Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[There is a very strange-looking man in the town square, with a green mohawk up to here and magenta feathers out to there, but what's really strange about him is the way he's acting. He's got a piece of paper in his hands, freshly torn off the wall - it must be a wanted poster, since there are more of them tacked up to the same wall. Moreover, he's goggling at it, gaping, maybe even trembling a little as he beholds the poster.]

N-n-n-no...no way! Aaaaaaaaaah if he's here how am I ever going to face him? I'm supposed to be...! But no. No, maybe this is a joke. But what is this number? He's supposed to be worth four hundred million beli! This has to be a joke!

B

[Your fault for letting this guy onboard your ship.]

Oi! You don't know how to divvy up treasure properly. Everybody gets a share, you know, and if I don't get mine, you ain't gonna be the one making the decisions next time.

[thatched]

[just sort of...eyes him]

Are you doing okay there, mate?

[chicken_kun]

[squishes the poster in his fist and hides it behind his back. And then immediately changes his mind and smooths it out reverently, cursing himself for wrinkling it.]

Fine! Everything's fine, nope. What's it to you, old man?

[thatched]

[everything isn't fine but Thatch finds himself less inclined to care]

Who the hell are you calling old, punk?

[chicken_kun]

Are ya deaf? You, ya geezer!

[gets all right up in Thatch's face, although you know he does have to respect the hair]

Got something to say to me? Huh? Huh?

[thatched]

[respect and respect alike. Thatch regards the greenie, and he could make something of it but....it's really not worth getting into exactly]

Nah, you're alright, kid. [because it works both ways] Want to get a drink?

Shanoa | Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

A: Town Square!

[One of the new arrivals is a young woman and she looks quite confused. She shouldn't be here. She needed to find someone back in her own world and she couldn't do that from here. But instead of getting angry or upset, she calmly looks at her journal before going off to find someone who can help her answer some questions.]

B: Navy Battle!

[The Navy is attacking the ship and Shanoa is helping to fend them off. She can be found fighting with a scythe that she conjured from one of the glyphs on her shoulders. Every now and then she will cast some kind of fire or ice spell as the attacking naval men, the larger glyph on her back glowing when she does so.]

C: Journal Post!

[Voice post]

Is it really that important to smile? Some of my crew mates seem to think so and are quite determine to make me smile.

[She doesn't sound annoyed though. In fact, she is genuinely confused as to why people want her to smile.]

I don't really see the point in it. It doesn't affect how I do my chores or anything like that.

[chicken_kun]

Huh? Uh.

[peering at him. Who's this weirdo anyway?]

If you're buying. I ain't got a beli on me.

[thatched]

Of course you don't. [but he sounds cheerful enough] My treat.

[and he leads the way to the bar] So who was it you were freaking out about, Ferny? [because your hair is awesome and should be acknowledged but he's not obliged to compliment you]

It isn't a joke. The government seems more concerned with keeping our existence quiet rather than hunt us down. I suppose it's simpler for them that way.

[You recognize that voice, don't you, Birdy-kun?]

[chicken_kun]

Oi! The name's Bartolomeo, or captain maybe. [although no sign of the Barto Club around here so...posturing it is.] None'a your business.

[as he gently and lovingly folds the wanted poster and sticks it in a pocket.]

...though I guess if I wanted information. What do you know about the Straw Hat Pirates?

[chicken_kun]

[Oh he does. HE SO DOES.

Bartolomeo freezes, and then slooooooowly turns around.

And then goes 1000% sparkles.]

R-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-robin-senpai!!!!! Uwaaaaaaaaaa.....

[excuse him, he'll be back to reality in a moment]

[thatched]

[ha. It'd be a cold day in hell before he called you either.]

Not much. [and normally he's not one to defend them because their captain drives him a little loopy but he's a good kid and they're connected via Ace so] A strong bunch of rookies, so I've heard. Their captain is aiming to be next Pirate King, though you could walk down the street and trip over those who'd say the same thing. [he scratches his beard] Still I'd say he has more potential than most.

[thetruehistorian]

[Robin smiles a little, and finds herself a nice spot nearby to sit and cross one leg over the other while he... takes care of himself. She'll wait.]

[chicken_kun]

[okay, he's better. Deep breath. Deep, cleansing breath.]

What's that you said? The government's not hunting us down, here? N-not that I have any right comparing myself to any of you, but...

C [voice]

Hell yeah 's important t' smile! Doin' shit's more fun when yer smilin'!

[chicken_kun]

Heh. Potential.

[he'll all cool and aloof for like two seconds, and then he snaps and rounds on Thatch, poking him in the chest.]

Straw Hat Luffy's got more than just potential, you hear me? He's going to be the Pirate King, and anyone who says otherwise is gonna have to take it up with me. You got it?

[thatched]

[oh his god a fan. Spare him. Please. He scowls at the poking and knocks Barty's hand away]

Aye well I'd rather see him get it than anyone. [which is as much a concession as he'll make as Ace was always the better candidate in his mind. Unfortunately...]

[chicken_kun]

[settles for that much. Better than most. He brushes down his fluffy jacket and resumes striding off all confident-like. At least he knows how to spot a tavern at twenty paces.]

So it sounds to me like you're from the same world, then, if you know what it means to be Pirate King. Although, of course the great Luffy would want to be king of any world.

Oh, they do, just not as aggressively. I suspect we have a bit of protection, as it were, though our benefactor would prefer we not acknowledge the gesture.

You'll be needing a ship, I presume?

Make things more fun? I thought people play games for fun.

[At least that's what Serge told her back on her world.]

[he's surprised the tavern doesn't spot him at twenty paces and board up]

What it means to be Pirate King? [follows along hands in pockets] That depends on who you ask. From any angle it means a hell of a love of trouble.

Games're funner'n chores, that's for damn sure. But I mean if yer scowlin' all the time it makes shit worse, catch me?

Ugh, wimps. They've totally underestimated Luffy-senpai, it's stupid.

...uh. Huh. Yeah, I guess I will, won't I? I mean, my crew's not here at all, that I can tell, so I'm all...

[wait. WAIT.

Unless I can. [gulp] J-join the Straw Hats?

Yeah, yeah, I know, that's not what I mean. The guys I shook down earlier didn't even know what a Pirate King was, they'd never heard of any of it.

[shhh he spent all morning throttling civilians on Empieza asking about Luffy. No big deal.]
