Test Drive for September 2013 Apps

Welcome to our first Test Drive for [community profile] high_seas! Here is where players can test out their characters' voices, try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

See you during the application round!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

Aye, Captain. I'll keep an eye out for things up here until we lower anchor.

[The praise and (decreasing) mangling of her name give her pause, and she smiles back down at him.]

Thank you... I'm still new at this, so I'm hoping I can manage all right.

[He was learning her name; she was learning to speak like a sailor. Neither of them were there yet, but they each improved just a little with every day.]

Only way to learn is to do. This is the sort of education landsmen get when they go to sea where I'm from.
diamondlight: (Geez...)

Trial by fire, huh? Well, I suppose that makes sense... reading about running a ship is very different than actually crewing one. Not... that I've read about it much, either.

"Sir." [It's a gentle prompt. Just a small lesson on speaking like a sailor. How to address any senior officer is important, though.]

Never read much about it before I went to sea first. Managed well enough myself.
diamondlight: (Stop that!)

R-right. Apologies, sir. [She would stop slipping in time. She's used to running around town with her friends, not sailing crystal waters as quite possibly the youngest member of the crew.]

And I do understand... it's more habit than anything else. Back home, acting without a complete understanding of what you were doing was... ill-advised.

No need to apologise. Simply be aware. [After all, he'd trained midshipmen with no idea what to expect. And landsmen, who could be even worse. Teaching a young woman eager to learn? Was not the most awful of fates.]

We didn't have many things like that where I was from. It was a common attitude-- that the only way to learn was to do. You're doing well, though.

Yes, Captain. I'm doing my best... I don't want to let anyone down. Whether this is my home or not, it's my life now - I have an obligation to do things right.

A desire to do your duty. [He can't help but smile.] You'll do well, then.
diamondlight: (I guess it's all right.)

I... hope so. There's a lot to learn, and a lot of lives depending on me, sir. I appreciate the praise, but I think I have to long way to go before I can say I've earned it.
