See you during the application round!
♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?
♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!
♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!
♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!
♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[Though, sorry, guy. Nothing about you says pirate to Hector. After all, if you can pick a pirate out of a crowd of people, that is a pirate that is, in fact, doing it wrong, at least where he's from. After all, you wouldn't be a pirate very long if the Navy could spot you right off.]

I don't suppose you've got any nakama here then, eh?
no subject
Nakama. Afraid that be a word I'm unfamiliar with.
[Sounds like something from Japan, though he's not going to say so.]

[Wait nakama's a strange word? Marco thinks rapidly.]
Crewmate? Friend, family, coworkers, they travel with ye on a journey through life, eh?
no subject
But at the explanation he pauses, because he certainly wouldn't call Jack Sparrow any of that, even if he's clapped eyes on him here.
No.]
Nay, this here be a fresh start. A good one, too, as me last crew seemed stubborn about getting themselves clean now and again.

[In any case, Marco grins at the joke. Internally though, he wants to point out that nakama are irreplaceable. And if they smell a lot, then Barbossa should have gotten better ones in the first place. Then again, Marco can kind of sympathize. Some men really had trouble with the concept of showering daily.]
Have you tried kicking them overboard? It does wonders I've found.
no subject
Most of 'em can't swim, mate. Don't wish to tempt fate.
[Well, he's done that a hundred times over now, so he doesn't necessarily consider his ability to swim any worse than what's already on the pile.]
no subject
Mah. Same in my crew. Luckily we have a few nakama whose sole job is to fish them out again. Saves on the idiots who can't swim diving in to try to save the others. You'd be amazed how often that happens, yoi.
Are you sure you're a captain? You're too smart to be one. More like a first mate, eh.
no subject
Can't say much for most captains I know, either, mate. But there are a few shining examples above the rabble.
no subject
[He glances back to Barbossa with a grin.] I used to be my Pops' first mate. But now I guess I've inherited his family, and all those wars.
