Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

If it's a trick, I really wish someone would jump out and say they did it. That's pretty impressive.

[Cody sips at a frosty mug of beer from one of the local stands as he assesses the other newcomer.]

Don't know why they'd wanna' bring kids here, though. This place ain't exactly child-safe.

[Her expression turns from confusion to annoyance. She approaches Cody, hands on her hips.]

What do you know about me being brought here?

Not a thing, kid. You think most of us don't wonder the same thing? You ain't exactly alone in this. A lot of us got yanked here against our wills.

[stomptheground]

[She exhales, blowing a strand of hair out of her face.]

Where am I?

[None of the vibrations she can feel are familiar. Even the sounds are different.]

Some island...somewhere. Not on Earth, from the looks of it. Isla Empieza, I think...Yeah, that's the name.

[He finishes off his drink and tosses the glass behind him and into a trash bin. Probably should have returned that.]

Sorry, little guy. You're gonna' be stranded here for a bit, so I hope you can learn how to sail. Guess you can find work as a cabin boy or something.

Sailing? Why would I want to do that? I hate boats.

[She's frowning a little. She's never heard of Isla Empieza, and she's sure she hasn't been here before. The energy is completely different. She certainly can't hear Aang's flying bison.]

How did I get here?

We ain't got much choice. Locals aren't too friendly, and they get tired of us real fast.

Same way as the rest of us, I figure. Woke up at this fountain, right?

[stomptheground]

Fountain, huh?

[Toph nods a little.]

I guess so. I don't remember going to sleep but I did wake up in this weird place. I have a book on me and some coins.

[model_prisoner]

The book is for you to write in. It's how all the abductees here do long range communication. I just talk into it, myself, it does the same thing.

Coins are the local currency. They prep us when we come here.

[stomptheground]

What do I need a book to write in for?

[Toph waves a hand in front of her face.]

I don't read or write. What kind of book talks?

[model_prisoner]

Hell if I know, that's just how they do it around here. I'm not good at describing how things work.

[He doesn't get it at first, but soon has a moment of realization.]

...Oh, you're blind. Well, I guess you're in luck. You can just talk into it, then.

[stomptheground]

[Toph reaches into her pocket and touches the book.]

Huh. Interesting.

[She looks amused, as though she's thinking of some kind of mischief.]

Eh? Why are you so happy?

[stomptheground]

No reason!

[It's always good to know how to reach other people, that's all. Some of them must know how to have fun.]

I'm starving, I'm going to find something good to eat.

[model_prisoner]

You need help with that? Can't be easy walkin' around blind in an unfamiliar place.

[stomptheground]

I do it all the time. We travel around a lot. I can see just, not like you can see.

[Toph walks up to him and holds up her hand as high as it can go.]

This is about halfway up your face, right?

[model_prisoner]

Hm...Give or take. I'm a pretty big guy.

You guess that by my voice or something?

[stomptheground]

[Toph shakes her head.]

I use earthbending to hear all the vibrations in the ground. I can tell people's size and every move they make mostly. Where buildings are, how big they are...it's like seeing with my feet. But I can't tell you what you look like.

[She wiggles her toes.]

[model_prisoner]

Huh. Well, I think I get it. Sciencey stuff has never really been my thing, but I get the gist of it. That's a pretty cool power.

What if something comes at you through the air, though?

[stomptheground]

[She winces, clenching her teeth a little bit. Lucky guess!]

If someone is throwing something at me and they're not connected to the ground, there's nothing I can do about it.

[model_prisoner]

What can you do if they do come at you normally? I mean, you're not even 100 lbs. Can you defend yourself?

[stomptheground]

Of course I can! I'm an earthbender.

[Where she's from, that means something.]

I'll show you something.

[Toph takes a deep breath, holding her arms out. She raises her foot and stomps once, and a boulder comes up from the earth. She pushes her hands forward and the boulder smashes into the ground next to the fountain, crumbling into smaller rocks.]

What the hell is an earthbe--Oh. So that's what that is.

That's pretty cool, too. You must be fun to fight.

[stomptheground]

[She grins.]

I'm great at fighting! It's really awesome, I love fighting. I used to be the champion!
