See you during the application round!
♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?
♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!
♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!
♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!
♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!
♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

It makes her feel normal. Like there's not something actually wrong with her.
So what if she can't do more than just flirt? It's a break from the mess everything's been lately.]
Friend of mine said she'd bring me luck.
[...Not that Gambit was really a friend. But it was complicated. That made it sound easy.]
Maybe he wasn' so wrong after all.
I'm Rogue.

Ringabel, at your service. Your knight in shining armor, your shield, your song, your healing spell. Whatever you may need, that's the only name you'll need to call.
[This is literally the farthest he's gotten without a "shut up, Ringabel" in months, perhaps even more than a year. It's wonderful and he couldn't ask for a more lovely conversation partner. Well, save for the one who'd be telling him to shut up, but her perfect, angelic face has yet to be seen in this world.]

[So what if most of the guys she liked either tried to kill her or she thought tried to kill her.
This one? Hasn't. So she can enjoy this for all it's worth.]
It's certainly a pleasure.

[He takes his seat again and surreptitious scoots the chair even closer.]
And what a shame it is that so many ladies I've met in this place come from worlds that are severely lacking in chivalrous gentlemen. I happen to have several suits of shining armor to suit whatever occasion arises, so perhaps I can make up for that.

It's the sort of thing that's gone out of style where I'm from.
Not that we don' have some good guys, but... not quite like you.

[He's seen one too many of himself at this point. It sort of puts a damper on one's ego.]
But enough about me. I'm far more interested in hearing about you.
[He finds his coffee again and leans forward to listen. To his credit, he looks (and is!) genuinely interested in hearing what she has to say, despite how ridiculous he's sounding about it.]

I'm nothin' too special.
[Now that? That was a bold-faced lie.
"Special" was what the Xavier Institute was all about.]
Born an' raised in Mississippi, go t' school in upstate New York. 'S about all there is t' tell.

[He takes a sip of his coffee and frowns. More names of places he doesn't recognize. There truly are more worlds than anyone could ever count.]
No need to be so modest! After all, I haven't been to either of those places or the world where you'd find them, so that alone would be a wondrous tale for me. Of course, if you don't wish to...?
[He cocks his head to the side, trying to prompt her.]

She'll either freak him out or give him the idea to use her for something. That's just how her life goes.]
I live in a boarding house. Basically a lot of people my age with a few adults we aren't related to looking out for us. So we can all attend the same school, live together, things like that.
We call it the Xavier Institute.

[Young ladies far from home with minimal adult supervision. Living together, attending school together, possibly...no, no, Ringabel, focus.]
So you're a scholar, then! I thought you had quite an air of intelligence about you and it seems I was right!
[He's not exactly the best at guessing professions. The whole thing where he failed to properly recognize a ninja while she was crawling on the walls is best not spoken of.]

[That's Jean. Or Kitty. Not that she doesn't like school or doesn't consider herself smart, but... Those are the two who are really good at academics.]
Where I'm from, pretty much everyone goes t' school 'til they're eighteen. Most keep goin' after that.
