♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

(Town Square):

[A certain red-haired man is currently sitting by the fountains, arms crossed and whining to himself.]

Ah, maaaaaan. What a crock this is. You'd think a guy can could just catch a break now and then. All I wanted to do we get drunk in my armory, take a few potshots in the range to let off steam, and pass out in the hold.

Now I'm stuck in this tropical shit-hole, with no way to contact home. I don't even think these primitive jokers know what a combustion engine is. How the hell am I suppose to get off this rock?

(Lost at Sea):

[Any port in a storm, as they say. Gene was just glad that someone had bothered to haul him out of the sea, since his first foray into sailing seems to have ended with his ship dashed on a high reef.

He gasped for air, hacking up water as he rolled around on the deck.]

Guh! Koff! Gaaaah! Uh...uh...thank you...so much. You have...no idea...how timely a save that was. I've been treadin' water for hours, now.

[Gan Ning is slouched nearby, trying to wring the water out of his pants without taking them off. It's not very effective]

Yeah, well, drownin' ain't the way anybody should go. Ugh, even my bells are full of water now!

[Gene groggily sits up, shaking some water out of his hair. He stops dead, when he sees the guy.]

...Why are you wearing curtains?

Huh? [stares at him. Excuse you his pants are just poofy] I'm not wearing curtains! The hell are you talkin' about?

Those really look like curtains, those clothes you're wearing. Like you just pulled them down and cut a pattern out. Is that the style, where you're from?

[stands up and shakes out his pants to show them off. He likes his gold turtle...ish things.]

Hey, I'll have you know that this is some damn fine embroidery! I mean, sure, it ain't like what the ruling family wears, but a pirate like me don't have the fancy wardrobes to keep piles of embroidered silks like theirs, yanno!

[He finally stands up, looking for something to dry himself off with.]

Embroidered silk? Embroidered silk? What kind of idiot prances around in that? Where I'm from, you'd get robbed for wearing stuff like that.

[sets his hands on his hips with such huffy force that it makes the four giant bells on his belt ring]

It's pretty damn normal where I come from, all right?! Just 'cause I don't look like I've been dragged by a horse through mud doesn't mean I ain't the worst pirate you've ever met. So don't get on my bad side, guy!

I'm not tryin' to, it just seems like an odd style of dress. Even the pirates back home usually use a polymer mix that keeps them relatively well-armored, but light.

It ain't odd for the Han, okay? [thumps his chest proudly] Besides, I don't need armor! I like to move light over the battlefield, y'know what I mean?

Anyway, the hell were you doin' floatin' out there all by yourself? You'd be dead if we didn't happen by.

That's all fine and good on the ocean like this, with melee weapon and wooden boats. Not much good against a gun from my era.

Pretty much what you said. Floating. Wrecked my ship on a high reef. Gene Starwind's the name.

Yeah, yeah. [not gonna argue that]

Gan Ning - I'm captain of this ship. Lost yours, huh? That sucks.

Yeah, but even that was a major downgrade, compared to sailing the stars.

.....no kidding.

[he's heard rumors that some people around here can make that claim.]

You serious? Not in the oh-I'm-some-kinda-mystic I-totally-walk-the-heavens way?

No, as in having the technology to get in a closed "ship" and leave the surface of the planet to venture out in that great, dark abyss.

[shakes his head like that's the craziest damn thing he's ever heard]

Man, I don't even know...

It's a lot of stuff that requires context that I'm too exhausted to give, right now.

Yeah, I don't think I wanna try to wrap my brain around it right now, either. Guess in the meantime you'll just have to get used to the sea instead of the stars.

It really sucks. I can't believe people ever traveled this slowly.

[SNORTS]

And I can't believe people took gunpowder and invented a way to make weapons out of it, but there it is. Ya deal with it if ya wanna survive.

Heard there's a lady who sells a lot interesting stuff. Might be able to score me some ammo, if I'm lucky.

Oh, yeah! Her. She's pretty great! Found me a bow from my era that even had the Wu tiger on it, it was pretty sweet. She can find anything.

We're headed back to Empieza anyway, we can drop ya off and let ya go see her in person.
