Welcome to our first Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where players can test out their characters' voices, try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[Ah... he knows that voice. It takes him a few seconds to place it exactly; it's not like he knows the woman well. Still, it doesn't take long. Akabayashi opens his eyes, then pushes himself up to sit properly, spreading his legs and resting his elbows just above his knees. The cane is shuffled back and forth between his hands.]

Oi-chan has no intentions otherwise, in a strange place like this, Miss. Do come have a seat so an old man can have a chat with you properly.

[He has no doubt she's armed, nor that she could shoot him without ever coming into view, and that's just no good.]

[ as she emerges, she doesn't retract her gun, but it's more like a security blanket right now. her only insurance of safety. the expression on her face is icy at best, and the momentary truce is only there if her own intentions are to be believed. ]

Executive of Awakusu-kai, Akabayashi. [ almost as if to confirm ] The meeting place is perplexing, but you are unmistakably an enemy.

[ that, she's sure he understands. ]

Why?

[He asks the question quite casually, giving another little toss of the cane back and forth, before he lets it rest against one leg. He raises one hand to wave at the fountain, offering her a seat next to his own.]

Haven't seen any Awakusu-kai around here, might be retirement time.

[ why? she's a little thrown off there, because to her, it seems so obvious. there are a few seconds of balking, but as she cedes enough to answer, she chooses to stand. getting comfortable and casual with a man like this was a bad idea. experience told her so, though her level of closeness or casualness with anyone was somehow questionable. ]

You are in cooperation with my father's company. Parting ways now, an inconvenience. Would you deny it?

[ it would be useless to given what he'd done, but she's not so sure what he's implying. ]

Ah, well, I can't deny any of that.

[He waves his hand, then leans back again, tilting his head back to look up at the statue he'd been addressing earlier. Still, he keeps her within his field of vision.]

Place like this, doesn't seem to matter much. Figure I'll do me some exploring, see what happens. You in some kinda hurry to get home, Miss?

[ maybe it really doesn't matter here. if he steps away from it, at least, there isn't any punishment to face. but still, she couldn't forget what he'd done to Slon on her father's behalf, what he did to her notwithstanding (her request that she be killed if he were was no bluff).

the gun is lowered somewhat as she takes a few paces closer. ]

Our terms are not friendly. [ and she has no intention for it to become that, but— ] My state is that of indecision. In appearance, this place bears no resemblance to idealistic Tokyo.

[ she also doesn't intend to linger long on that digression, so she shakes her head. ]

"Home," Ikebukuro. The difference is nil. This vendetta is personal.

[He tilts his head a little, following her movement.]

If you want to go another round, I'll indulge you.

[Pause.]

It is, however, far better to resist such impulses in a strange place when unknown dangers may lurk. Injuries from a fight that needn't happen would only put both of us at risk, and Oi-chan doesn't like that idea at all.

[ he does have a point. she doesn't know if she can trust him. on one hand, there's little reason for him to lie if it's true that he's alone here where his companions are concerned. but on the other, trusting someone of his ilk for any reason seemed unwise.

Vorona lowers her gun to her hip. ]

Danger, no problem. [ however. ] I negate the necessity for a repeat.

[ for right now anyway... already, her mind is racing with thoughts of battle against a worthy opponent, but she doesn't want emotions to cloud her judgment either. there's still one man she has to kill, and she couldn't do it dead herself. ]

My recommendation is for a temporary arrangement only. Do you follow?

[His eye follows her gun down, of course, but he doesn't comment on it. He turns his gaze back up to her face, silent for a moment as he considers what to say to her. Of course, he has no interest in fighting this woman, here or elsewhere, but that's not really just up to him.

Should he show her again why messing with him isn't a good idea, or should he take a chance on a "temporary arrangement"?

He shrugs his shoulders.]

I have no reason to argue with that. The situation is definitely out out of the ordinary, and starting out in a strange new place already in trouble with a lady is not the ideal.

[He tilts his head back to look up toward the sky.]

Might be about time to start thinking about taking to the sea, after all.
