Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

Oh for--

[Codi buries her face in her hand and takes a steadying breath. Think on the bright side...she was smart enough to keep out of this guy's way when he set up that disastrous-looking crossbow. At least...]

--Okay, well--at least they'll feel less inclined to board us, I guess.

[She chances a look up. It appears that the enemy ship's crew is preparing to board.]

...Never mind. [Codi puts on a brave face and calls to the man with the stupidly big gun.] --Alright, good job! Keep up damaging their ship, the rest of us will keep the bad guys off your back. Can you do that without blowing us up, too, this time?

[piecemaker_detritus]

[ Well, it's totally something that can be fixed later. Probably. Detritus nods in response to Codi, calm in the face of the chaos happening all around them though at least half of it is his fault. ]

Yeah, dat'll be a piece of cake. Figured out the distance an' everything.

[ The troll begins the arduous process of reloading his crossbow, the Piecemaker's mechanisms making a shrieking sound not unlike a deranged duck being strangled as he forces it back. ]

Gonna need a few seconds to reload. Can you handle 'em?

Yeah. Not a problem.

[Never mind the fact that she's unarmed, unarmored, and quickly about to be surrounded by baddies. Codi has this under control. Or, at least she hopes she does.]

[The first couple of enemies board, most likely with the intent of attacking the fellow with the most dangerous weapon so far revealed, but Codi does her part diligently.]

Oi! Gonna save some for me?

[She hasn't closed any distance--she's not stupid enough to put herself between the attackers and her troll companion--but the look of confidence should indicate that she has a trick up her sleeve. There's an iron, deck-mounted cannon behind them that has her attention; Codi focuses on it and waves her hand dramatically in its direction, willing charge into her fingertips...]

[...and nothing happens. Made for a good, half-minute distraction, though! Should be plenty of time for Detritus to load and shoot that obnoxiously loud crossbow of his, right?]
