Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

Toph Beifong | Avatar: The Last Airbender

[The first thing Toph notices, is that she's lying on the ground. The ground beneath her is cobble stone, something rarely found in the places they visit. She sits up and exhales a moment, focusing. Listening. Toph doesn't hear anyone familiar, and in fact the layout of the place is completely unfamiliar.]

Aang? Sokka? [There's a pause.] Katara? This isn't funny!

[She gets to her feet, her bare feet a little unsteady on the stones. How annoying.]

If this is a trick, it sure is a lousy one!

[Being at sea is incredibly weird. The movement of the water beneath the ship makes everything unsteady and Toph is still adjusting to sailing on a boat. Like the earth, she can feel vibrations through the wood but it's not the same. It's a lot more like how she used to be before she learned earth bending.

That however, isn't going to stop her from learning her surroundings. It's easy enough to find the bow and that's where she flops herself down against a sack of supplies, putting her arms behind her head and relaxing, one leg crossed over the other. When she's settled, the gentle movement of the sea is actually very relaxing.]

[Kazari lacks a couple of his six senses, and those he doesn't lack are dulled, but he can't imagine being completely blind. Does this mean he pities her? Not at all. He's not really capable of it.

He might be curious, however, which leads to him standing over the girl for some time while she sits there. Does she knows he's there? How long will it take her to notice?

The desire to see isn't terribly strong within her, so it's not something he can make use of. A shame.]

[With her feet on solid ground she can see just fine, thank you very much, and has no real desire to change that. She may not have the same kind of control since she can't do any wood bending, but that doesn't mean her hearing is affected any.

Toph doesn't give him much time to wonder, when he doesn't say anything, she speaks up. She hasn't met everyone, so she doesn't know Kazari, but that doesn't stop her from speaking in a bored, mildly annoyed tone.]

What do you want?

[What kind of a person hovers over someone anyway?]

[One who only has their own interests in mind.]

Who said I wanted anything?

[His lips quirk up as he continues to regard her.]

I'm just curious about you is all. About what you can do.

[stomptheground]

[Toph is trying to be a little better about it, but she could probably concede that accusation, if she were willing to give any headway at all.

She gives him a little smirk, taunting him.]

What can I do? I'm the greatest earth bender, ever!

... I'm sure that would sound a lot grander if I actually knew what an earth bender was.

[He crosses his arms over his chest, giving her a look. How is bending the earth supposed to help them out on open water, anyway?]

[stomptheground]

[Kazari's look has absolutely no sway over Toph. She has no idea what kind of expression he has on his face anyway.]

What kind of a person doesn't know what bending is anyway? [Toph rolls her eyes.]

I can make the ground move, and I can use it to fight. Fighting is the best.

If it's a trick, I really wish someone would jump out and say they did it. That's pretty impressive.

[Cody sips at a frosty mug of beer from one of the local stands as he assesses the other newcomer.]

Don't know why they'd wanna' bring kids here, though. This place ain't exactly child-safe.

[Her expression turns from confusion to annoyance. She approaches Cody, hands on her hips.]

What do you know about me being brought here?

Not a thing, kid. You think most of us don't wonder the same thing? You ain't exactly alone in this. A lot of us got yanked here against our wills.

[stomptheground]

[She exhales, blowing a strand of hair out of her face.]

Where am I?

[None of the vibrations she can feel are familiar. Even the sounds are different.]

Some island...somewhere. Not on Earth, from the looks of it. Isla Empieza, I think...Yeah, that's the name.

[He finishes off his drink and tosses the glass behind him and into a trash bin. Probably should have returned that.]

Sorry, little guy. You're gonna' be stranded here for a bit, so I hope you can learn how to sail. Guess you can find work as a cabin boy or something.

Sailing? Why would I want to do that? I hate boats.

[She's frowning a little. She's never heard of Isla Empieza, and she's sure she hasn't been here before. The energy is completely different. She certainly can't hear Aang's flying bison.]

How did I get here?

[Asami stepped onto the bow with another bag of supplies when she spotted Toph relaxing there. She still had a hard time believing that this was the famous Chief Beifong, founder of the metalbending police force of Republic City, who was now only reduced to a 12 year child. It was one of the many reasons she hadn't brought up Lin yet either.

Laying the supplies down, she peered down at the younger girl, a small smile on her face]

It looks like you're getting more use to moving around on the ship now. [Sort of...] But do you mind giving me a hand? I need a little bit of help.

[stomptheground]

[Toph tilted her head a little bit, listening to Asami.]

What do you need help with?

[Is it earthbending? She hopes it's earthbending. Or fighting.]

I need to bring a couple of these sacks over to the other side of the ship. It'll be easier with two people.

[Isn't this the most this is the most exciting thing ever]

[stomptheground]

[Not earthbending and not fun at all.]

No thanks. [She makes a face and waves her hand dismissively.] That sounds boring.

[Asami just gives her a puzzled look as she slings a bag over her shoulder. They were pretty heavy]

But you're just laying there...

[Toph puts her hands back behind her head.]

It's called relaxing. It's way more fun then chores.

[Welcome to Katara's world, Asami.]

Yeah, you're telling me.

[He's not far from where Toph is, crouched on the other side of a big, old fountain and reaching for one of the smoke bombs in his belt in case he needs to make a quick escape. Considering he just woke up who the heck knows where without any of his brothers in sight, though, he's got more pressing things on his mind right now than staying hidden from humans.]

Someone's got a totally lame sense of humor. You don't recognize this place either?

[stomptheground]

No, nothing here is familiar.

[Toph is frowning. She can tell where he is of course and she walks around the fountain. He seems like a pretty big guy.]

You don't see a bison flying around do you?

[mostattitude]

No.

[Well, if she's not gonna freak out...

He straightens up, crossing his arms over his chest.]

You seen a giant rat anywhere?

[stomptheground]

A giant rat?

[Toph blinks, even though it doesn't help her.]

I don't know what a giant rat is like. Is it like a badgermole?

[mostattitude]

[What the heck is a badgermole?]

...No, it's. You know, a rat. He's really tall, wears robes -- ah, never mind.

[Takes a look around, frowning.]

Geez. This is probably Donnie's fault. An experiment gone wrong or something and now we're hundreds of years in the past. I am so kicking his butt when I find him.

[stomptheground]

Robes? I've never met an animal that wore robes before. Are you messing with me?

[Toph shrugs a little bit.]

It's all the same to me!
