Welcome to our first Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where players can test out their characters' voices, try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

He only offers the otter the slightest of glances. It only serves to remind that his own pet isn't anywhere to be seen, and besides, he seriously doubts said otter has the talents of his own monkey.

"I suppose that remains for you to see in the long run, mate."

[It was probably fortunate for him that most of her powers were gone, because he would have been struck with lightning where he stood. Instead, she merely gathered the fog around him again, whirling around on her heal.]

[There's a laugh. Given what he's observed, it probably won't make sense to anyone else, but it's a laugh all the same.]

Most of 'em can't swim, mate. Don't wish to tempt fate.

[Well, he's done that a hundred times over now, so he doesn't necessarily consider his ability to swim any worse than what's already on the pile.]

[Takes his hand back. Fine, be that way, boy. Archie crosses his arms across his chest in subtle amusement as he nods toward something behind Luke.]

And a fine sailor you are, no doubt. So well it seems your ship is sailing off just fine without you.

[Might want to hurry, Luke, your ship has got a pretty good wind behind it.]

Because they're your livelihood, mate. No man as has respect for the ship he sails on deserves anything better.

[ ... more to the point, he REALLY doesn't like the sound of later, so he'd better get in some brownie points before later becomes an inevitability. ]

No, seriously, I can help! I'm one of those hunter types, you know!? Maybe there's something there that'll help me track down the real culprit, like- like footprints, or fingerprints, or strange smells!

[Luke spun around, eyes widening as... there went his... ship.]

Ah! No! Wait!

[He fumbled, trying to reach for it and... right into the drink he goes.]

Well, I've traveled across the sea before, but never for as long as this. I guess it is a little lonely after a while.

Aah, with all this talk about food I don't know how long I'm going to last at this rate...

[She lost that pride when she piloted a robot buttnaked.]

As long as you're not hurt, I'm glad.

[...Knuckles doesn't even know what the hell with the banana peel, man. He just sort of blinks a little, staring at it.

...Well, it's not nice to just sit and stare. He glances around, snagging up one of the baskets and bringing it over.]

I SWEAR I DIDN'T IGNORE THESE. I'm just. Slow atm.

[Which is the dumbest thing he's heard in a while, and considering some of the things he's heard...Well.

But he takes a moment to give the newcomer a once-over, and finding nothing particularly impressive (some pirates tended to deck themselves out in more, after all), he gives a snort.]

And with that logic, here's hoping you never become a captain.

[Ah... he knows that voice. It takes him a few seconds to place it exactly; it's not like he knows the woman well. Still, it doesn't take long. Akabayashi opens his eyes, then pushes himself up to sit properly, spreading his legs and resting his elbows just above his knees. The cane is shuffled back and forth between his hands.]

Oi-chan has no intentions otherwise, in a strange place like this, Miss. Do come have a seat so an old man can have a chat with you properly.

[He has no doubt she's armed, nor that she could shoot him without ever coming into view, and that's just no good.]

His is clearly superior.

[That stereotype of a witch is still a hundred or so years in the future for him, and given the way he's seen others dress, well. He can't say she's any odder than they are.

And I'm afraid I'll just have to cut you off right there, lass, as I'd take fifteen good sailors over a witch any day.

[A pause. And a smirk.]

[Now it was Nunnally's turn to make a pirate impression as she tipped her hat and grinned.]

There's always treasure no matter where we go!

[But.... But! Her hair! Such a pretty shade of pink! And he is already suffering from a broken heart.

His tail completely fluffed out, the tip lashing a bit, jingling the piercing back and forth with that tug and his ears lay flat against his head.]

Sorry lady, but I will not be domesticated by a human. Sorry babe. [Okay, speaking in a low but threatening tone of voice.] I will only act cute for one girl and one girl alone. And she isn't you.

[No let go of his tail woman!]

[She still thinks they're cute.]

You would do that? It's really thoughtful of you!

[And here he's given up all hope of anyone speaking any kind of sense. Those are words he understands, clearly and fully. British Empire indeed. But he's right about that lot being green. Too right.]

This lot won't make it out of port without running into each other. There's my bet.

[Even if they have a decent captain. If they heave when told not to heave...Well.]

So aye, it'll grind to a halt, East India Trading Company, Navy, or Empire be damned. Can't get the goods if ye can't sail.

"Grey Bradbury, of Earth." Grey paused to let the bit sink in, before explaining. "I'm adopted."

If I say no, are you going to skewer me with that thing? [Leo says it with a grin and a laugh, as if he's making a joke, but, well...

If the guy is some weird god (which Leo doubts, because a god wouldn't kill a big lizard with the intention to cook it) then Leo just mouthed off to him.

Ah, he'd survived mouthing off to plenty of gods before, and crushing on them. He'd probably survive one more. Or a pissed off guy who has ninja cane powers.]

[Good. His fish and his alone.]

If you have your own rod then I don't mind. [Goes back into a more relax state and pats the ground near himself. He finally goes to get a real look at his new companion and reached in to grab one of the caught and killed fish and tosses it at him.]

You don't look that hungry.

[Akabayashi gives him a little look-over, as if considering it, then turns back to the lizard. In the absence of a volunteer, he starts to work on skinning it himself, his movements slow as if he's taking his time to do it right. It isn't, after all, something he's done before.]

The lizard's probably better eating, I figure.

[He speaks again without looking back at the boy.]

If the young man wants to make himself useful, a campfire for cooking this thing would also be appreciated. Do you know how to do that one?

And I suppose you have time for all that, then?

[And maybe he does. Hector, however, does not. He's been ripped from the victory over the EITC, his ship, and everything therein. He's not lollygagging around a port while he trains a green crew who can't tell port from starboard, nor aft from prow.

He's utterly content with what he is, though it took a helluva wake up call to get there, but what he is not content with is the idea of buying a ship and hiring the greenest crew imaginable. It's absolutely unthinkable.]
