Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[If he's supposed to be alarmed, he just gives Ja'far a nonplussed look. He finally grinned after a moment.]

Well, you know even if I am incredible, I can't send us through time and space to some strange land. Not yet anyway. This place looks fun though, why don't we explore?

Indeed, lad! It was a well-fought battle, and I'll respect him by eating his whole body. His strength will become my strength.

Are you stupid or something? Where the hell have you been living that you haven't heard about the dungeons? What kind of backwater is this?

[The clothes the other people in the square are wearing don't look like anything he's familiar with, but that doesn't mean that he didn't get spat out of the dungeon onto some lame island no one gives a crap about.]

How the hell is this not your fault?! You're the one who won the challenge are't you?! It sure as hell isn't my fault and it's just the two of us here!

[He doesn't know what the hell Sinbad is going on about with the whole "time and space" thing. For all they know, the dungeon just spat them out somewhere neither of them have been before. He's traveled, of course, but he hasn't been the leader of Sham Lash for that long and it's a big world. And what does Sinbad know, anyway? He's barely spent any time outside of Parthevia, right? And here he is being all full of himself.]

Backwater? What does that mean?

[He hopped down off the roof, landing with deceptive softness for a creature his size. After stepping closer, he leans in, sniffing at the air near Jafar.]

...I do hope you're bathing regularly. You smell a bit odd.

It's not like the dungeon asked me where I wanted to go. We're not in Parthevia anymore though. Can't be that far away. Let's ask around. Don't you want to see what this place is like?

[This is a new town. Or country even. He hasn't traveled the world and Sinbad can't help but be a little excited.]

Excuse you! I take a bath every night!

[This pretty much answers the "are you stupid" question.]

You better watch your big furry mouth! You think killing a big tiger is even gonna be a challenge for me? Ha!

[Never mind that no one asked about that...]

[Ja'far crosses his arms and tosses his head to get the pale, shaggy hair out of his eyes.]

Hmph. Suit yourself.

[This can probably be translated to "you have a point and it's probably a good idea" if one speaks Ja'far.]

[He grins easily.]

Come on, let's see if we can get something to eat first. Aren't you hungry? Maybe they have some kind of strange food in this land!

Why would you wish to kill me? Have I offended you in some way, little one?

[ Oh look, a talking pink dragon.

Which is pink, and a dragon, and... talks...

Now, he's seen his share of strange things since arriving to this place- sea monsters, curses, pirate raids- and he would say he saw strange enough things back home. Impossible not to, with the company he kept. But lost at sea with a turtle and a dragon, well. There was a gap in his experience there. Mori eyes her flight path warily until he determines, in his particular instinctual way, that he probably won't need to spring to the turtle's defense against a predator. Which leaves him room for some mildly disbelieving staring on the side, so it all works out.

He looks up towards the turtle. Down to his freshy salt-ruined school uniform. Back up to the turtle. Then, last but not least, he aims for direct eye contact with his new acquaintance. ]

... Yeah. [ to one??? to both??? why did i decide to play this loser it's a mystery. After a moment, he very ceremoniously tacks on: ] I went overboard.

If it's strange, I don't want to eat it.

[His eyes dart around the square, taking the place in. People seem to be ignoring them for the most part, which is strange considering the situation. Sinbad doesn't seem to mind, though, but he already knows Sinbad is an idiot. An interesting idiot, but an idiot nonetheless. And now he wants to go find strange food to eat. Idiot idiot idiot. If you do something like that, it could upset your stomach and throw off the rest of the mission.]

HOW STUPID ARE YOU?!!! OF COURSE YOU OFFENDED ME! You don't just go up to a guy and tell him he smells funny! You're not gonna smell anything after you're DEAD!

[This situation has escalated quickly.]

Ha ha ha! You're very playful, it's good to be so young!

[Well, he doesn't seem too threatening, because he's not lying that she can tell, so she carefully lands on the opposite edge of the boat, making sure not to unbalance it.]

So you have a ship nearby or do you not know where it is?

[It's like a perfect storm of things that hit his rage buttons, though it's not like that's something Ja'far is lacking in. In a flash, his daggers are in his hands and his stance widens, almost as if he's trying to puff himself up to look bigger.]

I AIN'T PLAYIN' AROUND!

[All in all, the effect is like that of a very vicious chihuahua.]

You're gonna regret looking down on me because I'm a kid!

If it's strange it's important to eat it. Don't you know that's how we're going to experience the world?

Everywhere you go there are new kinds of people who eat new things, believe different things. Don't you think that's amazing? We need to understand strange people and strange places in order to change the world!

[Ja'far didn't ask, but Sinbad is more than happy to give him a speech all the same.]

I bet he's delicious! Do you think there are more?

[The sailing blood is singing within him. The thought of taking down another big beast gets him trembling with excitement.]

[Wow, that voice is a blast from the past. With the biggest grin he can muster, he saunters over to have a look. Oh isn't Ja'far precious at this age?]

I don't know yet, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

You gonna keep running your mouth off about it or are you gonna shut up and go find food? I have other stuff I could be doing, you know.

[Ja'far looks incredibly unimpressed. Food is something you stick some poison in to build up your immunities, eat as fast as possible, then try to keep down because, you know, poison. He's not particularly interested in understanding people or changing the world or whatever, if that's indeed something you can do by eating. It's just as likely that Sinbad is talking out of his ass.]

[Ja'far's eyes narrow. This guy looks an awful lot like Sinbad, but he's way too, well, old. His dad, maybe? If there was a dossier on him, he hadn't bothered to read it before the mission, since he was just going to kill him anyway. He could have three dads for all he knows.]

[A - On the ship, scenario 1]

I like my lamb medium rare, with only a light drizzle of olive oil and rosemary. Smother it in that oil and I will make sure it's the last blunder you make; I want it roasted, not fried. Make sure that the vegetables compliment the dish. They should be fresh, harvested no less than two days ago.

[Narcissa spoke while she arranged her utensils properly. Oh, were you not her cook? You can't expect her to cook for herself.]


[B - Arrival]

[Narcissa can be seen within close proximity of someone, her wand in her raised hand, pointing straight into their neck. It was clearly an aggressive stance. If that wasn't enough to know that she was not happy with her circumstances, she also had a frown on her face and narrowed eyes.]

You will tell me why I can not return home, and you will not give me this rubbish of finding a ruby first.

[She dug her wand a bit further into the person's neck.]

And after all is settled the way it should be, you can expect a thorough investigation on the lot of you.

[Perhaps it's time to step in? Or maybe you're the poor victim of Narcissa's displeasure.]


[C - On the ship, scenario 2]

[Narcissa loathed this time on the ship. The constant salt air was far too harsh on both her skin and her hair. Of course it provided a natural exfoliant, but it was too much. It only proved to dry her out. Any products she obtained could only do so much. The quality was very poor, so she attempted to change them to make them better.

It wasn't like she had anyone to test it on, so in the enclosure of her room, she begrudgingly tried it on herself. The hopefully better shampoo was a very basic shampoo mixed with various herbs and oils. She attempted it on the end of a lock of hair first but when it started to tint her beautiful blond hair green, she quickly rinsed it off with the small basin of water next to her.]

No, no, come out.

[She demanded the dye, not knowing someone else probably heard her too.]

I can roast it, but I'm don't really know how to do the rest of what you want.

Then you should find out before supper time, shouldn't you? There is just under two hours until then. It should be more than enough time to get it right.

[... Yeah, Narcissa had no sense for how long it took to prepare something like this.]

I don't know that I can find out in two hours. I don't even know where to ask. Why don't I just roast your lamb and vegetables together? They'll taste great skewered!
