Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[He raises the sheathed Mugenjin with one hand, idly blocking her first strike.]

Oh ho? Deceptive power, for a young girl.

[His feet carry him backward as she continues to come at him. The assholish smile still seems to remain on his face.]

A bit undisciplined, but there's something to be said for raw ferocity.

East Blue? You're from where I'm from! That's so cool! [he doesn't often meet people here he doesn't already know] Yeah, it's a different world. It's cuz of that ghost guy, but don't worry, we're going to send him flying. Hey wanna come sail with me?

[since he wants to know about a part of the East Blue he doesn't know and she was pretty cool looking]

Ahh too bad! But you know you fight pretty well for someone whose got a big wound.

[he's kind of impressed]

A zombie is a dead person whose not dead but has shadows... and I'm not alone I just accidentally got on the wrong ship. [he sits cross legged on the railing and folds his arms] What are you going to do now?

[this man standing in place of a boy is light-years beyond any of the adults in their dojo, already. He doesn't have to prove it, but he knows how hard Kuina is going to try to even budge him a little, so he'll meet her strikes with counter-attacks of his own, parries and swings to keep her from getting inside his reach. There's very little hint of any formal training in Zoro's moves anymore, it's much harsher and more visceral to reflect his experience.

At one point he meets her swing with a sideways block that allows her to get close, so they can look each other in the eye across crossed blades]

How did I always fail to see that move? You used it so much.

One adapts, right? [He points out the scar on Luffy's chest.] You're no stranger to burn scars, yourself. I recognize them quite well.

[For a moment he looks back at the rest of the ship.]

Hm...I suppose we'll take what's of use and leave the rest for the Navy to find. It'll make a nice story.

[meatthefuture]

Yeah. I'm not afraid of fire. [he knows what the old guy is talking about but it's weird because he doesn't even remember it much. But he knows what it means so it doesn't matter]

You can take it if you want. [he doesn't need any of it.] The navy here has some pretty tough guys on it.

[though he's not sure if that sort of thing matters to this guy or not... but not everyone knows about the Navy or how strong they can be so he might as well give him a heads up]

[ WHOA. Okay now, you're going too fast. A different world? Ghost guy? Go sailing? ]

We're in a different world? [ Yeah, she'll focus on that one for now. ]

Yep! Some stuff is kinda the same but a lot of it is different. It's not as bad as the Grand Line but it's a lot weirder than the East Blue. You'll see a lot of amazing stuff! shishishishi There's an island completely made out of candy! But no meat mountain yet.

[he's still holding out hope]

I appreciate that, since I was going to take it anyway. I hardly need permission.

[ Whoa. Dang, Zoro, she knew you'd be good, but... ]

Hey! [ ...but she was proud of that move, dammit!

She slides her katana off of his, stepping back to get a little bit of distance.

She feels like she's the gauge to show just how much Zoro's improved. And he's improved a lot. Her ego's never going to be the same, you know. ] You've fought a lot of skilled swordsmen, haven't you? That's your experience talking.

[The Sun isn't far away, but Rogue's taken the newbie out on the Little Dipper for a bit of a sailing lesson. She's... picked up... more than her share of knowledge about sailing. Unfortunately, she can't pass it on quite as easily.

And, hey, she could use a little time off from the noise of the main crew.

So while she's let him have the wheel, she's taken to minding the sailboat's rigging.]

It takes time t' respond. Ain' like a car. Wind's not hard right now, so you don' have t' move hard. Take it slower, an' she won' jerk as much.

...What th' Hell you been up to?

[This guy's as bad as Bobby. Ice everywhere.

And the Southern girl? Does not look impressed. Her arms are crossed in front of her, and her eyes (accented in kohl, now, rather than her former purple eyeshadow) are narrowed.

She's waiting for an explanation, please and thank you.]

[he nods] Go ahead.

[a splashing nearby draws his attention and he spots a guy flailing toward the surface at some distance. Luffy stretches out his arm and sets the guy on a bit of planking before pulling his arm back to himself with an elastic snap]

Did you find out anything interesting?

The Grand Line? You've been there? [ Kuina's head stories about that place, and even if they're exaggerated, that still seems like an accomplishment.

...No, she's getting distracted- ] Wait, but if we're in a different world, how are we going to get back home? [ It's not like you can sail to a new world, after all. ]

...What was the point behind saving this man?

[ Hey now, she's plenty disciplined! She's skilled enough to take out normal adults, at any rate. Even if it's pretty clear this guy isn't a "normal" anything. ] Do you always talk when you fight? [ She follows that up with a thrust instead - to see how he'll handle this one. ]

Yeah! We're in the New World now. It's even weirder. We even found this huge dragon and a guy that can talk in farts.

[he puts his hands behind his head]

We gotta find the shards, I guess. Of the jewel thingy. But sometimes people go home without that--and sometimes even if they go home they come back. But don't worry about it. You're going to love my crew. Sanji's the best cook in the seas and Zoro's a swordsman, so maybe you'll have lots of stuff to talk about.

[ No, she's not dead. She's pretty sure she's not, anyway.


She pinches an arm just to make sure. Okay, no, she felt that. ]

I don't think we're dead.

[ Okay, okay, that last name causes her to stop completely to process what he just said. ]

Wait, did you say Zoro? [ This guy said he's from East Blue, and that common bond was enough for him to ask her to join him, so... ] Roronoa Zoro?

I killed the crew for a reason...Though I suppose leaving one survivor can make for a better testimonial.

I enjoy a good bit of conversation with my exercise. You'd be surprised how useful a psychological weapon the right words can be.

[His hand lashes out, catching her thrust between his fingers.]

Is this really all that you're capable of? This isn't even exercise, this is play.

A few. The Grand Line is unforgiving. You have to keep getting stronger or you die. [he raises the sword, its tip pointed straight at her, but his posture relaxed] And it's not just a fancy saying, I mean it. I almost died at least three times in the first year alone.
