Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! [When Hachiken awakened, the first thing he does is blink in confusion. He's staring up at the sky again and he groaned.] Not again.

[Slowly he sat up, holding his head as he looked around cautiously. His eyes widen.]

Where...am I? [He jerked his head from side to side.] I was in the city a minute ago!

[It was another regular day on the ship, but Hachiken was hard at work. Some of your crewmates have managed to convince him that it was his job as the newbie to clean the entire ship from top to bottom as they sat around and played cards, or something. Although they had a good laugh about it at the beginning, now it was too boring to follow him around and watch him, considering they were certain he was still cleaning - and he was. Hachiken had a nice list written in his notebook. He looked a bit tired, but otherwise, seemed perfectly fine with mopping the galley down below.]

[This guy had been too busy to notice the crew picking on the new guy--but when he did notice it...

Well, he kind of made it a point to say something. And to ask them not to do it, again. Yeah, there would be no bullying on that ship. Fortunately, said crew members attempted to laugh it off as a joke--which, he gave them a nice, firm stare over.

Sora could laugh about a lot of things, but that wasn't going to be one of them. He immediately hunted down Hachiken to apologize for how his fellow crew mates behaved.]

Hey, uh... you know you don't have to do that, right? That was actually supposed to be my job. [Okay, it was supposed to be random crew member number 7's job, but details. The point was, Sora didn't want Hachiken doing anyone else's work, but his own. He'd done enough chores to earn the right to relax, in his opinion.]

[unlikelyfarmhand]

[It might have been funny, but Hachiken didn't seem to mind much. When Sora approached he paused in what he was doing and gave him a bit of a smile.]

Oh...well...that's okay! Maybe you can do mine for my next time then?

[That was a good arrangement that he had with Beppu whenever he forgot it was his turn on cleaning duty.]

Uh... well... [He appeared to deflate a bit.]

O...kay, I guess. [Awkwardly scratching his head a bit, he tilted it to the side.]

If you say so. But, you've already done so much around here...

It's not so bad. I'm used to doing a lot of chores. We have to do everything at my school, well except cook our meals.

[rikuheyriku]

Oh... [He paused.] What kind of school do you go to?

[unlikelyfarmhand]

I go to Ezonoo, the agricultural school. It's a boarding school and if you go around it, it's twenty kilometres. They have fields, animals...all kinds of things. We learn about animals and have practicums. Every morning I get up at four to take care of the horses.

[rikuheyriku]

Woah, that sounds really cool! [Smiles.]

Horses, huh... [Suddenly looks kind of excited and leans in.] Did you ever get to ride one?

[unlikelyfarmhand]

[Hachiken leans on the handle of the mop he'd been holding.]

Yeah, I learned to ride one. I was in a jumping tournament a little earlier this month. I placed fourth in the low jumps. I did okay, sort of. [He almost looks disappointed.]

[rikuheyriku]

Wow, fourth place? That's great! With more practice, I'm sure you'll do even better, next time!

[Pause.]

When ever you get back home, I mean. [Smiles sheepishly.]

[unlikelyfarmhand]

I hope so. I should have done better though.

[rikuheyriku]

Don't say that! You did the best you could, right? That should be all that matters! As long as you keep trying, you can only get better.

So, instead of beating yourself up, just keep telling yourself to never give up!

[He gives a firm grin, lifting a hand up next to his head, then closing his fist in an encouraging move.]

[Winry is sitting on the edge of the fountain, watching him while she eats a popsicle. She'd moved him out of the direct path of the locals, though they didn't seem the type to just walk on someone.]

Isla...Empieza?

[Hachiken's brow furrows and he rubs his eyes under his glasses. Who was the pretty girl talking to him?]

But I was just...

[hands4healing]

[Winry sucks on the end of her popsicle, completely unaware of the affect that could have on teenage boys. When the young man finishes talking, she nods.]

Just...somewhere else? That happens around here!

[unlikelyfarmhand]

[Fortunately, Hachiken can keep himself together for just a little while. Especially when he's just appeared somewhere unfamiliar.]

I...must have gotten lost again. Do you know the way to Ezonoo?

[hands4healing]

Um. [Winry tries to think if she's heard of an island with that name.]

No, I'm sorry. Do you know what direction it's in?

[unlikelyfarmhand]

[He shakes his head.]

No idea. That's where I was going before I came here. This place looks very strange, the buildings aren't right.

[Hachiken sighs.] Thanks, I guess.

[hands4healing]

You're welcome! I'm sorry I don't have any better information, but there are a lot of us here, like you. We don't know how we got here, or why we're here, anyway. Except someone wants us to find a red stone.

[Winry pulls a face here. She doesn't really like red stones.]

[unlikelyfarmhand]

A red stone? What for?

[He's confused, to put it mildly.]

[hands4healing]

There's the fountain. It'll tell you why. Kind of. It's more of a riddle than anything!

[Winry's confused, too.]

[unlikelyfarmhand]

[Well he can do riddles. He heads over to the fountain to read it. He twitches a few times.]

Aren't I still in Japan?

[hands4healing]

[Winry tilts her head to the side. She's never heard of 'Japan' before, but she'd not heard of a lot of places people talk about here.]

No. Sorry. This is Isla Empieza, and...it's only friendly for a few days, then the natives [She waves her hand to indicate the people around them, ignoring them] kick us off.

[unlikelyfarmhand]

What?!

[His eyes are wide and he slumps to his knees. These kinds of shocks. How was he supposed to get back to Ezonoo this way? People were waiting for him to come back!]

That's...that doesn't make any sense. I just left the optometrist.

[hands4healing]

[She sounds sympathetic.]

I'm sorry. I know it doesn't help, but we're all in the same boat!

[Ha ha.]
