See you during the application round!
♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?
♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!
♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!
♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!
♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!
dammit Matsuoka
Nobody wants to be a sourpuss all the time.
Unless you're Matsuoka.
"Practice... Yeah, I guess we ought to." Mikoshiba hadn't been thinking about swimming laps, but Matsuoka was probably right. He had a big, fat sports scholarship waiting for him back at home, and he wasn't about to lose it because he'd been falling out of shape playing pirate. He began taking off his clothes, hopping slightly as he slipped out of his thick canvas pants.
"It's a pain in the ass they don't have real pools here."
You deserve it for thinking about his sister.
Taking off his training suit with the ease of years of practice, Rin stretched his arms and neck a little, wandering over to the basin quite calmly, without waiting for Mikoshiba.
Still enjoying your fashion choices, buchou?
ROOD
Sei wrestled with his belt and tunic and boots and... whatever else he had on
that wasn't really necessary. He climbed higher on the rocks when he was finally undressed and dove into the basin, resurfacing and shaking out his hair.
"Goggles would be nice, too..." he mused, frowning slightly. The water was freezing, but he hardly minded.
trooth
... Okay, so he didn't bring his original pair of goggles with him, either. He didn't know they'd find a place to swim! He still deserved bragging rights for owning a pair, dammit. (In every meaning of the word, but that goes without saying.)
Rin didn't bother with a dramatic dive, simply getting into the water and swimming slowly for a bit, warming up. Considering the temperature of the water, he was ready for something faster very soon.
"Even without goggles, you can see who wins a race, right?" It wasn't put as bluntly as it might have been; Rin was at least outwardly polite to his team captain most of the time. It was still a challenge, though, and a calculated one; Mikoshiba was damn fast. But for Rin, there was little point in practicing if he wasn't up against something - and with no way to measure their time accurately, competing against each other was the next best thing. "Let's try starting with that dive, touching the tree on the other side of the basin, and swimming back. If that's all right."
no subject
"Of course you want to race..." Sei also began moving through the water to warm up.
"At least let me get warm, first." He idly blew bubbles under the water, surveying the distance between the two locations.
"And I don't want to screw up my stroke counts in a pool that's the wrong size, either."
no subject
Getting warm was fine by Rin; it wasn't that he was in a hurry, as such. It just felt better, having something to work towards. He'd done without a challenge (well, without a challenge he actually stood the slightest chance of winning) for far too long.
So he swam along himself, quite calmly, enjoying the range of motion the water offered. Gradually, he began going a little faster in short spurts, just enough to get his circulation going.
"You're not going to find a pool the right size in this world." Because why not state the obvious once in a while? "Or any actual pool, where you can make a quick turn..."
So maybe Rin missed his all-powerful kick. Just a little.
no subject
Sei smirked to himself. Of course the almighty Rin would be pissed off about his kick, or lack thereof.
"Of course not. Maybe that only guarantees my victory. You can't exactly kangaroo kick off these rocks."
An Australia joke? Of course.
no subject
"There's more to my swimming than my kick."
All the same, he wasn't claiming that he could beat Mikoshiba just yet. The odds were 50-50 at best, and, depending on what stroke they'd use, might well be even less in Rin's favor. Of course Rin wasn't going to turn this into some immature bragging contest, the way Mikoshiba was doing.
Except that he was sort of doing that already. Oops.
no subject
"You want to do this, then?" He dropped a bit of the goof act, making his way for the starting point Matsuoka had pointed out.
no subject
"Yeah." If Rin's speech patterns were a little less polite than normal, it was a result of both eagerness and the fact that he was talking to himself as much as anything. "It's about time I have some sort of race again."
Heading over to the starting point, himself, Rin glanced along the route he'd suggested, as if checking for obstacles along the way. There were none, really; it was a fairly straightforward swim until the water would become too shallow, then a little run to the giant tree on the other side, and back again. Touching the rocks on this end was similar enough to a 'normal' finish, and the more Rin focused on the positives, the more eager he became to do this.
"What stroke do you want to use?"
