Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[gets all right up in Thatch's face, although you know he does have to respect the hair]

[respect and respect alike. Thatch regards the greenie, and he could make something of it but....it's really not worth getting into exactly]

Nah, you're alright, kid. [because it works both ways] Want to get a drink?

Huh? Uh.

[peering at him. Who's this weirdo anyway?]

If you're buying. I ain't got a beli on me.

Of course you don't. [but he sounds cheerful enough] My treat.

[and he leads the way to the bar] So who was it you were freaking out about, Ferny? [because your hair is awesome and should be acknowledged but he's not obliged to compliment you]

Oi! The name's Bartolomeo, or captain maybe. [although no sign of the Barto Club around here so...posturing it is.] None'a your business.

[as he gently and lovingly folds the wanted poster and sticks it in a pocket.]

...though I guess if I wanted information. What do you know about the Straw Hat Pirates?

[thatched]

[ha. It'd be a cold day in hell before he called you either.]

Not much. [and normally he's not one to defend them because their captain drives him a little loopy but he's a good kid and they're connected via Ace so] A strong bunch of rookies, so I've heard. Their captain is aiming to be next Pirate King, though you could walk down the street and trip over those who'd say the same thing. [he scratches his beard] Still I'd say he has more potential than most.

[chicken_kun]

Heh. Potential.

[he'll all cool and aloof for like two seconds, and then he snaps and rounds on Thatch, poking him in the chest.]

Straw Hat Luffy's got more than just potential, you hear me? He's going to be the Pirate King, and anyone who says otherwise is gonna have to take it up with me. You got it?

[thatched]

[oh his god a fan. Spare him. Please. He scowls at the poking and knocks Barty's hand away]

Aye well I'd rather see him get it than anyone. [which is as much a concession as he'll make as Ace was always the better candidate in his mind. Unfortunately...]

[chicken_kun]

[settles for that much. Better than most. He brushes down his fluffy jacket and resumes striding off all confident-like. At least he knows how to spot a tavern at twenty paces.]

So it sounds to me like you're from the same world, then, if you know what it means to be Pirate King. Although, of course the great Luffy would want to be king of any world.

[thatched]

[he's surprised the tavern doesn't spot him at twenty paces and board up]

What it means to be Pirate King? [follows along hands in pockets] That depends on who you ask. From any angle it means a hell of a love of trouble.

Yeah, yeah, I know, that's not what I mean. The guys I shook down earlier didn't even know what a Pirate King was, they'd never heard of any of it.

[shhh he spent all morning throttling civilians on Empieza asking about Luffy. No big deal.]

[thatched]

Oh that. [well that was hardly interesting. He waves a hand] Different world, mate. Though I guess you know that by now. From what I understand he's not interested in it.

[chicken_kun]

No? Huh.

[uwaahh there's still so much to learn about Luffy and his greatness! Barty will just file that away for later]

Yeah, yeah, I got the different world bullshit. Whatever, just means this one's ripe for adventure.

[thatched]

Yeah it is that. It's not a bad little world. A little like home. Kind of like the Grand Line all over in terms of unexpected but nothing that can't be handled. [pushes open the door to the tavern] Full of people who haven't heard about your Strawhat Hero.

[chicken_kun]

Psh, the Grand Line. Piece of cake. Everybody knows the New World is where it's at.

[squints around the tavern. Yep, definitely looks like one from back home, right down to the stares from patrons - half disgusted, half terrified. Aww yeah, he's still got it.]

Sounds like a nice place to hang out for a while. Maybe carve a little piece for myself.

[and hunt down Luffy to worship at his feet...]

[thatched]

I'm with you. [he takes a seat at the bar and waves for a drink] But don't think you can just carve up whatever you want.

[chicken_kun]

[doesn't bother with a seat and leans on the bar instead, making sure everyone in the room can see his fangs and the tanto sticking out from his belt. And sneers at their staring.]

Oh yeah? What, somebody already claimin' territory or something? Big bad Navy gonna give me a bounty too? They should.

[thatched]

[all he can think of when he sees that tonto is his one brief encounter with the Foxy guy so great job there]

Aye a few people are here and there, not weak ones either. Navy... [he wiggles his hand] they tend to leave well enough alone until they don't. But you'll have to make a big noise for you to be bountied even decently here.

[chicken_kun]

[hey at least he has the abs to rock the silly pants/no shirt outfit, okay, not like Foxy]

You sure know a lot, pops. You been around, huh?

[thatched]

[yes well everyone knows you're a dick, you don't have to show him.
It makes Thatch twitch to be called Pops though]

Something else, eh, mate? Even old timer. [the drinks come and he takes a sip of his]
I've been here too long some days. So I can steer your right if you want.

[oooh, free booze! Thanks Thatch.]

There's someone I'd like to sail out to meet, but until then, information is information. The locals don't wanna give out any, so if you've got some, I'll take it.

[thatched]

[let me guess. He's about 5'7" or so and wears a particular brand of hat]

What kind of thing do you want to know?

I saw the wanted lists, so I know there's pirates. How tough are they? An what is there for a guy to get his hands on if he wants to have some fun?

[thatched]

As for the first, it depends on what you mean by tough. Give me an example. [since he has no idea what this rookie can even do] As for the second hmm.... Isla de la Passion is always fun, Turvey Top, Centaurea, Yuezhong if you want a real good time.

Tough like a Donquixote executive, tough.

[best measure of his current level, in his estimation. Standing in a ring with one totally counts, let's not talk about how hardly anyone even hit each other...]
