Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

It's not like the dungeon asked me where I wanted to go. We're not in Parthevia anymore though. Can't be that far away. Let's ask around. Don't you want to see what this place is like?

[This is a new town. Or country even. He hasn't traveled the world and Sinbad can't help but be a little excited.]

[Ja'far crosses his arms and tosses his head to get the pale, shaggy hair out of his eyes.]

Hmph. Suit yourself.

[This can probably be translated to "you have a point and it's probably a good idea" if one speaks Ja'far.]

[He grins easily.]

Come on, let's see if we can get something to eat first. Aren't you hungry? Maybe they have some kind of strange food in this land!

[under_the_wire]

If it's strange, I don't want to eat it.

[His eyes dart around the square, taking the place in. People seem to be ignoring them for the most part, which is strange considering the situation. Sinbad doesn't seem to mind, though, but he already knows Sinbad is an idiot. An interesting idiot, but an idiot nonetheless. And now he wants to go find strange food to eat. Idiot idiot idiot. If you do something like that, it could upset your stomach and throw off the rest of the mission.]

If it's strange it's important to eat it. Don't you know that's how we're going to experience the world?

Everywhere you go there are new kinds of people who eat new things, believe different things. Don't you think that's amazing? We need to understand strange people and strange places in order to change the world!

[Ja'far didn't ask, but Sinbad is more than happy to give him a speech all the same.]

You gonna keep running your mouth off about it or are you gonna shut up and go find food? I have other stuff I could be doing, you know.

[Ja'far looks incredibly unimpressed. Food is something you stick some poison in to build up your immunities, eat as fast as possible, then try to keep down because, you know, poison. He's not particularly interested in understanding people or changing the world or whatever, if that's indeed something you can do by eating. It's just as likely that Sinbad is talking out of his ass.]

Come on, let's go find something weird to eat! Maybe if we're lucky will find some monsters or something, or better yet, the sea. We can travel all over the place and sooner or later we'll make it back. Don't you want to explore a little? It'll be fun!

[He starts walking, but really, best of luck getting him to shut up Ja'far.]

[under_the_wire]

[Ja'far follows like the world's most irate duckling. He's not opposed to finding something to eat, but if weird food is Sinbad's idea of mind-blowing adventure, it looks like he's going to have to kill him sooner rather than later.]

Tch. The sea is RIGHT OVER THERE. Can't you smell it?

[He gestures irritably towards the harbor. He's got his face bandaged up and even he can tell their in a port town.]

[The food is just the tip of the iceburg. He tuns and gives Ja'far a bright smile.]

Great! Then we can get a boat after we eat and go and explore somewhere new!

[Sinbad is choosing to be oblivious to Ja'far's anger.]

[Ja'far makes a disinterested little noise and continues following at Sinbad's heels. Even he's not really sure why he's putting up with this and just going along with whatever Sinbad comes up with. You just kind of get dragged into the guy's orbit and there's no escaping once you've decided to put up with him and his bullshit.]

[Sinbad would be offended! It is not bullshit! It's just pretty words and ideals he fully intends to follow through on, and now he has an adorable little assassin at his disposal.]

Come on, let's try this place!

[He suddenly reaches out to try and grab Ja'far's wrist, to pull him into the nearest bar they had almost passed. On a whim.]

[Ja'far snatches his wrist away before Sinbad can grab it and is about to snap at him again when he sees where the other boy has decided to eat.]

Hmmm? A bar?

[It's not like anyone can see, but he's smirking behind all those bandages. Why not a bar? Maybe they could even get some booze. That'd be kind of grown up and awesome.]

Wait, do they have food there?

Probably they do! Let's check it out.

[He pushes the door open and walks inside like he owns the place. Sinbad isn't going to stop Ja'far from drinking if he wants, after all, they're very important, aren't they?]

[under_the_wire]

[Ja'far peeks around the edge of the door before following. Checking for enemies, making sure it's safe, that sort of thing. Apparently Sinbad's too dumb to think about things like that. They're in unfamiliar territory, after all. You can't just go walking into strange buildings.]

Order booze. I wanna drink something.

[If he drinks it quickly, it should be okay.]

[Sinbad doesn't have to think about that, if there was danger, somehow he'd know.]

Sure. [He shrugs at Ja'far.]

What do you want to drink?

[under_the_wire]

[Ja'far pauses and just stares at him for a few seconds. What does he want to drink? How is he supposed to know? It's not like he's ever had alcohol before.]

How much money do you have? Get whatever's most expensive.

[Sounds like a plan.]

Okay, sure!

[Seems as good a plan as any. He walks up to the bartender and orders, not just a bottle of rum but two orders of stew, figuring Ja'far needs to eat something. If not, maybe he can save it for later. He pays and then comes back to Ja'far.]

Let's grab a table, shouldn't be too long.

[under_the_wire]

[A table is easy enough to find, but it's clearly designed for adult patrons. Ja'far's not so short that he can't reach the table, but definitely short enough that he ends up having to sit on his knees to be able comfortably reach his food when it arrives. The next problem is that he has to pull down his bandages if he wants to shovel stew in his face. It kind of ruins his assassin-ly image when looks like any other freckly little kid.

He's also not exactly a master of conversation, so he just fixes Sinbad with his usual flat, vaguely threatening stare.]
