Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[not that he really moves to stop her. Remembering the mustache makes him snort.]

Yeah, that. That's how it was when I first got here. That was a while ago, though. [he leans on the bar to enjoy his drink and chat, catch Nam up] Right now, Keimi's navigating. She's not doing too bad. It's only Luffy, me, the cook, and Robin - plus Keimi and a couple other people we picked up here.

Home...well. All we got to go on is this thing about jewel shards. Collecting them so we can wish everybody home.

So generous, Zoro. [Screw you man, this is totally her rum now. Popping the cork as she tries to process that information. She didn't know Keimi had navigation skill, but whatever works-- she's just surprised that Keimi is here and half the crew isn't.]

So you haven't seen the others in a year either? [No Usopp? Chopper or Franky or Brook? She feels a wave of homesickness already. Though the fact that the other half has been here somehow a year out of time is kind of nerve-wracking on its own.] This place sucks already.

[Oh well, does sound like they have some idea how to get home. Something about a--]

Jewel shards, huh? [She props her elbow on the bar, giving him a cheerful grin.] Tell me more.

[he knows that look, Nami. That is the 'you still haven't paid me 300% interest' look.]

Not that kind of jewel! You can't spend it so don't even think of it. All I knows is that it has something to do with Davy Jones, it's in a million pieces, and we keep finding 'em in weird places. Stole one from some pirates a few weeks ago.

We don't have a lot of 'em though. Luffy would rather punch Davy Jones in the face, but he's a ghost so it's not a good solution either.

[Oh, fine. Sulky pout for you. It doesn't last, though.]

Davy Jones is a ghost? [That...doesn't terrify her as much as it probably should. Stories about Davy Jones are kind of varied on the subject. As long as she doesn't have to deal with him personally.]

Wait, this is the jewel that rhyme on the fountain was talking about? How many pieces have you found?

[sipping away at the rum, straight from the bottle]

Yeah, that's the one. We've got...uh. A couple? [thinking] Robin had one but lost it...then I think we got another one...yeah, then the contest...

[honest, he has no idea anymore]

You've found a couple and you've been here a year.

[Wow, that's pretty sad for a bunch of pirates.] And this is our only way home?

That we know of. Like I say, Luffy wants to try the direct route, but figuring out how to beat the shit out of a ghost is probably just as hard as finding bits of a jewel.

[a couple of the old salts nearby who can hear their conversation start to edge away from them. Talking about the ghost of Davy Jones is clearly not what they want to hear over their drinks on a night like this.]

[Point. Also: ghost. Not something she wants to get near, ever. Imagine that.]

If anyone'll find a way to do it, Luffy will. [She glances briefly at the old salts in question, and then turns back to her bottle, making a face before taking a long drink. She's gonna need it, clearly.]

I guess as long as I'm stuck here your luck finding treasure might improve. So where's everyone else?

[might be trying to stealthily pull the last remaining bottle of rum closer to him so she can't steal it]

Around the ship. Unless Luffy went tearing off into the woods to find boars, he does that a lot. Oh, that's right, you wouldn't remember the Million Merrily. Good little ship.

[You can stealthily do that all you want, Zoro. She'll take a while to get through this bottle, so you might wanna outdrink her if you want to keep it.]

Million Merrily? You've got a new-- of course you have. [Not...sure how to feel about that. It feels damn strange knowing the Sunny's waiting for them at home.] What type of vessel?

Brig sloop. [yes that is a much better tactic, guzzling down the rest of this bottle to move on to the other] Smaller than Sunny. But there's a guy who's pretty good at ship-building, captain of another crew, he made some improvements for us. Enclosed the crow's nest and stuff.

[Same kind as Sunny, then, in theory. Though Sunny was distinctly a class all on his own.]

At least there's some familiarity, then. [She pouts a little as he opens the second bottle. Fine, keep your alcohol.] How long's Keimi been your navigator for?

[scratches the back of his neck] Mm. Well, she was already doing it when I got here, so it's been a while. But she had help from Bepo - one of the Heart Pirates - for a while, and I think Marco taught her some stuff too.

[Perhaps he won't mention Aokiji giving her lessons, though.]

[mikangirl]

Oh, we're not the only ones here from home? [She knows Bepo is Law's navigator, and Marco sounds vaguely familiar. She looks curious for a moment, then her eyes narrow.]

Tell me no jerks from home followed us here, at least.

[yourotherleft]

[for a moment, he grins recklessly]

Well, Smoker and Crocodile ain't here anymore, so you don't have to worry.

But yeah, there's others, not just Keimi. A handful of the Whitebeards are still around.

So no decent competition for jewel shards. What a shame.

You wouldn't think so if you met the Whitebeards. [sigh, but no. She has a point] The locals are pretty weak. Even the Navy.
