by listening. No one noticed him anyway, so he could just find a corner to sit at in a pub and let information flow in. He wasn't as good at picking out who would be useful on a ship, and he wasn't sure what supplies they'd need that would be best kept onboard. A heading...that would come with information, most likely.

"Good lad. I'll come find... hm, perhaps you'd best come find me actually, when you have something useful," Arthur said, taking how hard it was to spot the younger nation sometimes into account.

Well it was something. He nodded, accepting the 'suggestion' anyway. If Arthur went looking for him (when did that ever happen?) he'd be looking for a while. Even if Matthew was standing right in front of him.

"Alright Arthur. I'll find you later."

"Keep yourself safe until then, and don't go following strangers," he said, clapping a hand on Matthew's shoulder. A grown man, yes, but Arthur worried those good manners might make him too trusting. "I'll see you later then."

Mattie finally smiled warmly at the care, resolve firming. "They won't see me. You keep safe too." He'd make sure he wasn't seen. He wouldn't let Arthur down. He turned to head off towards a likely looking spot, raising a hand in a wave back at Arthur.

Waving back while he still had his eyes on the other nation, Arthur turned to go find a place for supplies. At least the company was pleasant.
