♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[He rubs the back of his head for a minute, trying to think up what to do. For the time being, he simply hoists her up to sit on his shoulders.]

Well, I guess I'll have to find you a new means of gettin' around, then. This thing is busted.

[witcraft]

It was necessary for the sake of my village. It's been a lot harder to deal with since I arrived here, though.

Eh? You'd do that? [she's surprised at being hoisted up so suddenly — and, indeed, if he were a bit less tall-dark-and-grumpy she might suspect him of liking her (she's eleven, forgive her) — but in the end she settles quite comfortably on his shoulder; he reminds her of wolfram, her butler] Wait, what's your name?

I can take care of myself! I just... can't walk. [HUFFS, folding her arms] They're two different things!

Anyway, my name is Sieglinde... Sieglinde Sullivan. Everyone called me Master Sullivan at home, but you don't have to. [how... considerate]

See, last time I checked, movement is needed to survive. Unless you intend to ambush lizards as they run by you. Certainly not gonna' get kindness from the locals.

Even if I did, I wouldn't. German, then.

[witcraft]

[stubbornly] I-I can move, too! I bet I could have made it to town in a few hours. [not that she would have known which direction to crawl toward]

Eh, how did you know? You don't look German. Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

Humans aren't meant to crawl after infancy. No efficiency to it.

I know a German name, when I hear one. Some nationalities have naming conventions that really jump out at you. Like me. Akira is a very common japanese name.

Japan... hmmm... [that. that country is completely foreign to her, particularly since her knowledge is several centuries out of date and generally specific to one topic]

Where is that relative to Germany? Somewhere to the south?

Gotta' go east about a bazillion miles, through a bunch of European countries, through Russia and China, and across a small stretch of ocean. Little nation of islands.

[witcraft]

Oh, I know where Russia and China are! [...roughly. she probably imagines russia a lot bigger than it is] So it's east of China?

Are they islands like this one? [picking some twigs out of her sleeves — it's a shame, she's quite fond of this dress]

Bit bigger than just this island, they're all really close together.

[witcraft]

Oh, I see. [she's imagining wooden bridges connecting them together, so no, not really] That sounds convenient.

Were you a peasant in Japan, Akira? You don't really seem like a landowner. [ouch...]

[alwaysgrumpy]

Peasant? The hell? What year are you from?

[witcraft]

Um... isn't it 1889?

I'm from 2011, thereabouts. We've got people from all over time and space, around here.

[witcraft]

Eh, 2011...? [please hold, doing math]

That's... a hundred... um, a hundred and twenty-two years ahead...? [??????] Are you sure?!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure.

That's kind of hard to believe... [...] Maybe the villagers haven't been keeping track of the years correctly...

I mean, you look normal to me. I always imagined that someone who came from the future would look really weird.

Yellow eyes and pointy ears isn't weird enough?

[witcraft]

Huh? I didn't notice... [shifting her weight so she can get a better look at him; she hadn't looked at him that closely when she was preoccupied in ridding herself of leaves]

Well, the color of your eyes doesn't really matter — [coming from a world where no one ever comments on the fact that the butler has red eyes...] — but you're right, your ears are really pointy! [she's tempted... to pull on them, but even she's not that rude] You're not a forest fairy, are you? You're a bit too big to be a forest fairy.

Sorry. I'm not quite human, but you're still off the mark.
