Test Drive for July 2014 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for [community profile] high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

See you during the application round!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

Trust me when I say uneven roads would be the least of your worries.

[Finding treasure was rarely a simple job. Chances are there could be traps or enemies waiting for them. Or both. Probably both.

It's a bit hard for Rainier to get into the appropriate position to carry Sieglinde thanks to having no legs, but she does figure it out. Lowering her body to the ground, she squishes her tail-like lower body against the ground and turns her back to her.]

Alright, now just wrap your arms around me. Watch your hands, though. I have sensitive skin.

[...well her body IS mostly water.]

[sieglinde admittedly has to take a moment to figure out what part of rainier's body isn't skin — but in the end she assumes that the "cloak" around her shoulders should be alright to touch, and tentatively wraps her arms around that. she's super light, at least!!]

Is this okay?

[Touching her skin was fine, just not too roughly. But with a vague response like that confusion was to be expected. Honestly you'd think she'd learn to be more specific after dealing with Barbara.]

It's fine. Now just wrap your legs around me to I can hold onto them.

Okay! [sieglinde does this pretty casually for a girl from the 1800s — she's fairly used to being carted around, so the position doesn't really matter to her]

I don't know if this is a weird question to ask... but, Rainier, are those things on top of your head your ears? Or your hair?

[And likewise, Rainier does as expected as wraps her webbed fingers around the girl's knees. Now she should be fairly secure.

The question does catch her off guard, but it's not as if she takes any offense to it.]

They're actually tentacles. We Sea Angels use them to feed on prey, typically.

...oh.

[THAT'S AWKWARD] W-Well, I thought they looked cute.
tombuoyant: (14)

this went south fast

[personal profile] tombuoyant 2014-06-27 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I...see.

[OOPS...]

...you can touch them, if you like.
witcraft: (10)

...good. good

[personal profile] witcraft 2014-06-27 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, really?! [excited despite herself because... they're still cute. they look like rabbit ears, in all honesty]

They won't poison me or anything? It won't hurt you?

[personal profile] tombuoyant 2014-06-27 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, this girl sure is excitable. Not that that's a bad thing. At least the trip won't be boring.]

Yes, they're safe to touch.

[And if Sieglinde does, she'll notice that they feel a bit...strange. As expected they're cool to the touch, but the skin itself feels thicker than a human's. The texture is smoother too, but all in all it's not that different from a human's. The tentacles are definitely squishy, though, so it's not hard to believe there's a good chunk of water that makes up her body.]

[having lived in a forest village all her life, sieglinde's never so much as seen jellyfish before, much less touched anything this gelatinous, so rainier will have to put up with her (thankfully gentle) squishing and prodding for quite some time]

Ooh, this is weird... bunny ears are silkier, but this is... soft? I'm not sure how to describe it...
tombuoyant: (13)

[personal profile] tombuoyant 2014-06-27 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thankfully Rainier does seem to be a good sport, so she doesn't really object to all the poking and prodding. Her expression stays calm for most of it, but by the end she's a bit annoyed and it shows. Though it's hard to get mad at her, for some reason.]

...you actually thought they'd feel like rabbit ears? [There's some surprise there, but she sounds amused.] You're a strange girl.
witcraft: (12)

[personal profile] witcraft 2014-06-27 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I wasn't sure what else to expect... [clearing her throat in a vain attempt to restore her dignity as she straightens herself on rainier's back and... wills herself to stop touching the squishy...]

Sorry... I won't do that again. [peering into the distance curiously] By the way, do you know where we're going? Or are you just going in a random direction?

It's not like I minded all that much. Strange isn't always a bad thing, you know.

[Actually, it was kinda cute. Like having a little sister around. Still, they did have a job to do. No doubt the captain would have a fit if they didn't accomplish anything today. Rainier probably would too. It really has been so long since she went out on a hunt like this.]

I have a rough idea. The map we received wasn't the best, but I hardly need one in the first place. I come from a long line of treasure hunters; this is just second nature to me.
witcraft: (08)

[personal profile] witcraft 2014-06-27 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? What kinds of treasure have you seen before?

I come from a long line of witches — [you know, just throwing that out there, in case anyone forgot] — but I've never really seen treasure before. I always imagine, like, pretty crystals, or treasure chests full of gold, like in storybooks.

[personal profile] tombuoyant 2014-06-27 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Congrats, Sieglinde. You actually made Rainier smile. Talking about things like this always fills her chest with a sense of pride. And then there's all the memories.]

You're not wrong. There's lots of treasure to be found. Gold, silver, gems of all kinds, and exotic artifacts. The artifacts can be just about anything, but they're usually the rarest. Of course I have a preference for gems, myself. They're easier to carry around than a sword or a set of armor. Plus they're a lot nicer to look at.
