Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

By changing time. We'd stop existing, because the versions of us would have a chance at a world without all the bad things that messed up the future, basically.

[Finally. He figured he'd eventually get somewhere if he asked enough people.]

Isla Empieza? Is that the name of the town, too? And yeah, I'm new. I went to sleep in my bedroom and woke up in the middle of the street. [Eheh.]

...Why am I here, anyway?

Admittedly, I don't think much about time passage, either.

[This kid is walking around this new island with a huge grin on his face. What really gets Sinbad going is the thought of a new adventure. The island seems lush beyond the beach. He tucks his sword into the fabric around his waist and jumps off the ship into the sand. He loved the sea, but new places were just fun. Maybe there's a dungeon he can explore.]

B

[He wakes up in the Town Square, surprised by the change in location. The first thing he notices is that it isn't nearly as hot as he's used to. He sits up and looks around.

Luckily, his sword is on the ground near his hand, untouched. He picks it up and gets to his feet, looking around. What happened? How did he get here? No time like the present, it's best to ask around.]

[You are the rudest, Natsuno. This isn't new, but it's certainly unwelcome. He can't quite hear the snickering, but he can see Natsuno.]

Hey, quit laughing at me, it's not funny...

[reluctantjinrou]

Oh, I don't know, it's pretty funny.

[He'll smirk at Tohru instead.]

Not that hard really. You just put one foot in front of the other.

Pirates? I haven't the slightest idea how to be a pirate.

[A large tiger breaks the surface just a few meters out from the landing. Only the head is visible at first, but his size is more apparent as he makes his way ashore. Between his teeth he has the tail of a rather sizable shark that he's brought in.

He drops it on the sand before shaking off the water.]

It gets confusing, but I always liked to read a lot of books so that helped.

I take it since the other animals don't speak your language you weren't really into books though?

Not a bit. Which is why I'm very lucky I can speak into these. I don't really understand the whole "reading and writing" thing.

[She blinks, tilting her head a bit as she thinks on that.]

Hmm...I guess so? I haven't actually questioned that. [She lets out a soft laugh.] Ah, they got me in the middle of the night, too. Guess they like to make a habit of inconveniencing us, as much as possible.

[In spite of the sarcasm in her tone, it's obvious it's still somehow lighthearted. Of course, she is worried and annoyed. They took her while she was in Tartarus, and she can't even begin to imagine how worried/confused everyone is. She really hopes they're all alright...

To his final question, she nods.]

Right, then! [She slaps her fist into the palm of one hand. She almost gives the impression she's about to present a project in front of a classroom, or something.] So, from what I've learned, so far, we're supposed to be gathering the shards of this ruby. Once all the pieces are put together, that's supposed to be the end of it. Apparently, we'll be able to make a wish. It seems like this ruby's a pretty big deal, since we supposedly get to make any wish.

[Propping on hand on her hip, she cocks her head to the side with a smile.] Well, if any of this is true, that means there's a chance we'll all get to go home. Hopefully, whoever attaches the final piece is considerate of the rest of us.

That's not what I mean and you know it. The boat moves too much.

[He is detaching himself from the mast, though, and making his way over to Natsuno.]

How long did it take you to get used to it?

You're supposed to be the older one. Here.

[He reaches out and takes Tohru's sleeve and nudges him towards the railing.]

Lean against that. No one will know. And I didn't have any problems.

B

[under_the_wire]

[Well, he would have liked to ask around, but that's hard to do when there's suddenly a dagger at your throat. A very familiar dagger. Unfortunately.]

WHAT THE HELL, YOU BASTARD?! WHAT DID YOU DO?!

[The last thing Ja'far remembers was announcing his plans not to kill Sinbad. He's considering taking that one back.]

A - 27 years old
[The ship's ledgers, neglected for so long because the captain has more important things on his mind, are now stacked neatly on the desk, all loose papers are bound and organized in piles alongside the books, all the maps have been placed in logical order in a drawer, and the rest of the desk is taken up by the one responsible for all the hard work, passed out asleep from overwork with an ink stain growing under one freckled cheek.]

B - 10 years old
[There seems to be a rather small boy by the fountain. A rather small, rather angry boy, with the lower half of his face wrapped in bandages so only his wide, rage-filled eyes can be seen.]

WHAT THE HELL?! WHERE THE HELL IS THIS PLACE?!

[Rather small, rather angry, and rather loud.]

No need to be so loud, lad.

[Dougen peered down at him from where he was napping on one of the rooftops. Why was he so upset?]

You'll get more help by being polite, no?

[ Julie's seen a lot in her life, but never a tiger that big. Then again, she's never seen a real tiger period, but the point still stands that he is massive. Doing the most logical thing, Julie squeaked and moved to grab the nearest object to use as a weapon if things went sour. ]

Uh... Hey there? You speak English, giant... furry guy?

Would you like to learn?

[Wide eyes!]

I don't know if you'll be able to see the print as well or write the same, but I can't imagine living without it.

Lost at sea!

[Heeeey don't mind the pinkish dragon whizzing by there.]

[But seeing a person in a rowboat of all things, she pauses! And does a few loops around.]

Hey Mister, are you all right?

That's a very cute turtle friend you found! [She's just saying, because she wants to play with it.]

[heartbeeps]

[ A | Arrival: Darting around the town square is the most tightly-wound bundle of nerves ever witnessed. Despite clearly being in her early twenties (or perhaps very late teens? It's hard to tell with people these days) she's looking more like a terrified child than a grown woman. Regardless, she's too busy anxiously playing with her hands and politely calling out to passing strangers to concern herself with how she looks. ]

[ B | Kitchen Duty: All she wanted to do was make her beloved crew a meal to express her appreciation for them. Instead, Luna found herself coated in flour, several burnt, salty cakes laid out on the dining table in the perfection example of how not to cook. Someone should probably stop her before she makes another ten carrot, broccoli and salt desserts. ]

[ C | Patching Up: After a particularly nasty fight, Luna's spent most of the day bandaging and babying her crew mates. To say she's exhausted is an understatement - she's physically and emotionally drained, looking like she could collapse at any minute from the hustle and bustle of the day - but there's still one more member of the crew who needs her attention. She politely knocks on your door, peeking her head in with a soft smile. ]

Excuse me, are you awake?

English? Well, if that's the language you speak, I suppose so!

WHO SAID I WANTED HELP?!

[He's so angry that it takes a few seconds before it registers that he's speaking with a talking tiger. Some sort of magician's experiment? Creepy what they'll do to people.]

I don't need your help! I just need to get back to the dungeon! I have things to do, dammit!!

[tofu_tiger]

Dungeon? What's a dungeon? Another human creation?

I suppose I'll pick up what I need to, if I can.
