Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for

high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

May also want to see if you can invest in some sort of magical weapon, or something to fend off magic. A gun and a combat knife won't get you far against someone who can throw a sun at you.

[Aka Ikki's captain. Actually a gun and a combat knife hardly even works against Ikki himself, and there are far worse people around this world.]

Nowi was doing her patrols, giggling and in general being pleased with herself. It's so awesome being a captain. She blinks as she hears the humming and goes to walk up behind him.

"What'cha singing?" She spoke quite loudly in an effort to grab his attention. Peeeeeeeeeer. "What'cha doin? Is it something fun?"

[If you could see Leon, he's about close to face-palming here, completely]

Right... I have the first clue about magic. Any suggestions, Mr...?

[Oh hey, he doesn't know your name]

At least Dougen seemed very friendly, and Leon actually knelt to look the fish over. He knew just enough to at least not eat anything that would kill him, and given the right amount of equipment, could make something edible.

He looked up at the comment, though, and smiled. "It's a pearl. For some reason, clams sometimes have them. But it definitely isn't edible."

For some reason, Leon's first thought was "Oh, God, Ashlee," before he realized the voice was all wrong, and carefully glanced up to... find he was definitely being stared at.

"...It's called Renegade. And no, it's not fun, I'm just making sure my weapon is clean and kept up."

That thought wouldn't stray so far from the truth. Nowi's ears twitches in happiness when he finally acknowledges her presence.

"Teach me it! Pretty please, Leon. Ahhhh your weapon. Buuuuuuuu." She can't remember what's it called or what it does exactly. "It looks complicated."

A brief pause as she thinks. "But I will protect you! You wouldn't need to use it whateveritis with me around!" She will just eat anyone that tries.

"Hm...Well, I don't have much use for it. Should I throw it over the side? I doubt I can just use it as a cannonball."

Phoenix Ikki. And I don't really have any suggestions other than ask the store if there's anything generic enough. A lot of us have some type of magic or power that would cause you trouble if we become enemies, but they are too varied and different to make it easy to just pick something and be well protected.

[It's not a threat, of course. Ikki has no interest or intention of making enemies with this guy, but no one knows the future and if for whatever reason Ace makes enemies with this guy's crew or the guy himself... Ikki will fight. Warning him and suggesting him to find ways to protect himself is as much kindness as Ikki will spare about this based on their shared circumstances of being trapped here.]

Though maybe you will be able to get something if you focus on something that can protect you from a physical attack and something for mental attacks.

[He'd like to come up with a witty retort, but he can't find one]

I suppose I'll look around, then. Thank you. [A pause] My name is Leon if it's of any interest to you. Leon S. Kennedy.

"Hold onto it." Leon suggested, randomly sorting fish for no obvious reason, other than it was something to do. "A lot of people might find it valuable, or worth trading for."

"Gun." He supplies, trying quite hard not to find her annoying, before tilting his head. "Teach you the song, or how to clean the gun?" Because really, Nowi's words all just ran together, and although he was fairly sure she meant the gun...

"Well, I can usually find food for myself, and I don't see much point in having an indoor lair. I can't imagine what I'd really want from anyone."

[Ikki didn't ask, not because of lack of interest but because... He honestly forgets. Several months here and he still isn't really into social interaction. Most of his conversations back home were with people he was about to beat and usually they liked to announce their names by themselves so asking has never been something he had to do.]

Leon...

[There's a soft sound almost like an amused laugh, not at the name but at what it evokes. It's one of those chains that end with him remembering his world, what's not there anymore, what's left... And how he's not there to make sure that those things stay where they are.]

I don't suppose you would be American, huh?

"Gun." Strange word for her before nodding her head. "The song of course. I don't need to use it when I have my shiny stones." A thoughtful pause. "But I should learn your gun too as well.... If I am to be a better captain huh?"

How she managed to get a crew will always be a mystery.

So? Wouldn't it be fun to learn together then?! You can be my second crew member as you seem to be a lot of fun!

[It is! Just think about it!]

[And yay! You are getting hugs now!] That's good! It would be saddening if my own daughter didn't trust me....

Those words made Leon smile, almost laugh. It had been a while since he'd met anyone who didn't have some plot going, or some want that they were willing to trade for. Even Claire, as much as he loved her, was constantly trying to find Chris, who didn't seem capable of staying still for long.

"Well, hold onto it as a gift then. Or for sometime where it's needed and you didn't at all expect it to be."

[The laugh is a bit strange, but Leon ignores it; it doesn't seem like he's being laughed at, after all]

I would. You from America?

The last thing he wanted was for her to learn to use a gun, so he deferred as politely as he could, "Perhaps if I can get more bullets. Otherwise, I should hold onto the ones I have.

"As for the song..." He tilted his head, trying to remember it all, before singing rather off-key, and only managing the first verse or so, before chuckling. "That's all I can remember of it."

No, from Japan. It's just that with so many people from other worlds around here, even if a name seems to come from one country they may have never heard of said country before. It's always kind of nice to know that someone comes from a world I can imagine easily.

[A Abruptly a person climbs up out of someone's shadow. Yours? Another passerby's? He pays no attention to the shadow's owner and huddles into the shade of his parasol.] Damn it, seal's still working. This is NOT FAIR. I'm not even on Earth anymore.

Not. Fair.

[B It's noon and none of the shadows on the ship are big enough for Shadows' taste. He's currently hanging out at the bow, trying not to step out of the small amount of shade from his parasol. He'd just go below decks, but some idiot had decided the SHADOW-MAN needed to take his shift as the lookout at NOON. He's not climbing up to the crow's nest though. He'll just stay right here, coming up with a creative way to tell the captain off without getting tossed off the ship.]

I suppose it would be. Still weird to think of alternate worlds and completely different worlds.

Come on, let's go find something weird to eat! Maybe if we're lucky will find some monsters or something, or better yet, the sea. We can travel all over the place and sooner or later we'll make it back. Don't you want to explore a little? It'll be fun!

[He starts walking, but really, best of luck getting him to shut up Ja'far.]

[He is taken aback, his jaw dropping.]

No no no. I'm not old! Not at all! Don't call me old!

You are old, though. What are you, 40? 50?

[When you're 10, the world is kind of divided into "younger kids," "kids my age," "older kids" and "old people" and this guy is firmly in the last category.]
